2 double bed cottage, estuary views, twin gardens, delightfully peaceful location; only 5mins to the village and 10 mins to the beach.

“Smugglers Blues” is a traditional granite block built eighteenth century former fisherman's cottage situated in the quiet heart of the famous, picturesque, and vibrant fishing village of Fowey; one of the most renowned and beautiful riverside villages in all Cornwall. Ideally situated on Rose Hill, it gives quick access; just 4/5 minutes’ walk; to the bustling village, yet is set back enough to maintain a quiet and tranquil setting for those moments of relaxation and rest which is an essential part of any holiday.

The property itself offers accommodation for up to six people through 2 bedrooms and a double sofa bed if required. There are two outside areas with a high walled, private courtyard garden for relaxing afternoons in the sun, BBQ’s and the essential evening sundowners. Through the nature of the aspect of the cottage, the rear garden has the benefit of sun all day round, from the moment the sun comes up over the estuary until the sun sets over Fowey Hill; at which point, it should be time to hit the village and sample the nightlife.

The village offers everything you could want; a wide and varied selection of shops from clothing, arts and craft, food/wine, and souvenirs; an extensive selection of pubs, bistros, and restaurants offering standard pub fayre all the way up to award winning fine cuisine. (word of warning; from experience the walk back up the hill can be a tad longer than the 4/5 minute walk down; not least depending on how much nightlife you sample ?)

The charming quayside offers a variety of ferry rides; including the five minute ride over to Polruan, fishing cruises, and self-drive motor boat hire… as well the opportunity to try your hand at crabbing and shrimping off the harbour wall. The beautiful Readymoney beach is a sight inspiring 10 minute walk from the village centre taking in some of the fantastic harbour and sea views that Fowey offers.

And for those not so great days; which our great country does “occasionally” experience, there is a great selection of books and board games. For the more visual minded, there is an extensive DVD collection; ranging from children’s movies, romantic comedies, action movies, box sets, thrillers, B/W classics, naturally there are a few James Bond’s to be found, and for any rugby fans; well there’s enough to keep you busy for a few days, especially if you’re a Lions fan. For any budding surfers, you have the benefits of some true classics..

I have been visiting Fowey for many years now, and finally decided to use this as a permanent base for family holidays. Given our love of water sports (Fowey has the lot), particularly sailing and kayaking, and the outdoors generally, not to mention good food; especially seafood(check out the Bouillabaisse at Sam's Bistro), it would be difficult to find a better, more “Perfect Place”. This is where we wind down, chill, relax.. whatever you call it these days, and is somewhere we look forward to coming back to, from the moment we leave until the moment we roll back down the hill into the village for that first view of the river and sea.

I have been visiting Fowey for the last 20 years and finally took the plunge to buy this year. From my first visit, I fell for the place, its superb range of shops, pubs, restaurants, walks, and water activities. Over those years I have travelled the length and breadth of Cornwall and can honestly say I have never found anywhere else that had the same vibrancy, variety, coupled with the views, and that wonderful feeling of being close enough to see and feel the ocean, but having the sanctity of harbour.

But perhaps the biggest reason, the biggest driver, was the feeling of relaxation that sweeps over you in those first few hours there.. and that's whether your just casting your eyes out to sea, or sitting enjoying that first, refreshing drink. Come experience it, you wont regret it.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is set over two floors, three if you count the back garden. As noted earlier, the cottage is pet friendly and there is no additional pet surcharge. Once received they are normally replied to within 24 hours. Thank you. Outside: Perfect Place has two lovely outside gardens. The front garden is stone walled and laid to bedding and plants with stone patio. The rear garden which can reached either through the kitchen or a side gate is a courtyard style garden with table and chairs for enjoying breakfast, lunch, BBQ dinner in the evening, or perhaps just a few sundowners before heading out to experience the delights of the various restaurants, pubs, and bistro's. It benefits from a wonderful setting in capturing the sun from the moment it comes up, until the moment it sets high over Fowey hill. There is also an ample storage place for all wet weather gear; wetsuits, muddy boots, kayaks, canoes, dinghy's, raincoats, buggy's.. or anything else that comes to mind. Access is of course lockable. There is also a rotary line in the rear garden in case you need to get any washing done and aired. Utility Room: Washing Machine and Tumble Dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are supplied. All bedding and towels are changed and cleaned after each guest stay and only laid out either the night before or the morning of arrival. Towels, include a bath sheet, bath towel and flannel for all guests. Other: Open plan dinning room has the benefit of a new 8 seater Spanish Oak dinning table, ideal for the those family gatherings (it also includes an extender unit). The room itself has views out the rear of the property and easy access to the kitchen

a lovely stay in a very homely warm cottage.. great location for exploring Fowey and its walks. Amazing selection of dvds which kept us busy on the two rainy days we had. Great outside decked garden and wish we had had the weather to make more use... cant blame the owner for the weather.. and the owner is a gent who adds a really nice personal touch which is lacking with the other "click and book" sites.. we both liked the human interaction and availability.

Family keen on a summer stay so going to book again for the summer. After a small stay, one can see why the property is busy.. bring on the summer and our thanks again to the owner.

Lovely cottage which is very comfortable with a great terrace garden, great location in Fowey just towards the top of town but close to everything, really helpful owner who couldn't do enough and knows Fowey really well so you will feel you have everything you need before you arrive.

Wonderful Cottage, Wonderful Holiday... Great Host

My family and our little dog arrived at the cottage on a lovely sunny day in August to find a super welcome pack a waiting for us (our host allowed us to choose our wines / beers), which after our drive from Scotland was extremely welcome. The children loved the outside decked area and over the ten days we stayed we all made good use of it from sunbathing to games of quoits, and BBQ’s. The cottage was clean, everything in good working order and very comfortable… it did feel like home away from home. It’s in an ideal position for exploring Fowey; which we fell in love with; its many walks, and the local area.

Our host was really first class. He sent us an excellent guide (his own take) on all the local walks, pubs, restaurants, and drives. The in-house guide book to the cottage including tips for guests was very insightful and very amusing. Our host arranged for a mid-week turnover to freshen the place up at no charge and what really impressed was his late night email to warn us of local roadworks and suitable routes around which probably saved us two or three hours.

Quite simply, we all had a wonderful holiday which was complemented by the lovely cottage and a great host with a personal touch for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. We have booked again and cannot wait to enjoy it all again next year.

Lovely, comfortable well equipped cottage.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage, the owner was very helpful providing lots of useful information to help with our stay. The cottage is in a perfect location to enable you to explore Fowey, lovely local walks and pubs - the cottage is well equipped and comfortable and the owner let us bring our dog with us who also had a great stay...all in all we had a very enjoyable week.

Delightful sunny cottage in central Fowey

We had a great stay in this comfortable cottage, close to the town centre. The owner was very helpful and gave us information about the local area. The cottage had everything you would need for a comfortable stay . A very sunny aspect at the back with a new wooden decking. The biggest bonus for us however was the fact the owner agreed to let's us bring our Dogs, I would recommend this property .
