About the property

Spacious light modern house with large garden situated on the edge of the pretty village of Rhu

The Moorings is situated on a spit of land on the shores of Gareloch with spectacular views out to the Arrochar Alps and with boats moored at the end of the garden. To back and front of the spit there are beaches and the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club is just next door and a hotel and pub nearby. The house is in the small village of Rhu with a couple of shops, village hall and church and the nearby town of Helensburgh 5 mins away by car. The city of Glasgow is 30 miles away and there is an excellent train service into Glasgow from Helensburgh taking only 45mins. The house has recently been extensively modernized and extended, creating a light open plan kitchen, diner with comfy seating area with wood burning stove. The lounge has 6m of glass doors looking out to the stunning view across the sea loch and also has a wood burning stove. There are various seating areas throughout the garden, with a swing seat, fire pit and BBQ. The house is 15 mins by car from Loch Lomond and perfectly situated for visits to Glasgow for fabulous Art Galleries, Museums, Theatre, Cinemas and city shopping. During the winter months skiing is just over an hour away in Glen Coe. For the hill walker there are beautiful walks either on mountains or more gentle hills pretty much in every direction. There is a ferry service from Kilcreggan just round the peninsular, across the Clyde to Greenock and the steam ship Waverley regularly calls by with trips up the west coast. There are 2 RYA Sailing clubs a marina and 2 yachts clubs all within walking distance of the house.

About Ali Mills

I have been working in the Television Industry for over twenty years as a set designer and my house reflects my keen interest in design.

Ali Mills purchased this house in 2009

Why Ali Mills chose Cairndow

The area is incredibly beautiful with The Arrochar Alps in the distance, Loch Lomond 15 minutes away in the car and a wealth of sea life including porpoises and seals in the bay in front of us.

The house is perfectly situated within stunning countryside and is within easy access of Glasgow which is 45 minutes away by car or train.

We love the sea and with our boat moored in the Loch in front of the house are able to sail around the gorgeous Clyde Estuary and up the west coast.

What makes this house unique

Whilst staying in The moorings you will experience the exquisite sunsets from the master bedroom , kitchen and lounge. You will be able to walk on the spit with its lovely shingle beaches and enjoy gorgeous countryside in every direction.

The house is modern and beautifully designed, spacious, light and comfortable, with two wood burners.

The house is a family home, with books, games and toys to keep all the family entertained.

The Moorings was a well equipped and comfortable house for our annual reunion week. Plenty of space, the dining kitchen was very sociable for cooks, drinkers and just sitting around. Amazing views and an ideal outside area for warm weather. Highly recommended.

Wonderful House, perfect for our family of 5

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in Rhu, the house was as advertised, pictures were accurate, rooms were comfortable easily accommodating the 5 of us. The kitchen and family room were perfect for relaxing after a day out. The foosball table was a big hit!

Highly recommended if you're looking for a great base to explore Glasgow and the Highlands.

The moorings is the perfect place to call home away from home. There are so many things we loved about the place such as the views, facilities, coziness and location.

It is a place we highly recommend for a relaxing holiday and somewhere we look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Family Holiday June 2016

  • 5 of 5

We have just got back from a fantastic weeks holiday in Rhu, the house, its location and the views of the Loch are fantastic. Rhu / Helensburgh is a great place for exploring the Loch Lomond area of Scotland and we would definitely consider returning here for future holidays in this area.

Finally a big thank you to Ali, who was extremely helpful with good communication regarding access and local amenities etc.

Fabulous Family Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

Superb house in stunning location with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Plenty of space for family with 3 teenagers, who really enjoyed the table football! Having two lounges, plus large kitchen and dining room gave us all lots of space. Lovely garden and outside seating areas and the views over the Loch are amazing too! Great place to explore the surrounding area and Loch Lomond. We even had great weather ...!

WOW!What a view!

  • 5 of 5

for us a cottage holiday scores on four points.

1)the cottage itself

2)what the cottage is equipped with

3)surrounding area

4)customer service from the owner

The cottage is beautiful with a view of the loch and the sunsetting behind it. Leafy back garden where you can utilise the firepit and enjoy the view or even from the lounge. It is set in a perfect position. The moorings comes with all mod cons like wifi tv etc plus plenty for the kids in terms of toys books games etc to suit all ages. To give you an idea we were a party of 2 toddlers 1 baby, 3 teenagers two young couples and my elderly mother. Everyone of us were entertained throughout. There was bbq area plenty of seating area outside, and plus a veg patch with all fresh vegs to pick for our daily salad etc and those cooking addicts.! The surrounding area is lovely, helensburgh and the village rhu have are full of friendly people easy to talk to and welcoming. Loch lomond and all it has to offer in terms of outdoor activities etc is a mere 10-15 min drive and inverary castle is not too far as well. Finally the service from Ali Miller. She is a star, easy to communicate with prompt with her responses even after payment was made, updated us regularly and made us feel looked after right till the very end. We cannot fault her at all. Hopefully in the future we will come back. Anyone looking to book this property, please do not hesitate you will not regret!
