Fabulous family holiday property

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group of 14, ranging in ages from 15 months to 70. The house easily accommodated us all comfortably. The bedrooms were spacious and with plenty bathrooms and toilets. Everything was beautifully prepared; lovely bedlinen, loads of towels and great facilities for washing a cooking. We wanted for nothing, the pool and area around it was brilliant; we spent the majority of our time there, even when we had a day out, we came back to the pool for a dip. The children adored it, are still talking about it and want to go back, some of them have even decided they are going to live in France when they grow up; they were well impressed! The property is very secure and child friendly which was most important for us.

Julie was magnificent and invaluable in helping up plan our week around trips, excursion, events and places to eat. She contributed greatly to the success of our holiday and we are very grateful for every thing she did for us. We found so many lovely old towns, villages, castles and churches to explore, the local restaurant was superb (again very child friendly) and we had a great day out in Begerac which was an easy drive from the house. Jane's customer care was excellent; the minor problems we encountered were dealt with promptly with the help of Julie and to our satisfaction.

The area is stunning, as is L'Ermitage, it is a fabulous property, Jane and her husband have done a great job restoring it, it has the most wonderful 'old France' feel about it. The bikes which were at our disposal were a boon for a the chaps who went to the bakery every morning for our breakfast bread and croissants, which we were able to enjoy outside every day as the weather was so good. We actually ate all of our meals outside. There was plenty seating and tables for both indoor and outdoor dining.

We adore France this being our second family trip, the first one to this area. Should we plan to re-visit the area, we would have no hesitation in returning to L'Ermitage and would recommend it highly, particularly for a family group with children of all ages.

Many thanks from Dorothy and John, and the France holiday gang.

"A truly 5 star experience!"

  • 5 of 5

Country living at its best. The perks of very comfortable enormous bedrooms with bathroom en suite with lovely linen, we enjoyed the Super king size four poster beds and the luxurious experience they offered. Thoughtful extra cosy wool blankets when needed and shower gels and shampoo are provided by request so one less thing to pack in the luggage. The house boasts an amazing swimming pool, acres of village walks by the river nested in gorgeous countryside. A large house where one never feels crowded, and always space to find oneself, whether tinkling on the French Billard's table in the well proportioned games room, or my favourite space in a divine walled courtyard outside the kitchen. L'ermitage is situated in the Dordogne region, the heart of gourmet cooking and wine in France, where one finds oneself exploring the local villages which were charming. It was enchanting to explore the local restaurants if not lured by the cooking at L'ermitage, done in our case by a local french cook, whom we hired which was magnificent. A pleasure to dine in the elegant dining room, or breakfast in the enormous kitchen. We have left feeling completely rested and at total peace during our stay.

A Magical Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Magical!!! Even better in reality. We spent 2 very festive weeks in l'Ermitage for Christmas 2014. On arrival the house was immaculate, beautifully decorated for Christmas complete with a spectacularly decorated Christmas tree!

Our three families (6A & 7 ch) enjoyed this stunning house with luxurious bedrooms and there was tons of space for everyone, (in fact easily room for another family). A well equipped home for large parties with everything you need for dining and entertainment, especially accommodating for children. We enjoyed most of our time spent in the house together around the cosy log fires. We visited the typical French markets locally for fresh produce and browsing. The authentic local restaurants are very good, with successful recommendations from our hostess. Bergerac is about 30 minutes away and is a good shopping destination. Medieval Sarlat nearby is a very pretty town with so much to do and well worth the trip.

It was a very special trip and very memorable and we hope to return for Christmas 2016! Thank you Jane for taking care of us so well and for asking us to write a review of your beautiful home.

We stayed with my brother and his kids for 10days we had a great time. We have 2 young kids and the house was very well equipped for kids with toys and games. I would highly recommend this house to anybody with kids below 7yrs. We loved the canoeing on the river Dordogne near by and the lake in Tremolat. We went to a restaurant in Lanquais less than 10mins walk from the house, it was called Auberge Les Marronniers. Fabulous traditional and seasonal cuisine from Perigord. We love it. Its a must for anyone who's in the area and likes quality food.
