Guestbook comments from the owner

Absolutely fantastic cottage and situated in a truly peaceful idyllic setting. The cottage has everything that's needed for the family including the dog. The local walking was outstanding and the dog loved the freedom. There is a Porlock app that can be downloaded that has the local walks on it which was very informative and the waymarks are signed clearly. I'd recommend this place to anyone and will hopefully be back at some point.

Spacious, comfortable,lovely setting

  • 4 of 5

This is a well maintained property with good sized rooms and a well equiped kitchen. It is situated on a very quiet road up a valley leading out of Porlock. All you can hear at night is the burbling of the brook. The outside area is just right for al fresco eating, especially so in the morning when the sun is on the face of the old quarry behind the house. The garden is shaded from late afternoon onwards in summer.

Everything was very clean for our arrival. There is a good downstairs shower room and a bath upstairs.

The TV reception was unreliable and kept loosing signal-frustrating when watching Murray play at Wimbledon.

We did find it difficult getting into the drive-the turn is very tight, it often took several goes and several minutes.

An enjoyable stay with walks that can be started from the door. It is a 15min walk into Porlock from the house

charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful location, quiet, view of combe, yet only 10 mins walk to shops, pubs, restaurants. Many footpaths to explore this stunning part of Exmoor. Quarry Cottage was surprisingly spacious and very well appointed, every need catered for, warm and comfortable. A definite plus is off road parking, which many cottages locally do not provide. We highly recommend Quarry Cottage.

Perfect Holiday Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 3 weeks in idyllic Quarry Cottage to celebrate my 60th birthday. We asked if we could have friends and family stay at different times and Sarah was so accommodating. Everyone loved staying at the cottage and I'm sure will themselves return in the future. We arrived to a welcome pack which was so useful after the long journey we had made. As for entertaining the kitchen is incredibly well equipped with amazing storage, large fridge/freezer and great sized cooker. The lounge and dinning room accommodated all our guests with ease. We could not have asked for anything more. Upstairs the beds were so comfortable with white linen and soft fluffy towels. Porlock area is very unique with so much to see and do, the cottage made an ideal base. Quarry Cottage is the best rental holiday cottage we have ever used.

Brilliant location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage, perfect position, nice and close to the village but not too close, 10 minutes walk, 3 minutes drive, very peaceful. Lovely walks so close by. The village was very friendly, lovely pubs, lovely food, the whole area was very dog friendly. Perfect for our needs. Didn't have to travel very far to explore and experience the beautiful country side of Dartmoor, North Devon and Somerset, in all the nicest area we have stayed in since travelling to the UK over the last 5 years, including Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. Seriously recommended.

Quarry Cottage exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

Quarry Cottage lived up to its promise and indeed exceeded our expectations. We all found it comfortable, well- equipped and attractive. We were able to make use of the private and pretty garden and it would not have been a problem to spend more time relaxing in the house had the weather been poor. As it was, we were able to enjoy the 15 minute walk down to the village and the other local walks and paths in all directions. Visitors to Porlock shouldn't miss the views west across the Bay from Bossington Hill and Hurlestone Point, east across the marshes from the top of Porlock Toll Road and the views in all directions for Dunkery Beacon. And there are plenty of opportunities to research cream teas and other local food.

Location

From the Owner

This cottage was our home for 5 years, so it really does feel like home from home. It is a great size, with 3 double bedrooms, large kitchen, large lounge and a separate dining room. The many walks from the doorstep are fantastic, into the combe with views across Porlock and the sea across to Wales. It has everything you need for young children, with highchairs, travel cots, toys, back packs and strollers. We have 2 of everything to cater for twins. The bootroom is fantastic for those with dogs to wipe muddy paws on the towels provided.
