Disappointed - Nice cottage and location but no hot water for whole weekend

  • 2 of 5

This is a very nice cottage with quirky aspects that make a stay more special. The location is beautiful and the views just as good as the pictures advertised. The location is very convenient for visits to the Wye Valley and further afield.

However, upon arriving at the cottage we realized there was an issue with the boiler and we only had 30 minutes of hot water each day. With a group of 10 adults and 4 kids this is obviously not ideal. Contact was made with the landlord to explain but nothing was able to be sorted during the stay. Hopefully this has now been fixed!

As there was no hot water we were unable to use the hot tub as there was no way to clean yourself down other than with a freezing cold shower. This obviously removes the want of the hot tub. The landlord allowed us to leave the cottage an hour late so that we could ensure the house was clean by warming water using the kettles which will obviously take longer.

I understand that things do go wrong and I wouldn’t normally write a negative review as I would hope the landlord recompense its visitors to make good the unfortunate issue. This however was not the case.

The landlord said that non payment for the optional hot tub (which only one person used) and allowed late check out should be enough recompense. I would disagree.

I gave the landlord numerous opportunities to discuss and explain but the communication channels were very one sided.

All in all. Nice cottage spoiled by poor service and communication.

Great Location and Wonderful Gardens

  • 4 of 5

The house was lovely, well furnished and plenty of space for 9 of us. We stayed for a walking weekend, its only an hour from the Brecon Beacons so was a perfect base. It is in the first bit of countryside outside chepstow so getting there is simple. Locally there is plenty of walks and destination pubs for a nice lunch. Our only criticism was the kitchen; although large, it was a bit restrictive on oven space and lacked some utensils for our group size. The gardens were wonderful and allow you to make the most of the sun, loads of space with a lovely patio.
