With hand painted vintage furniture, quality fixtures and fittings, original painted floorboards, beamed ceilings, stone floors and converted cellar, this cottage is a truly superb place to stay. The cottage sleeps 6 with a z-bed and cot available on request. Luxury Egyptian cotton linen and towels are provided. (not provided for z-bed or cot). The cottage is non-smoking, no pets and has no steps to its access. Free view TV and free WiFi.

About the Owner
'The Hideaway' is owned by Victoria & David Carter. We bought the holiday cottage because of our love of Whitby and the surrounding area. We have three young children who all love visiting Whitby, enjoy the beaches and the coastal walks.
Living less than an hour away we are very familiar with the area so if you have any questions we are more than happy to help.

The house was stylish and the location was incredibly central. We had a lovely time but unfortunately our 4 year old son was ill during our stay but as it was so central we could take turns looking after him and taking the other children out . Whitby is a lovely seaside town that I will definitely be visiting again and has a real independent feel rather than a tacky feel. I loved the history that surrounds the place and the visit to The Abbey up the 199 steps is definitely a highlight as is the Captain Cook museum and the funny (scary) Dracula Experience. I love Whitby and this house was the icing on the cake.
Attention to detail throughout
From the moment we arrived at the hideaway it was clear that the owners took great pride in this beautiful property.
Outside the front door we found a pumpkin and broomstick and on entering found tasteful Halloween decor throughout. This created much excitement for my 7 year old daughter who immediately set off to explore the well equipped play room.
The cottage itself was beautifully decorated with everything we could need available.
Although small, the kitchen was extremely functional. There was even a slow cooker available which we made use of. The lounge was very relaxing with a large corner sofa and contained a welcome pack with a list of useful contact numbers.
The large bathroom on the first floor was stunning and I was particularly impressed with the cupboard space in the three bedrooms. Quite unusual for a Whitby cottage.
The hideaway is off one of the busiest streets in the town however there was no noise from the hustle and bustle despite staying at one of the most vibrant times of the year. It was an ideal location for us especially my partner who has limited mobility, as we could pop in for rests and were close to some of the best pubs and restaurants.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone considering a visit to Whitby. A thoroughly enjoyful, relaxing and stress free break.
Beautiful cottage in a perfect location!
This fabulous cottage is perfectly situated to explore the amazing town on Whitby! The owners have thought of everything you might need to make this stay comfortable and envoyable! The fixtures and fittings within the cottage are to an extremely high standard and the bathroom is absolutely stunning! We stayed for 6 nights with our two boys and literally didn't want to come home! We can't wait to visit again!!!
A heavenly hideway
We stayed for one week (2 adults/3 teenagers) and thoroughly recommend The Hideaway. All prior arrangements were carried out by the owners swiftly and helpfully.
The property was extremely clean with lovely decor which rally captured the seaside location.
The owners really have thought of everything with a well-equipped kitchen (including some complimentaries like tea/coffee/sugar) and excellent amenities. The property is really well-kitted out, with t.v. screens in all main rooms; WiFi; even multiple hairdriers!
The bedrooms were lovely, with gorgeous bed-linen for a really comfortable and luxurious sleep.
The Hideaway's location really is in the centre of things in Whitby, off a charming alley (Sandgate) full of lovely and interesting shops and close to everything that matters in Whitby. Make sure you check out Magpie Cafe; the moody and special Abbey (try it at night, wonderful!) and the beaches and "bights" of the town.
If you come by car, long-stay parking can be easily arranged through a permit obtained at the Tourist Information office and is cheaper and removed the worry - the permit also covers other car-parks in e.g. Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough - superb!
Other recommendations Falling Foss tea-house (wow!) and Beck Hole's pub (great sandwiches).
This property is excellent and I have high praise for the owners for creating a great and very comfortable base for one to explore Whitby and the surrounding area.
Hiedaway at Whitby
We stayed there for a week - 2 adults and 3 teenage girls. My partner and I wanted to move in and the girls loved the cottage and Whitby itself. It's spread over 5 floors, so maybe those wit mobility issues would find it difficult, but otherwise it's wonderful. Very tastefully decorated, quirky but fun layout (including the bar in the basement). Most of the furniture and accessories in the house looked new. It's centrally located too, so ideal as a base.

The location is second to none with eveything from pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops and Market, literally on your door step and with the beach only a stones throw away! Only 2 minutes walk to the nearest sandy beach.
Nearest Airports are Durham Tees Valley, Leeds Bradford and Humberside. Travel to Whitby Train Station via various routes or access by car.
In the heart of Whitby old town, with its cobbled streets, picturesque houses, sandy blue flag beach, magnificent stretches of coast, spectacular cliffs and pretty bays. Only a short drive away are the North Yorkshire Moors where there are a number of delightful villages to explore, or head along the coast to take in beautiful coastal villages such as Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay, probably one of the most popular, charming and picturesque fishing villages in the country.
Whitby is a shoppers’ paradise with an array of unique shops offering local crafts, famous Whitby Jet jewellery, maritime memorabilia and antiques as well as modern chainstores.
When it comes to food Whitby has it all, Award winning seafood restaurants, continental delights, traditional sea-shanty inns preparing locally cooked produce and olde worlde English tea rooms serving freshly baked pastries and Yorkshire teas.
There are numerous banks and nearest supermarket is 5 minute walk away.

A deposit of £200 is payable with the booking, and is non-refundable. The balance is due eight weeks prior to the date of arrival. Full payment is payable on all holidays booked within 8 weeks of commencement.
In the event of cancellation we will endeavour to re-let the property and refund the balance. A refund cannot be given if we fail to re-let the property. The £200 deposit is non-refundable under any circumstances.
A £100 deposit will be taken to cover damages or excess cleaning.
Change over day is a Friday and bookings are taken for a minimum of 5 nights. If you do have a request to start your holiday on a different day please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you. Arrival after 3.30pm and vacate property by 10am.

We reserve the right to change tariffs during the year for special offers and discount periods. Tariffs are agreed and contracted for on booking and are not subject to change if reduced at a later date.

- Notes on accommodation: PLEASE NOTE The cellar of the property is the original old cellar so as expected has very low ceiling in some areas. There are ‘mind your head’ signs but please take care when entering and down in the cellar of the standing height. PARKING Although parking is not permitted in the street, loading and unloading is allowed at certain times of the day. Charged public parking is approximately 200yds away, although there are various streets available to park for free a little walk away. Outside: The cottage has a beautiful private, furnished courtyard ideal for dining outside or relaxing on those long summer nights. Utility Room: Located in the cellar is a cupboard filled with all your laundry and cleaning needs including iron, ironing board, clothes airer, hoover, mop and bucket. There is a retractable washing line outside in the courtyard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Luxury Egyptian Cotton Bedlinen and towels are provided for all beds except for the z-bed and cot. Cleaning and bedding change is weekly. Other: Situated in the cellar is a childrens playroom equipped with books, games and toys. TV with free view and DVD player. There is also a 'Cellar Bar' with low beamed ceiling and stone walls.
