Apartment in La Herradura, Costa Tropical, Spain - Quiet Location at the Top of the Old Town, Air con, Pool, Parking and WiFi

The apartment is a brand new flat situated in 'Los Altos de las Maravillas', a small development situated at the top of the old town overlooking the bay of La Herradura and is just a short walk (450 metres) from the charming beach of this laid back Spanish coastal town. The accommodation is equipped to a high standard and is ideal for a couple, being spacious and offering an excellent level of comfort and privacy. It has a large double bedroom, fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms and a sitting room that leads on to a large and sunny terrace, orientated in a south west direction. Air conditioning is fitted, providing cool air in summer and warm air in winter. Guests will be delighted with the quality of the interior, but what makes the accommodation Opazo Beach View special is the large terrace and the view - it is all about the view! La Herradura is a delightful place for a holiday at all times of the year. Much quieter than its more famous neighbouring town of Nerja it has a genuine Spanish feel to it and has a number of bars, restaurants and beach eateries that are open all year. It is situated at one end of the Cerro Gordo Natural Park, a beautiful stretch of protected coastline, outstanding for its natural habitat and picturesque scenery. It makes an ideal base to explore the inland coastal area of the Almijarra Natural Park and the delightful towns of Frigiliana, Cómpeta, Almuñecar and Salobreña. Visits to Granada and the fabulous Alhambra palace are easily managed as part of a day's excursion, and from December to April a day trip to the Sierra Nevada ski resort is very possible. Locally you can enjoy sports such as scuba diving, windsurfing, dinghy sailing and paragliding, or just enjoy soaking up the sun from one of the choice of beaches in the area, whether the town beach of la Herradura with it palm trees, the charming beach situated close to the Marina del Este, or the undeveloped coastline of the Cerro Gordo with is hidden coves where naturist bathing is permitted.

About Robert King

We have lived in Spain since 2003, at Cortijo Opazo, which is located up in the mountains of Las Alpujarras, but not too far from La Herradura (about 80 minutes in car). Over the years we have got to know the area and have explored the coastline, from east to west. In our opinion La Herradura is the best location to be found between Almeria and Malaga, very Spanish, warm and friendly and in an area of extreme natural beauty. This is why we have chosen to invest in our third property rental, so we now offer coastal and mountain destinations.

Most of our time is spent working in our garden at Cortijo opazo, but when we want to relax, then La Herradura and Opazo Beach View is where we go.

We really like this town, it is easy to get to, has a good selection of bars and restaurants, the town is right on this great beach but it seldom feels busy or 'packed out'. We thought about buying in Nerja or one of the other towns, but our heart wasn't in it, La Herradura is where we want to be when not up in the mountains.

What makes this apartment unique

The terrace and the views are the two great things about this property. It has been well furnished and is just a comfortable place to be. There's even a pool if you want it!

Lovely apartment and location

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment with its superb location. The apartment was as described, clean and well maintained. The terrace is a lovely size with fantastic views of the sea, mountains and La Herradura below. Unfortunately the weather was unsettled during our stay and we were not able to use the terrace as much as we would have liked.

This is the third time we have visited this area but the first time we have stayed in the centre of town. We loved how we could walk down to the shops and restaurants without needing to use the car. We found the walk down is lovely and quaint although some might find it fairly strenuous walking back. We took advantage of using the garage parking and found this very convenient and secure. The instructions provided for the apartment and garage were very straightforward and helpful.

We certainly love this part of Spain and the variety it offers – from small unspoilt white villages in the mountains to the natural park of the Cerro Gordo with the pretty coves and beaches on your doorstep.

We would certainly recommend the apartment to our friends and family.and look forward to returning in the near future.

Opazo Beach apartment was exactly the home-from home we were hoping for.

The property was well equipped and had wonderful views. The town with all bars/restaurants, beach & chiringuitos is a 10-15 minute walk down a few flights of steps so a degree of mobility is required. It is possible to vary the route through charming cobbled lanes and ease the ascent somewhat. La Herradura is relaxed and welcoming and provided all our needs for our 2 week stay. Lots of interesting and picturesque places to visit within a short drive, especially Frigilliana & Competa.

Blue Sea and Sunshine

We enjoyed our stay in this delightful apartment. It is spacious, well-appointed, spotless and very comfortable, and of course the terrace and the view are superb. We had lunch outside every day and sunbathed every afternoon. We were lucky with the weather as there was brilliant sunshine for almost all of our two January weeks.

Having a keysafe is great, as there are no hassles with checking in or leaving. And the host is responsive to texts and emails.

We had stayed near here the previous winter, so the steep hills and steps of La Herradura held no surprises. (At 80, I am a little slower walking uphill than I was last year, but I managed just fine and we walked down for coffee and shopping every morning.)

The only downside, for us, was that we had just spent two weeks in a centrally heated apartment in Almunecar and coming here to just one small radiator for a large apartment was a bit of a shock, as the January evenings and early mornings are chilly. We had to buy hot water bottles from the farmacia as the bedroom was so cold. Other than that, though, everything was great.

Wonderful holiday in a superb apartment

Opazo Beach in La Herradura is a lovely apartment with everything you could wish for.... and more besides.

It is located at the top of the old town in a peaceful residential area.

The property is very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. There is a large balcony with superb views of the bay.. It is perfect for relaxing, sunbathing, eating out,.

We really enjoyed watching the stunning sunsets as we drank a glass or two of wine. Perfect.!

La Herradura is a lovely unspoilt laid back Spanish seaside town. There is a good range of eateries, small supermarkets, market.

There are good walks, beautiful coastline and mountains - a perfect base for exploring this lovely area of Spain

Wonderfull Holiday appartment

The apartment was all we expected and more. The sea views were stunning and the owner Robert was extremely helpful and easy to contact. The rooms were spotless and it has two toilet/shower rooms.. Although high up in the back of the town the sea front was easy to reach via steps down from nearby. On the sea front there are many restaurants and bars. Also mini supermarkets with a wide selection of British and Spanish produce. Eating out on the balcony was an unforgettable experience and an overhead canopy could be used to protect from the sun when needed. There is excellent parking facilities in the basement of the apartments and were very secure. All in all a holiday to be warmly remembered. I would highly recommend booking this apartment for a peaceful luxury break.

Stunning views spotlessly clean ! A lovely spacious apartment with everything you need !

The apartment is wonderful the only thing it was missing is air conditioning a real must in the summer months !! A very hilly steep walk back up from the town but a very quick drive down to the town . Would definitely stay again !!!

Closest beach is La Herradura, just a short walk of 450 metres downhill. This is a safe town beach that has life guards in the summer and areas protected from motor and sail boats. Windsurfing boards, kayaks, sailing dinghies and 'Hobby cats' available for hire. Various other beach options available in the near vicinity including secluded coves and naturist beaches.

Travel:

Nearest airport Malaga, just under an hour away. Car hire recommended but not essential as you can arrive here on public transport or by taxi. Please ask for details at the time of booking.

Further Details:

The town of la Herradura has a number of individual shops, green grocers, butchers, bakeries, fishmongers and a daily fresh food market (closed Sunday). You will not find high street chain shops nor large hypermarket stores, although they can be found a short drive away.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The style of the accommodation is modern, the furniture is new and of good quality, and there is plenty of light in all parts of the flat. Since there are windows at the front and the rear of the property then it is well ventilated, and its position overlooking the town means there is normally a good movement of air. Garage parking in the same building is available if requested in advance - additional cost, please enquire. Otherwise on street parking is usual available except at busy times of year. There is a lift from the garage to the apartment. Outside: The sun terrace is a large space of 22 metres square. Some of this is covered but the majority is fully open to the sky. There is an electronic sun shade that extends out over most of the space if required. The terrace has a table and four chairs for out door dining plus two sun loungers and two portable sun beds for use on the terrace, the poolside, on the roof or at the beach, as you wish. There is a roof terrace just one floor above the apartment that is completely open in all directions. On the lower floor there is a swimming pool, shared with other occupants of this small development (open all year). There is space here for sunbathing, along with changing rooms, showers and toilets. Use of the pool is free to our guests. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Clean towels and linen provided in the price and can be changed weekly. If you would like clean towels more often there is a washing machine for your use. Other: The front door of this top floor apartment opens on to a hall from which all the other rooms lead. Main door is accessed by stairs or a lift.
