Nestled in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife, in the hamlet of Chance Inn, the award winning Bag End Cottage offers luxury self-catering holiday accommodation in the main part of a stylish, contemporary, timber-clad residence set in an idyllic rural setting.

Opened in 2009 and awarded a Visit Scotland 4 Star rating, Bag End comfortably sleeps up to six/seven guests in an idyllic rural setting in North East Fife.

With landscaped gardens, children’s play area, climbing frames, outdoor dining patio, giant chess board, open country views, orchard, barbecue and private parking, there is room for everyone.

Ideally located in the heart of Fife, close to the Tay and Forth road bridges, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee and the East Neuk. Less than ten minutes’ walk from the recently restored Hill of Tarvit Hickory Golf Course and within a short drive of Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and the Old Course in St Andrews.

As one of Scotland top tourist destinations, The Kingdom of Fife is a joy at every turn.

About Mark Richardson

Hello. We are a young family that built our own bespoke home a few years ago. We are very happy to now offer accommodation for holidaymakers from around the world. Only having one property, we aim and we hope we achieve a very high level of service to our guests.

We have been open since 2009 and now have over 85 x 5 Star Trip Advisor reviews.

We have won TripAdvisor’s "Top Vacation Rental in the StAndrews Area" three times 2011, 2012 and now 2013...

And we have had guests come back up to seven times in the last 4 years, so i assume we are doing something right!

Why Mark Richardson chose Cupar

The location of Bag End is idyllic. It is in the heart of the beautiful Kingdom of Fife surrounded by rolling countryside, lovely towns and villages and has access to all that this historic and affluent area has to offer.

We are quietly tucked away but we are within striking distance of all of fife and cities such as Edinburgh which is only and hour away by either car or train.

I (Mark) am originally from beautiful "Bronte" country in Yorkshire but i have lived in Fife now for nearly 20 years and love it very much. My wife Joyce is a Scottish lass from Sterling and our daughter Ruby is Scottish through and through.

What makes this house unique

As Bag End was built by Mark it is distinctly bespoke in its design. It has very individual rooms; heated porcelain floors, solid Cherry staircase and all decorated and finished off with a selection of 20th century items from our own private collection.

Notes on accommodation: Sound-proofed double-glazing throughout. Full central heating with underfloor heating on the ground floor, radiators on the upper floor, and independent heating controls in each room. Fitted carpets in bedrooms, stairs and upper hallway. Dimmable lighting in lounge, dining room and all bedrooms. Free Wi-Fi and Freeview televisions in all bedrooms. Outside: Bag End is set within its own grounds with landscaped gardens to front and rear. There is a large play area to play football, with climbing frame, swings slide etc. To the rear is a patio area with outdoor barbecue, eight-seater picnic table, giant outdoor chess board, and open views of the fife countryside where a variety of wildlife can be seen throughout the year. There is also ample private off-road parking next to the house. Utility Room: Washer Dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided plus extra duvets, blankets, various pillows etc The cottage is cleaned after every guest and is very well maintained. Other: Dining Room Lovely separate breakfast / dining room with seating for six guests. A large library of tourist and local information is provided in this room, making it a great place for planning your week’s activities.

Great get-away

Beautiful house hidden away near Cupar. We spent a lovely three days here with our small baby discovering the east coast and sampling local fayre. The house is lovey and warm and decorated beautifully. Its spacious and caters to a family needs (kitchen full of crockery etc and cupboard full of toys!) The owners were very nice and next door if you need them. We would visit again, without a doubt.

A great find!

We were looking for a very last minute break and came upon Bag End at a very reasonable price. Booked to stay here for 3 nights and so glad we did. What a lovely, spacious, clean and modern house. We were met by Mark who was so friendly to us and our wee girl and he took the time to explain how everything worked. The house had all the facilities we needed as well as a great play area behind the house for kids. The bedrooms were a good size, there was a separate dining room and the bathroom was lovely. All in all I would really recommend Bag End to anyone looking to get away for some peace and quiet while still within short driving distance of lots of places to go and things to do.

lovely and relaxing

We are a family of five who had a 3 night stay here.cottage is beautiful with lovely fresh bedding and towels and fully equipped kitchen.Garden with oversized chess set which was a great hit with teenagers.15 minute drive into St Andrew's and handy for Crail,Anstruther,Pittenweem and Elie. We visited the secret bunker which was very interesting.Would definitely recommend The Kingarroch Inn for a meal which is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage.

Very nice, well kept property. Mark is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.

Master bedroom gets too warm due to only having one very small window. Brilliant location close enough to landmarks & citys.

We have left a pole to open the roof window in the past, but guests have mistakenly left it open during the rain, so we had to remove it. There are then 100s of historical, sporting, religious, wildlife, architectural and royal places to visit within an hour of Bag End as Fife was and remains a very historic and affluent area of Scotland.

Further Details:

Just a short walk from Bag End is the Kingarroch Inn which has been totally rebuilt following a major fire in 2014. This offers very good restaurant food and uses much of the locally produced food that Fife is famous for.

In general, Fife abounds with exceptional food from, fruit, venison, wines, cheeses, beef, etc. Due to this we have a wide selection of very good eating places and restaurants to suit all budgets. There is a beautiful village 1 mile from Bag End with two very good pubs, a well stocked Spar, two cafes and a superb butcher. Cupar has two supermarkets and many of the usual high street shops.

St Andrews is a delight as it is full of bespoke individual shops offering a wide variety of high quality food and other goods. As it is the home of Golf, an ancient monastic city and home to the oldest university in Scotland, it is also a very welcoming and interesting place to visit and live.

Overall Fife has 100s of interesting places to visit due to its historic part in Scotland’s past, its position as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Scotland and its vibrant and mixed population which give it a genuinely interesting spark.

A non refundable 25% deposit is payable to secure a booking and must be either preceded by an on-line booking request or accompanied by a completed booking form.   • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
