About Gerry Gillies

We are a small family run business. We moved from Scotland to North Cornwall in 2009 taking over the cottages from the previous owners who had undertaken the original conversion. The cottages have undergone further substantial renovation since. We have 3 children, 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, and a tortoise !

We also have a lodge in Scotland in Dunkeld Perthshire on Erigmore Estate.

Gerry Gillies purchased this barn in 2009

Why Gerry Gillies chose Cornwall

We came on holiday to this part of North Cornwall every year from 2002 and fell in love with it. Not just obviously the beautiful coastal scenery and stunning beaches, but the pace and way of life. We have the advantage of knowing the area very well but also understanding the needs and demands of someone who is on holiday. We can tell you the best places to visit, the best places to eat, the best walks to enjoy, the best tourist attractions, and even the places to avoid. We live on site in the original farmhouse and are there to help if needed. Many of our guests come back regularly so we must be doing something right !

What makes this barn unique

We live in a wonderful secluded rural location with stunning scenery. All our cottages have private gardens with brick barbecues and are dog friendly. We have woodburners to warm you up on chilly days, modern kitchens, free wifi, and ample parking.

We are delighted to offer our guests the chance to use our new beach hut at Summerleaze Beach in Bude.

Great getaway from it all

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous few days away from the hussle and bustle of work. Not to far from the beach and a quick nip down the road to the shops.

Evything you could need for a break from it all. Arrived to tea, coffee and milk the necessitis after a long drive which was a welcome to a wearly traveler.

Grandad gave us great directions to the nearest shops to stock up on food.

The dogs also enjoyed running around in the enclosed garden and even had a run about with the guests next door.

Roaring fire for the chilly nights was a perfect end to the day.

Thank you for making us feel welcome and we'll definitely be back.

Wonderful Stay at Swallow Barn

  • 5 of 5

Located in an idyllic setting and close to the beaches and attractions of this part of Cornwall. The barn was very clean with comfortable beds and all amenities. Everything was well organized and labelled for convenience and we liked the laundry facilities. An added bonus was use of the beach hut and amazing solar kettle. The owners were super nice and helpful. Lots of great local places to eat out not too far away. All in all first class.

Peaceful and relaxing!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swallow Barn, and for us, it couldn't have been in We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swallow Barn, and for us, it couldn't have been in a more ideal location. It is stunningly beautiful, in every direction! We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and the cottage was spotlessly clean. There was fresh milk in the fridge, wood and coal for the fire ( which was lovely on a chilly evening ) and many other little extras to make it feel quite " homey" . Our two little dogs enjoyed the back garden and walking out in the pastures, so much so, they didn't even want to leave. We visited local beaches that were only minutes away, and just enjoyed exploring the area. We will definitely return again to continue our explorations ,and to soak up the peaceful atmosphere.a more ideal location. It is stunningly beautiful, in every direction! Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Swallow Barn for a winter short break. The barn is superbly equipped. We were particularly impressed with the dishwasher, fridge/freezer and the USB charging points in the kitchen and master bedroom. Every little detail has been thought about, tea-towels, dishwasher tablets, hairdryer, bin bags and dishcloths were all provided and the accommodation was spotless. Very dog friendly too with easy to clean floors an enclosed garden and a dog bowl provided. We loved the log burner. The first basket of logs and bucket of coal is included after that it's £2 a basket/bucket. Such a peaceful location with great countryside views, thoroughly recommended.

WINTER BREAK

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage set in lovely surroundings, My Daughter and I just wanted a place to relax and unwind and that's what we did. The cottage is well equipped and we didn't want to leave.Central to all the places we wanted to visit and explore.

Our Little dog Snoop settle in straight away, he loved running round in the garden. The cottage is so warm we never got a chance to use the fire. Thank you for a lovely stay, will be recommending you to our friends and family. We were glad we choose you for our holiday stay. Denise, Rebecca and Snoop.
