About David and Vicky Search

My husband David have always lived in Sussex. We have five children, two of which are twins, and two grandchildren.

We share our home with Sadie our dog. She is a very loving but crazy Labradoodle!

I enjoy cooking and baking cakes. David is a keen gardener, and enjoys tennis. We both enjoy long walks on the beach and in the local countryside.

David and Vicky Search purchased this cottage in 2014

Why David and Vicky Search chose Bexhill

We always wanted a typical English cottage with character and a little history. The Ark has all of this. It was original built in the early 1800s. Named "The Ark" because someone once said that it looked a bit like "an upturned boat"! Its original owner was a famous local smuggler and there are interesting records of his illegal exploits in the Smugglers museum at Hastings.

The single story cottage is set in a secluded position but close to the centre of Little Common village

We obviously both love this little corner of England as we have lived in this area all our life!

This area has just about everything. Close to the seaside - just a couple of miles away, but also near to the Sussex countryside. There lots of historical, and interesting places to visit just on your doorstep.

What makes this cottage unique

Regular train service to London just 1hour 45 minutes away.

Walking distance to local shops, restaurants, takeaways. Buses to nearby towns and seaside.

The cottage is fully equipped, quiet, but not remote.

A single story property with every thing on a level would suit the less able. There is a pretty secluded south facing courtyard garden to the rear of the property with a picnic table and chairs for relaxation, or alfresco dining, accessed via French windows.

Although warm and cosy with gas central heating the cottage also has a wood burning stove and a supply of logs. Power shower, and TVs in both bedrooms as well as the sitting room.

Renters have an opportunity to stay in a truly unique property.

Unique place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

From time of booking to the end of our stay David and Vicky were very helpful and easy to communicate with. The directions even included a photo to show where the key safe was on the outside of the property and clear instructions were given to gain entry.

The property was very unusual on the outside (the shape) and lovely on the inside. The cottage had character, history and the owners have made it very special. It is very spacious with lots of storage and the shower will even play music to you if required!

Upon arrival inside we found the living room decorated with a Christmas tree and other decorations (we arrived on Christmas Day) and there was even a Christmas present and a card! Thank you.

We have stayed in many self-catering properties and this is one of the most well-equipped we have come across. We particularly appreciated the milk left as we had forgotten to bring any as open shops would have been difficult to find. We later discovered a Tesco Express within easy distance.

The heating made the place very cosy and having a wood-burning stove (with clear instructions how to light and plenty of wood, matches and fire-lighters to help with this) was an extra luxury, especially when the weather is wet, windy or cold (we had them all!)

On the second morning, we unfortunately locked ourselves out. A quick call, and David soon came to our rescue!

Parking was very convenient in the nearby church car park. The location is ideal as it is within easy reach of lots of local attractions (Bexhill, Hastings and Eastbourne) but off the main road and very quiet.

We really enjoyed our relaxing break and we are already planning to stay in “the Ark” again!

Beautifully presented and ideally located!

  • 5 of 5

We booked The Ark for a birthday celebration get away weekend and enjoyed a fabulous 3 night stay. The cottage was beautifully presented and the location was perfect for travelling to local attractions and just a half hour walk to the local seafront! A fabulous Chinese restaurant just over the road too!

Clean and quirky

  • 4 of 5

It's long and narrow but has everything you need for a family holiday. The property is very clean and the owners are nearby as well as kindly being on hand if there are any issues. It's well situated near Tesco, restaurants, a pub and shops across the road. The beach is 1.7km away. Perfect
