About Andrew Craggs

Loire Valley Gites is owned by Andrew and Jayne Craggs.

Having had a love affair with the Loire Valley for more than 15 years we decided to purchase our own second home in the Loire Valley. After a year of searching we found Le Bois, a small hamlet on the outskirts of the pretty village of Meigne le Vicomte. Having spent two years renovating the main property we were finally able to create a stylish and luxurious second home for our family to enjoy. As with many renovations the project ran significantly over budget and to assist in the running costs of the property we decided to offer the property to rental guests.

Since 2009 we have welcomed more than 100 guests to our second home and it is now so popular that we have to book our own time in the diary a year in advance!

Andrew Craggs purchased this farmhouse in 2007

Why Andrew Craggs chose Maine-et-Loire

The Loire Valley offers something for everyone and it is this diversity that attracted us to the region in the first place.

The pace of life is so much more relaxed than in the UK and the abundance of fresh produce and the huge range of local wines make this area a gastronomic pleasure to visit and live.

Loire Valley Gites have all the benefits of a quite rural farmstead but is within easy reach of all the main tourist attractions as well as both convenient rail, road and air connections.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We have furnished the property to an exceptionally high standard which make the property stand out from similar gites in the Loire Valley Region.

Our guests are greeted by a fantastic Shaker Style Kitchen with large feature fireplace with a log burning fire. With the complements of the owners you are presented with a welcome basket with some essentials to get your holiday stated.

We have high speed Wi-Fi internet throughout the house and provide a landline telephone (which also receives incoming calls) with free landline calls to many part of the world.

To provide you with even more relaxation guests have the option of choosing a home cooked meal from a range of menu options which are delivered directly to your gite on the day of your choosing.

All you have to do is relax!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Very relaxing and idyllic - Jenny Holgate - East Yorkshire, UK

Loire Valley Gites owners were very helpful and made our holiday experience one to remember. Le Bois is a lovely gite with everything you could want. Two woodburners, in the lounge and kitchen for chilly evenings are a lovely touch. It is situated in very beautiful and peaceful surroundings which makes it the ideal base to relax. We must return.

Relax Relax Relax!! - The Cope Family, Felixstowe, UK

Thats what we wanted and thats what we got . . . such a lovely peaceful location. And to have a holiday home thats as comfortable and spacious as our own was just 1st class. Andy was more than helpful at the booking stage and was ready to answer any questions we had. And the property management team were very attentive. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and we would recommend it to anyone.

Everything that a romantic French farmhouse should be...! - Anna, New York

8 of our family members gathered here for an intimate, countryside vacation and we got just that! The house is beautifully renovated with modern appliances and country-chic decor. We rented the next door cottage (from the same owner) so we could have ample room for our whole group. Owner was incredibly helpful in answering all our questions before the trip and the house contained everything we needed! British TV was a plus. My family enjoyed it so much here, we're already talking about having another reunion here!

Rural setting, peaceful, lovely swimming pool

  • 4 of 5

Le Bois is a large barn conversion with plenty of space inside and out. It has 3 lovely bedrooms and the mattresses are so comfortable! I suffer from a bad back so this was really important and I wasn't disappointed.

Downstairs has a huge lounge and dining area and a great kitchen. All thoughtfully decorated, clean and tidy and well equipped.

Andrew and Jayne are great hosts who helped us with recommendations of where to visit and eat and even very kindly took our dogs for a walk one hot day when we had a long day out without them!

When we visited it was during the heatwave and temperatures got up as high as 38 degrees. The pool was well used that week but we did suffer at nights without any fans inside which I think could be supplied as the upstairs bedrooms did get very hot and humid. Simple mosquito netting at the windows would help too which wasn't supplied but thankfully we took our own so were able to have the windows open and some fresh air without insects coming in.

We loved our stay at Le Bois. We saw lots of wildlife and really felt immersed in nature, and the new heated swimming pool felt very luxurious. Lovely that we could take children and dogs and it all felt very informal and relaxed. It is very rural though so a car is essential to get anywhere. It was far too hot to contemplate walking 3 miles for a baguette and croissants!

I would recommend Le Bois to friends wanting a peaceful escape from busy lives and a very quiet holiday with their doggies and children.

Beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful property! The pool is so nice, lots of loungers and both shade and sun. This is a very convenient location to see the Loire. We had a nice meal at the mushroom cave restaurant near Saumur, and if you are there during a market day, Langeais is also a nice town to have lunch and visit the market. We also recommend La Boufftard in Hommes - this was one of our favourite little restaurants in the area. We would also recommend kayaking along the Loire - very easy to do from Saumur, good for old and young as the river is shallow and slow moving. Le Bois is a large, but private property nestled in the trees amidst the countryside. The restored farmhouse is beautful inside and out - we highly recommend it.

Once again, simply the best!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Le Bois, and once again we had a lovely stay. The gite is wonderful - impeccably restored with amazing oak beams. It's very private, but yet reasonably close to all the Loire valley has to offer. This year the owners added an amazing swimming pool with deck and cabana - you could really go here and have a great holiday without leaving the premises. As with last year, the gite was sparkling clean upon arrival; everything worked well; and the owners provided all the information we needed. We used the grill frequently in this trip and had several fantastic meals al fresco on the veranda. I'm a bit hesitant to post such a good review as I want to be able to get a booking for next year - but I've really not found a nicer place to stay on holiday!

Relaxing, spacious, beautiful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in the county then this is perfect for you. We were after an escape from our busy lives and somewhere that was suitable for children. This was spot on. Lovely pool, views, lots of space, outdoor eating areas etc. Be prepared that amenities are all a short drive, but this suited us fine as dinners out in the evening were not really an option having small children. There aren't many bars/cafés/tavernas close by but there is a super supermarket and so we enjoyed many lovely bbq's. The house is large and it contains all of the usual items one could need as well as WiFi. The pool is just fab and very clean.
