About the host
Your host
We live in England in the East Midlands and have visited Portugal for many years. When visiting the Algarve it was mainly to Lagos with our Portuguese friends in the early years. It was a mere fishing village with the sardines being barbequed in the streets. We all stayed in an apartment overlooking the sea. The children loved Mia Praia beach with it's wonderful sandy beach. Lagos and Tavira have maintained much of their rich heritage and culture despite the pressures of tourism. We had never visited the East side until about eight years ago.We were staying at the Vila Gale Hotel when we first saw the apartments being built from our hotel window. We fell in love with Tavira as well and all the family have been visiting both apartments.

Why they chose this property
We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the tranquillity and unspoilt charm and the abundance of history which is evident. There is so much to do and see whether it is walking, visiting the castle and the many beautiful churches or just relaxing in the cafes and restaurants by the river. An ice cream in the beautiful shady gardens where the locals meet is often a relief.
Many craft and cultural events are held all the year round with celebrities visiting from all over the world. Concerts are held in the churches as well especially in the winter time.
The ferry boat by the river side takes you to the fantastic beach, cafes, and restaurants.This is where you can spend the whole day, the children love it especially the boat ride.
It is a lovely town not spoilt by over development.

What makes this property unique
The queen sized bed in Tavira, especially in the hot weather, we havn't enough room at home.
Both of our apartments are in the centre of town and everything you need is only a short walk away, the big fish and vegetable market, the super market and many small shops for your unexpected needs. Most of the cafes and restaurants are all within walking distance, some very close.You can do without a car, if you want to travel a little further the buses and trains offer a good service. The taxi rank is close.
