About Tim Ferguson

Tim is a BASI qualified snowboard instructor, a MIAS Mountain Bike trainer and assessor and a British Cycling Road Cycling Coach. In his words "I live for the mountains...summer & winter"

Sara is a former elite athlete having competed for England on the track & as a Fell Runner. Sara now concentrates on beasting Tim up anything hilly!

Cat is our daughter, currently aged 11 she is racing road bikes both on the road and the track (velodrome) and is planning to compete in the 2018 Megavalanche, whilst in the winter Cat slalom ski races. Having to forever wait for Mum & Dad, Cat has also turned to the dark side and has started to snowboard too. She is already annoying her Dad, better technique learnt in 3 days, although Dad is her instructor and therefore claims all the credit!!

Tim Ferguson purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Tim Ferguson chose Viel-Alpe

We love skiing and cycling. Its the ALPS!!!

In the winter Tim snowboards, Sara skis and Cat does both.

In the summer Tim mountain bikes - both XC and downhilling. In July 2018 Tim won the masters category of the Megavalanche. Tim also road bikes, spending each summer 'Col Bagging' and trying to keep up with Sara.

Sara sticks fervently to her road bike, but she is ferocious. Sara is the only person we know who is disappointed when she gets to the top of a steep & gnarly climb.

Cat road bikes and mountain bikes. As a flat track racer, the hills are just for training purposes. Downhilling is fast becoming another of Cats passions though. The downhill trails in ADH are wicked.

But added to this are an amazing array of other good fun stuff. As a family we to the via ferrata each summer, rock climb on the hundreds of bolted sport routes, white water raft, stand up paddle board, wind surf on the lake, swim gym and climb in the sports centre and ice skate in the summer on the outdoor rink.

What makes this chalet unique

Catered Ski Chalet in the Winter - whats not to like? Come and try Alpe d'Huez for yourself and see what a fab fab resort it is.

ADH has the most amazing array of stuff to do, read on....

Golf Course - we don't play, but other guests have done!

Football & Rugby pitches - summer camps for kids happen in August

Sports Centre - an incredible gym, spinning classes, under water spinning classes, table tennis, indoor climbing wall, swimming pool and a lot more

Ice Rink - outside

Outdoor Swimming Pool - heated and open summer and winter

X Fly - they have a zip wire, jump air bag, high ropes climbing tower and maze crawl

Horse riding - summer only

Husky Dog Sledding - winter only

Skiddoo Trekking - winter only

Stand Up Paddleboarding, Wind Surfing, Canoeing & Pedalo's - summer only

Via Ferrata - some of the most amazing sections, over 250 metes high sitting above the Sarenne Gorge.

Climbing - hundreds and hundreds of bolted sport routes.

Mountain Biking - downhilling in the summer, the lifts are open, its a gravity sport.

Mountain Biking XC - hundreds and hundreds of kilometres of trails. A year in ADH wouldn't be enough.

Road Biking - ADH is the MECCA for roadies. The famous 21 Hairpins of Tour de France fame is the pinnacle, but add to that the Col du Galibier, Col du Lauteret, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col de Glandon, Col d'Ornon, Col de Sarenne and the list goes on and on and on

White Water Rafting - summer only

Massage and Spa Centre

Fabulous shopping: Rip Curl, Napapijri, Superdry to name but a few

Awesome bars and restaurants: The O Bar, Smithies, The Underground, The Sphere Bar, Freerider and many many more

ADH has its own glacier too: the Sarenne Glacier, making it as snow sure as it can be. In the summer the Megavalanche - the worlds premier downhill enduro mountain bike race starts on the glacier. 2000 downhillers race on the snow before trails lower down the mountain.

In the winter the Sarenne Glacier provides the longest Black run in Europe.

A fantastic week skiing in an Awesome Chalet

  • 5 of 5

This was my 3rd visit to this particular chalet and was booked last minute due to the massive dump of snow in Alpe D’Huez. I have been fortunate enough to have skied in many different locations across the world and this week has got to be up there with one of the best. The chalet is immaculate and the hosts Jill and Roger are very welcoming and professional. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is great I enjoyed every meal throughout the week and was full every night. The outdoor hot tub is just the answer for tired legs after a hard day on the slopes. The chalet is on the edge of town and for me is the perfect location it is quiet with unspoiled views over the valley below. It is possible to ski from the chalet down to the lift at Huez Village via a blue run or a red run access by walking 50 yds down the road. I made a point of Skiing back to the chalet every night. For those who don’t want to ski from the chalet there is a bus stop less than 100m from the chalet. The ski bus picks up every hour and takes you to the main lift station. The chalet has its own Mini bus and the hosts are more than happy to drop people off in town. Overall I would say this is a fantastic chalet in a world class resort and I will be returning.

Fantastic chalet in a great ski resort!

  • 5 of 5

A huge thank you to Tim and the chalet hosts Gill and Roger, who made our stay and our ski holiday. Upon our arrival we were greeted warmly by Gill and Roger and were shown to our room which was spacious with an en-suite. A really nice touch was the sweets on our pillows! The chalet is a short, free bus ride from the slopes (15 mins) and after a long day skiing it was great to come back to tasty treats such as flapjacks and cookies. The view from the hot tub is breathtaking and it was a great way to unwind. The breakfast and dinner was excellent and we never went hungry! After dinner it was great to sit down and watch sky sports (not so sure my wife agrees with this part!). Will definitely be back and have already recommended the chalet to our friends.

A fantastic chalet for a group of 14 people

  • 5 of 5

We chose this as a base for a group of walking and cycling enthusiasts and we weren't disappointed. The walks and cycling opportunities both on road and off road were amazing. The chalet met with all our expectations and the wonderful square table to seat us all, made sure we always had a great sociable breakfast and evening meal. Our average age was 55 and many said it was the best holiday ever!

  • 5 of 5

We went to Alpe D'heuz for biking, what amazing trails for all abilities not far from the door. The chalet took care of all our needs, A safe place for all our bikes to be hung up, inside the chalet. A lovely big table we could all sit at and enjoy our breakfast and Dinner banter about the days (offs). As for the hot tub wow.. amazing views and great way to relax after a hard day of biking. Thanks for the chalet, we will be back!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Had such a lovely time in the chalet. Very homely with everything to keep us entertained and comfortable. In a perfect spot for walking or biking into town and its right next to some awesome bike trails :) only downfall is riding past the chalet on the 21 hair pin ride with two hair pins left while everyone else is in the hot tub! Will definitely be coming back, thanks for having us!!
