Chateau in Dohem, Nord-Pas-De-Calais, France - Country Location, Close To Golf Courses
This delightful Chateau has a romantic history; in 1875 Andre Joseph Courtat built a large and beautiful property on the birthplace of his wife. The Chateau has breathtaking views over open countryside and is set in the heart of the Regional Natural Park Caps and Marais d’Opale in a small village called Dohem which is just a short 35 minute drive from both the Eurotunnel and the Ferry, making it ideal for those who want to holiday in France but without all the driving. The property is set behind a high wall and is approached over a sweeping crunchy gravel drive with plenty of parking space for 8-10 cars, through wrought iron gates.
This beautiful Chateau has been completely renovated to a very high standard. It has 6 bedrooms arranged over two floors, 3 of which have en suite shower rooms, a large light and airy lounge with wood burning stove, Games Room with Pool Table, Study with Wi-Fi, fully equipped Kitchen with large range style cooker, fridge/freezer with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, large walk in Pantry and Utility Room with washing machine and tumble dryer, large Dining Room seating 12, ground floor cloakroom, first floor cloakroom and large family bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. The attached barn has a large fitted Gymnasium, Sauna Room.
Outside the property has a large decked eating out area outside the kitchen with large table and chairs and to the rear of the property is a huge multi level decked area incorporating jacuzzi and swimming pool with plenty of seating and loungers and having far reaching views over open rolling countryside. There are large landscaped gardens with large lawned area and shrub borders and a separate 'secret garden' hidden away with a pond full of water lily's, goldfish and coy carp, a fountain and extensively planted with herbs and roses, a lovely place to sit and dream.

About Wendy Courtenay
My name is Wendy Courtenay. I have a passion for doing up old properties and interior design, so the Chateau was a real labour of love for me, and I am now satisfied it has been restored to its former glory. It is truly lovely throughout.
The house in Northern France we bought as a bit of a project in December 2010 and it has now been renovated to a very high standard both inside and out. You will find comfortable sofas and beds, a very well equipped kitchen (I love cooking) and well tended gardens.
I like our guests to have a real home from home experience, so you will find everything you need on hand to have a fabulous and memorable holiday.
Wendy Courtenay purchased this chateau / country house in 2010
Why Wendy Courtenay chose Pas-de-Calais
We wanted to buy a property in France that was not too far from the Eurotunnel or Ferry, so that we could have lovely weekends there. And the Chateau is just 35 minutes drive from both, so it makes it easy to travel to and from the UK.
We fell in love with Chateau de Dohem at first sight. It looks like a romantic castle and the views from the rear garden are just breathtaking. We were sold on the property before we even set foot inside
Set in a quiet location behind a high wall, you feel yourself unwind as soon as you are through the gates.
We took two years renovating the property and it is now truly beautiful both inside and out. It is a place to relax and enjoy with friends and family. We hope that you will enjoy staying here just as much as we do.
What makes this chateau / country house unique
The house transports you to a time gone by. You feel it is a special place as soon as you catch sight of it. So pretty it looks like a fairy castle.
The property has all modern conveniences and everything you need for your holiday has been thought about.
There are plenty of eating out areas and wicker style furniture in abundance.
There is a full size swimming pool and jacuzzi set into the large multi level decked area. There is also a fully equipped gymnasium and sauna room with shower block in the converted barn building.
The games room has a pool table and flat screen TV and there are plenty of board games for the kids.
There are two cots available, two high chairs and stair gates. There are also two inflatable mattresses.

The perfect setting for an amazing NYE!
I stayed in this amazing chateau over New Years Eve last year (2016) with 11 friends, 2 babies and a dog! It was the most perfect setting for a fabulous weekend with something that suited everyone's needs. The sauna and hot tub were amazing, the kitchen really well equipped, a lovely dining room for meals and a really comfy sitting room for chilling out and watching films.
We loved it so much we're planning on returning this year.
Luxury with a homely ambience
I booked the chateau for a special family celebration based on the website presentation, but I had one reservation (no pun intended!). The property looked so luxurious I was concerned that the family (3 generations with an age range of 64 to 16 months) might not be able to relax for fear of damaging some of the pristine furnishings.
That concern was immediately dispelled on arrival when we were given a very warm welcome from Wendy who stressed that the property was there to be enjoyed. On exploring the property we found it had that rare combination - an air of luxury and a homely ambience. The furnishings and contents were in excellent condition but looked to have been chosen for their practicality, almost as if to ensure that guests would not be afraid to use them.
Talking of the contents, it was almost as if the property was regularly used by the owners who had simply vacated the place to let us stay for a while. The generously stocked kitchen, the overflowing larder, the utility area with reserves for months, the games, the DVDs, the CDs, the library - all at our disposal. If we had known what provisions there would be on arrival we would not have worried about stopping off at a supermarket en route, and there seemed to be no expectation or obligation (apart from one's own conscience) to replace what was used. (And no delay in refunding the deposit, despite one or two breakages having been reported.)
The facilities are first-class, with the pool being a great hit. The house was easily large enough to cater for 6 adults and 5 children and the general consensus of the whole family was that we could not have found a better venue for our purpose. I have no hesitation in recommending it, nor in commending Wendy for her handling of all of the arrangements.
Relaxing comfortable atmospheric venue
Arriving at the gates you are immediately impressed at the first sight of the chateau. As you are shown around the interior the experience only gets better. This is the perfect venue for a family holiday. We visited with our 4 daughters, their partners and 2 grandchildren. There is plenty of space for everyone . The kitchen facilities are first class and there are gas and charcoal barbecues for outside cooking. Wendy is a wonderful host and was extremely generous with the provisions left by her which included wine and beer. The chateau is spotless both inside and outside with heated swimming pool. Plenty of basic things like towels. Our overriding impression is hat Wendy concentrates on ensuring that her guests thoroughly enjoy their stay and get value for money. Nothing is too much trouble for her and indeed when we left a part from our hire car Wendy arranged to return it to CDG airport for us. Absolutely no complaints about this accommodation and we are looking forward to a return
The best house we have ever stayed
From booking to departure the owner was truly amazing. The Chateau is stunning starting from kitchen to bedrooms, the gym the pool, everything. The kitchen is equipped so comprehensively including separate dinner services for out door eating. The area is lovely and close to supermarkets and also towns with lovely restaurants. We would highly recommend this home, it is home from home with all the luxuries. It is safe with beautiful views and stunning sunsets. We will be returning !!
Where to begin! First of all the size - lots of doors leading to lots of rooms. So much space just for us! The chateau is beautifully decorated throughout with great style and attention to detail, each room having a special character of its own. The very large kitchen has everything you could wish for and we appreciated the very generous welcome pack. We ate in four different places - in the kitchen, on the sunny terrace outside the kitchen, on the terrace overlooking the pool and in the lovely dining room. Our party consisted of all ages and there was something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed the pool, hot tub and games room. On our last night we had a pool tournament. A highlight was sitting in the hot tub with a glass of champagne watching the beautiful sunset.
We visited Le Touquet with its lovely large sandy beach and St Omer where we spent an enjoyable afternoon in the park. Our best day out was a visit to Dennlys Theme Park. It is not too big (about 30 rides) but there is enough to satisfy all members of the family, from the little ones right up to the teenagers and braver adults! A great day out for all the family and not too expensive.
However, we were always happy to get "home". So much to do and so little time - the week flew past.
Thank you Wendy. We will have lovely memories of a wonderful holiday we spent in your beautiful chateau.
3 families with 6 kids amongst us stayed here for a week in May. We had a fantastic time. The house is just beautiful and really well decorated, but incredibly comfortable and homely at the same time. All the facilities were great. The swimming pool was a big hit with the kids and we got a couple of days playing in the pool. The house was big enough that we never felt we were getting on top of one another. The kitchen has everything you could possible need. The pool room, gym, sauna and hot tub were also fab additions.
There is also plenty to do in the surrounding area. Agincourt is great for an afternoon, but there are parks and forests nearby too, We went to Le Touquet beach twice once in the sun and once in the rain! It is less than an hour away. The kids had an amazing time at Opalaventure (St Cecile Plage - 10 mins from Le Touquet). It is a really well run Go Ape, and our children 7-5yrs were well looked after.
Finally the owner Wendy cannot do enough to help you. she was there to greet us upon arrival and answered all my texts with queries really promptly! The house was beautifully clean and all the linen good quality. No lumpy beds at all - a rare find for a holiday home! An amazing place. Thank you
