About the property

Duplex Cottage in Honfleur, Normandy, France - Centre Ville - Peaceful Gated Complex - 5 minutes walk to Port & Restaurants

Situated right in the heart of the charming Normandy port of Honfleur, within a private, gated complex of traditional style fisherman's cottages. Built from plan in 2004 with solid block work, soft pastel render and finished with double glazed windows ensuring excellent insulation qualities and a peaceful evenings sleep with bedrooms overlooking the private garden. A self contained 'Duplex' cottage with a stairwell leading you from a large lounge area on the ground floor to the two bedrooms on the first floor, both overlooking the South West facing garden.

The property also has the advantage of a large, secure, parking space, underneath the site accessed via a remote control steel gate, 2 x pedestrian stairwells with self locking doors lead up to the cottages at ground level.

There is a supermarket, boulangerie, butcher, delicatessen and pharmacy etc. within a couple of minutes walk of the cottage. You will also have an access key from a private gate within the complex leading you into streets immortalised by 'Claude Monet' (Information plaque erected) where within a few minutes you can walk directly into 'Place St Catherine' the famous Church re-built in Oak by the local shipbuilders after Henry V burnt down the original.

There is a busy food market here every Saturday from 9am until midday, over 100 restaurants in and around the harbour catering from crépes & local cider to Michelin *** restaurants, there is something to suit everyone. A superb new visitor centre is attached to the library where you may research further information and guide brochures on current local events and places of interest to visit.

The Normandy beaches can be accessed easily following the beautiful coast road to Deauville. Pegasus bridge, Caen memorial, Arromarches, the US cemetery at Omaha beach and Saint-Marie-Eglise have all been upgraded in 2014 for the 70th anniversary of D-day with some superb new presentation scenes.

The Bayeux tapestry is only an hours drive away, Giverny is 1hr 20min where you can visit the House and gardens of Claude Monet and the American museum of art is within a stones throw. Enjoy the end of the day with a cool glass of wine in a the secluded garden.

Our names are Gina and Graham and we live in Kingswood Surrey UK. We fell in love with Honfleur when touring France with friends and have returned over the years in classic sports cars and Harley Davidson's.

Les cottages du port was a concept model in the agents window and we made a snap decision to build from plan with the developer flying in to Biggin Hill two weeks later to pick up a deposit. Graham loves his cars & bikes so top of the list was the largest slot in the secure underground parking, the result is close friends with exotic cars love to drive to Honfleur and visit the 100 plus local restaurants knowing their pride and joy is locked safely away. Eating around the harbour at sunset you can understand why the French impressionists used to meet here!

Living in the SE of England with good connections on the Eurotunnel the charming port of Honfleur can be reached within 2.5 hrs drive from the French terminal. With over 100 restaurants around the port we can decide to leave the UK at short notice in the afternoon and be sitting in a restaurant around the port watching the sunset at 8pm.

There is always a busy market on Saturday mornings where you can really enjoy the ambiance of the French lifestyle.

During the winter months a Russian Market surrounds the port just before Christmas, Classical Music playing in the 'greniers a sel' with the port looking beautiful decked out with Christmas decorations. New Year's eve is a big celebration here, welcoming log fires in the bars and restaurants make Honfleur an all year destination.

French Blue Flag awarded to the beach (Plage du Butin) in Honfleur for 2014 within walking distance 1km along the promenade to the left of the port entrance. The finest quality flat white sand beaches can be found at Trouville and Deauville a 10km drive along the coastal road. Enjoy a day visiting the the Normandy invasion beaches by following the beautiful coastal route.

Honfleur is a year round location as you can see from the pictures posted. During the autumn & winter there are Art exhibitions, a Russian Christmas market surrounding the port and the welcoming smell of log fires burning in the bars and restaurants, Driving into the Port at Christmas the decorations are superb and warm the heart with a reminder of an English Christmas of old.

New years eve is always celebrated with a seafood feast, the local fishing fleet and the clean water table of the Atlantic coast ensures a fresh daily catch. The supermarkets are stocked for the discerning Parisian market and during the September 'Fois aux Vins' (wine festival) you will find the very best of Bordeaux wines sold in cases of 6 ready to lie down or savour during the Christmas holidays.

Fine Bordeaux wines may be sourced locally at approximately 50% of the UK market price.

What A Gem (hidden in Honfleur!)

Thank you, Graham and Gina, for your help and advice via email and phone when we booked and for the great directions to your beautiful home in Honfleur. No arguments between driver and navigator on this occasion!

The cottage is stylish, spotlessly clean and comfortable, with everything needed to self cater for 4 people (not that we did, much, as there are so many restaurants to choose from with good value set menus, within 10 mins walk. Les Deux Ponts became a favourite). Carrefour Market across the road has all the essentials ( nice bakery goods for breakfast) and there's a much bigger supermarket a few mins drive away on the roundabout at the end of rue de la Republique heading out of town;this has a huge range of lovely fresh food ...and booze! Great for stocking up on cheap wine and cider to bring home! There's also a Lidls on the road out towards the Pont de Normandie and a good petrol station along there, too.

The location of the cottage is really convenient for the restaurants, shops and attractions of the town and also for reaching the main roads. The secure parking is a huge bonus! It's hard to believe you're so close to everything as the complex is so quiet. Friendly neighbours, too; one gentleman knocked on the door to let us know we'd left our car lights on in the garage.

Honfleur itself is delightful but there's also so much to see and do within easy reach if you don't mind driving (on good roads!): D Day beaches, Bayeux, Rouen, Pays d'Auge, Monet's garden and coastal towns like Deauville and Trouville. Richard the Lionheart's castle at Les Andeleys is spectacular and well worth the trip.

The booking process is straightforward, the info provided is clear and everything is so easy.

Sorry if I've rambled on, but this is a special place and we'd love to return sometime. We thoroughly recommend Graham and Gina's lovely home as a great base to explore Normandy and all it has to offer.

Nice and comfortable cottage

The cottage is in a very central location in Honfleur and has the added bonus of a garage. It is very well equipped - there is even an iron and ironing board! We were lucky with the weather so could draw full advantage of the small garden too. We would not hesitate recommending this cottage to others, and we would also rent it again if we decide to return to Honfleur.

Wonderful Location

Honfleur was a really lovely French town within easy access of lots of great beaches and other day trips. As a young family, we loved going to the nearby Maize Maze and Cerza Zoo as well.

The cottage was a short walk to the main harbour and was a perfect size with a lovely garden, which was small but safe and enclosed for the little ones. There was no tea towel or clean washing up sponges and we only had three towels between four of us, but otherwise everything else was provided and the cottage was clean and nicely decorated.

Two notes for visitors: the stairs are fairly steep and right outside the bedroom doors - slight concern with little ones in the middle of the night; and the wifi wasn't working at all for us. The owner was helpful in offering solutions, but apparently it can be unreliable in bad weather (it rained most days we were there but wasn't too bad). Ultimately, we had to purchase extra data on our mobile phone plans which added a good £40. I wouldn't say it detracted from the holiday though as we weren't there to be hooked up to IT, but just worth noting if you are reliant on wifi for work or something.

All in all, a lovely cottage in a great location.

Lovely stay in Honfleur

This cottage is in a quiet and well maintained development, very close to a supermarket and an excellent deli. We loved it and the secure parking was a huge bonus. The cottage is extremely well equipped and has the benefit of a fairly secluded private garden with furniture. Gina and Grahams's suggestions of restaurants were great and we also loved L'Alycon bar - very friendly and good for people watching! Honfleur has a lot of interesting museums and parks - les Jardins des Personnalites and Naturospace are easily accessible. A great holiday and we would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Marvellous property, beautifully equipped, furnished, and situated.

Stayed just over a week in this fabulous little cottage. Everything you could want was here from selection of books and DVDs, brochures for trips and meals out and excellent self catering facilities for those stay at home restful evenings after a busy day sightseeing.

Only thing that was a disappointment was the photo suggested that there were two balconies but these were not rooms for this duplex apartment . Garden at rear was however lovely and e real sun trap with lovely reclining chairs.
