Nestled in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife, in the hamlet of Chance Inn, the award winning Bag End Cottage offers luxury self-catering holiday accommodation in the main part of a stylish, contemporary, timber-clad residence set in an idyllic rural setting.

Opened in 2009 and awarded a Visit Scotland 4 Star rating, Bag End comfortably sleeps up to six guests in an idyllic rural setting in North East Fife.

With landscaped gardens, children’s play area, climbing frames, outdoor dining patio, giant chess board, open country views, orchard, barbecue and private parking, there is room for everyone.

Ideally located in the heart of Fife, close to the Tay and Forth road bridges, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee and the East Neuk. Less than ten minutes’ walk from the recently restored Hill of Tarvit Hickory Golf Course and within a short drive of Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and the Old Course in St Andrews.

As one of Scotland top tourist destinations, The Kingdom of Fife is a joy at every turn.

About Mark Richardson

Hello. We are a young family that built our own bespoke home a few years ago. We are very happy to now offer accommodation for holidaymakers from around the world. Only having one property, we aim and we hope we achieve a very high level of service to our guests.

We have been open since 2009 and now have over 85 x 5 Star Trip Advisor reviews.

We have won TripAdvisor’s "Top Vacation Rental in the StAndrews Area" three times 2011, 2012 and now 2013...

And we have had guests come back up to seven times in the last 4 years, so i assume we are doing something right!

Why Mark Richardson chose Fife & St Andrews

The location of Bag End is idyllic. It is in the heart of the beautiful Kingdom of Fife surrounded by rolling countryside, lovely towns and villages and has access to all that this historic and affluent area has to offer.

We are quietly tucked away but we are within striking distance of all of fife and cities such as Edinburgh which is only and hour away by either car or train.

I (Mark) am originally from beautiful "Bronte" country in Yorkshire but i have lived in Fife now for nearly 20 years and love it very much. My wife Joyce is a Scottish lass from Sterling and our daughter Ruby is Scottish through and through.

What makes this house unique

As Bag End was built by Mark it is distinctly bespoke in its design. It has very individual rooms; heated porcelain floors, solid Cherry staircase and all decorated and finished off with a selection of 20th century items from our own private collection.

Excellent accommodation

Excellent holiday rental. Our second visit with our three children .Our first visit was over four years ago and the decor and furnishings were still as fresh and well kept as on our first stay .

Great family rental and would also be suitable for couples .Three good sized bedrooms with ample storage and hanging space . Bright and modern kitchen ,cloakroom and bathroom . Plenty of good sized towels for the whole

family .

Kitchen is really well equipped and there is a separate dining room .Outside there is a patio and seating area and a separate fully enclosed play area with swings and climbing frame .

It is about 10/15 minutes drive from a large supermarket . Lots to do in nearby Cupar and St Andrews .

Absolutely beautiful home with everything you could need

We had a wonderful stay at Bag End, it's a beautiful home with everything you need. 3 stunning bedrooms with plenty of space for travel cots, great living areas and a well equipped kitchen.

The garden was fab for our kids too.

The location of the cottage is ideal for touring all over fife.

We had a fabulous stay & will be back!

Beautiful house - highly recommended

We are a family group of 6 adults and 2 children who thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bag End for a long weekend in October. The house is beautifully laid out, very clean, well equipped and lovely and warm. Beautiful countryside and a wonderful outdoor play area for the children. We were made very welcome.... thank you for the wine and cake Mark! Highly recommended.

Fantastic accommodation

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our wedding and it was fantastic. We stay only half an hour away but wanted just to get off our door step and it felt like we were a million miles away. Everything you could ask for and more. The cottage is stunningly beautiful and wished we could have stayed longer.

The owner was great and has thought about absolutely every need.

Would 100% recommend staying here and would love to stay again.

Excellent property with everything you need

We stayed here ( 4 adults and 2 one year olds) for a short break and it was just great. The cottage is modern and well laid out. The owners provide pretty much everything you could need and the friendly owners were always on hand to help if needed. They even put up stair gates which was great for inquisitive little ones. A built in BBQ is found out the back in the large patio area accessed from the kitchen. There is even a giant chess board outside. The patio was ideal for the little ones to crawl about on. There is also a large play area which older kids would love. I would highly recommend this place. I was worried about it being too secluded but we spent most days in nearby St Andrews which was easily accessible while the husbands made the most of the nearby golf courses! There is loads to do in the area to keep you busy but you'd be just as happy staying in the cottage too.

There is also ample private off-road parking next to the house. Utility Room: Washer Dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided plus extra duvets, blankets, various pillows etc The cottage is cleaned after every guest and is very well maintained. Other: Dining Room Lovely separate breakfast / dining room with seating for six guests. A large library of tourist and local information is provided in this room, making it a great place for planning your week’s activities.
