Farmhouse in La Chapelle Faucher, Dordogne, France - Very private and peaceful location, with stunning views from the top of the valley

Maison St George is a traditionally renovated 400-year-old farmhouse, set in a tranquil hamlet. Inside you will find a large lounge, with three sofas, large TV with English satellite, DVD player, etc. Kitchen/diner, with range cooker and lovely old English dressers and furniture. There is a large family bathroom with shower, plus an additional shower-room and a second downstairs toilet. There are two tradional open-thread staircases in the property, one leading to the twin bedroom above the bathroom wing, the other leading to the the two upstairs doble bedrooms, separated by a large upstairs landing area with further wardrobe and dressing table. Beds will be made ready for your arrival, with towels provided.

Quaint, quiet, relaxing

St Georges is at the end of a long yet very quiet single track road & is accordingly in a very peaceful setting. The house itself is lovely & well described in the advert. It was clean & tidy on arrival & easy to keep that way. The 3rd bedroom isn't for the tallest of folk, but then again you do sleep lying down.

The general location suited me well, with plenty of places worth visiting within easy driving distance. The local village, St Pierre de Cole, has a bakers & a decent wee supermarket, but you need to go to Brantome (which you will anyway, again & again) for meat. The nearest restaurant's in St Pierre & is a must in terms of both food & value. The Grotte de Villars is also close & an absolute must - just stunning!

I would both recommend St Georges & go back myself.

Nearest airport: Perigueux. Also airports at Bergerac, Limoges & Bordeaux.

Nearest railway: Thiviers


The towns of Brantome and Thiviers are approximately eight miles away.

St Pierre de Cole is the nearest village with a good restaurant/bar, boulangerie, post office and supermache - this is approximately two miles away.

La Chapelle Faucher is approximately two miles away, with a post office, chateau and bar.

Further Details:

Brantome has a lovely Friday market, also canoeing, tennis, fishing, restaurants, banks, shops and abbey. Brantome is an ancient town, which is moated by the River Dronne.

Thiviers has a large market on Saturdays which is noted for its foie gras, truffles and cep mushrooms.

Doorway out from living room to bathroom area and open-tread staircase to bedroom three. Lovely views over the valley. Outside: Private (unheated) pool. Dimensions of pool (with alarm): 16x8 feet (4.85x2.45 metres). There is a courtyard with outside seating and table, etc, between the house and the property's private barn. Meadow at back of barn and woodland, all within our boundary. There are ponies in our neighbours' field, separated from us by a low-voltage electric fence - which is signed. Children should be accompanied outside at all times. Utility Room: Washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned every changeover, with all beds made to suit numbers arriving and towels included. Other: Large upstairs landing with wardrobe and dressing table.
