Villa in Ratzakli, situated between Skala and Katelios, Kefalonia, Greek Islands, Greece - Stunning villa, sleeps 7, just a few minutes drive to the beach and very close to Skala and Katelios

Villa Valentina is set overlooking the Ionian ocean and the neighbouring island of Zakynthos. The villa is set within its own extensive grounds, on the outskirts of the historical village of Ratzakli nestled between the resorts of Skala and Katelios. Panoramic views from all balconies and terrace areas are breath-taking looking the turquoise waters of the Ionian sea stretching across the horizon in front of you. To the rear the grounds are nestled by olive groves and the mountains beyond with brilliant footpaths taking you to other outreaching villages (this is great for mountain biking, quad biking and horse riding and for photographers and painters too!!). A great location for those seeking seclusion, yet only minutes from the main resorts.

Set behind its own gated large private gardens, the closest neighbour being 200 metres away in the nearby village of Ratzakli, which has its own café and restaurant, this gives the guests a combination of luxurious surroundings, a laid back atmosphere and dramatic scenery. Only a few minutes drive/walking distance to the turtle beach of Kaminia and several other beaches along the shore, restaurants and shops. The village of Ratzakli, Kaminia beach and Katelios are all within a comfortable distance.

The detached villa is of a large contemporary style, fully furnished by British owners and is built over three levels. The modern open plan split level living area has a fully fitted, modern kitchen, large Neff oven, electric hob, extractor, American style fridge freezer, microwave, coffee maker, blender, dishwasher, etc. The kitchen is very well equipped with all the appliances and utensils you would ever need. There is also a beautiful dining area with large table table and comfortable upholstered chairs. Additionally, a smaller table, ideal for children, with wipe down seats plus a highchair should you need it.

On this level there is a cloakroom, large glass luxury corner shower room, mirror and washstand, drawered cabinet under. A large master bedroom with its own terrace, comprising outdoor seatee, coffee table and reading chair all on ground level, set overlooking the breath taking views. The master bedroom has large modern wardrobes, safe, with ample hanging space and drawers. In this master bedroom there is a large flat screen TV, DVD player, Wifi, dressing table and mirrors. A 5ft comfortable bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, plenty of pillows, side cabinets and luxury towels.

Steps from the formal dining area lead down to the large open plan lounge which is on a lower level. This is comfortably furnished with large leather sofa's and chairs, coffee tables, lamps and also has a satellite flat screen TV with a full list of channels including sports, childrens and film channels, DVD player, games and books for all ages. A Bose music system provides a lovely sound. The lounge opens up via two large patio doors opening onto an extensive covered patio, purpose built barbecue. Upstairs in the villa there are two further large bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room with toilet washstand and large mirror over, Laura Ashley king sized bed (single bed with additional trundle available at request e.g. 75 euros per additional bed per week enabling the villa to sleep up to 8 by arrangement), making this an ideal family room, dressing table and well furnished, with its own balcony and lovely sea views from all windows.

The other bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with 3/4 bath and shower over with toilet, wash stand and large mirror. The bedroom has twin beds, large wardrobe, dressing table, side tables and lamps with its own balcony and furniture. All of the bedrooms have either their own balcony or patio making it perfect for those travelling with extended family members.

Additionally, there is a cot/playpen, highchair available and plastic plates and beakers for children.

The lounge areas have large patio doors leading onto gardens and terraces with additional seating and dining areas for you to relax and enjoy the views.

The landscaped gardens are mainly laid to lawn with plentiful flower beds containing a variety of shrubs, plants, palms and fruit trees, there is a separate garage in the grounds where you will find additional utilities as well as a washing machine, additional sink and beach umbrellas, buckets and spades and inflatables, large professional table tennis and other outdoor games.

The large swimming pool terrace is extensive and overlooks the sea. The swimming pool is much larger than those usually found at villas, with a size measuring 11 x 5. 5m pool and Roman steps, hydrotherapy jets. This is a great place to relax and unwind. A large covered corner pergola provides shade in the hot weather. There are plentiful sun beds, umbrellas, table and chairs for you to sit and relax all with amazing views out to sea.

On poolside there is a large pergola area offering additional seating, particularly enjoying the floodlite pool and surround for cocktails in the evening. A further large table and chairs.

There are loungers, seat, tables and umbrellas a plenty. Hydrotherapy massage jets in the pool if you are not quite relaxed enough.

Table tennis, Boulle and outdoor games are all available for your use. A selection of beach umbrellas, mats and swimming floatations are at your disposal to use or take to the beach!

The villa is serviced by English staff weekly with fresh towels and linens and can arrange anything else you may need. The swimming pool is professionally maintained regularly, again by a British man and usually calls before guests are awake early in the morning. We use an English pool specialist who checks the water quality and maintains the pool safety.

Hampers and other services are available on request.

Please contact the owner for your special requests.

Just below the villa is the beautiful long sandy turtle beach of Kaminia within the bay of Mounda. It is around a 2 minute drive downhill. It is easily walkable and would take about 20 minutes, however the road is steep and windy so will take longer coming back up and may not be suitable for everyone as it can be exertive. This beach is relatively unspoilt and rarely gets busy even in high season. The beach is a nesting site for the Loggerhead turtles and is a great place for those that enjoy conservation. There are a couple of cantinas selling drinks, snacks and ice creams throughout the day and you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas. The beach itself is very gently shelving into the sea, making it perfect for children and adults.

A 2 minute drive west along the coast will bring you to the laid back resort of Katelios. Renowned for its fresh fish, you will find many restaurants along the beach front boasting fresh fish caught that very morning often by the restaurant owner! The beach is also gently shelving and sandy with sunbeds and umbrellas and motorboat hire. 5 minutes by car in the other direction and you will come to the more bustling resort of Skala, which has a large choice of good quality restaurants, café bars, gift shops and supermarkets together with a fairly laid back nightlife. However, in the Summer months there are some techno bars with dancing and entertainment. Visit the Roman villa which has beautiful mosaic floors and a temple. If you wander through to old Skala there is even the remains of an old amphitheatre.

The blue flag awarded beach at Skala is long and gently shelving. There are a couple of beach bars selling drinks, ice creams and snacks throughout the day. Sunbeds and umbrella are available for rent and there is also a watersports centre on the beach. You can also book local cruises from here to neighbouring islands or take a trip on the glass bottom boat. In the height of the season there are horse and carriage rides, horse-riding and novelty train. There is also several restaurants offering fine dining, cocktail bars and entertainment offered by the hotels.

About Sharon Walters

Now retired as a local government officer, my husband and I love to share our holiday home with guests. We pride ourselves in a high level villa offering guests the luxuries that make a holiday special. We use English service providers ensuring that the pool, cleaning and gardening is kept to a high standard.

We enjoy sharing our holiday home with family, friends and guests and we have guests return year on year.

Sharon Walters purchased this villa in 2011

Why Sharon Walters chose Elios Proni

Ater visiting the island of Kefalonia some 15 years ago and being already well travelled, we knew that Kefalonia was a place that we wanted to visit again and again. With its unspoilt beaches and the locals very welcoming, its culture and history, it made each and every stay more special.

Finding a piece of land virtually by accident only days of being advertised, with its breath-taking views it was meant to be and here we are. Having a plot of land and a bespoke house constructed to take in the most of the ocean views and islands, Kefalonia is a very special place to us and we hope that we can share with our guests the love we have for the island.

What makes this villa unique

Rest and relaxation. A little piece of heaven on earth, but we also enjoy the good food, Greek culture and have made some good friends, which makes each visit even more special.

With the villa being situated close to turtle beach of Kaminia this is a wonderful place to holiday with the children and to share special memories.

We love our home in Kefalonia and it is our pleasure to share it with our guests.

We pride ourselves on offering exceptional service for guests staying at the villa. We have English staff servicing the pool, garden and property ensuring that each guest's visit is as memorable as possible.

As we have both worked with international delegates we are well aware of the standards that people expect when travelling and staying at a villa. Kefalonia villa holidays vary tremendously and many you will find are not well equipped and not always state what is on the label, so to say. We ensure that our villa meets the highest standards and we take feedback and constantly ensure that the villa meets the needs of our guests over and beyond their expectations.

We have a dedicated website at where you can book online securely using debit or credit cards. We ask only a small deposit to secure your holiday with the balance 6-8 weeks prior to departure.

We hope that we can welcome you to our lovely home.

Great location and fantastic villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks. The villa is located walking distance to KATELIOS with all its fish restaurants, great beach and bars. A short drive to Skala which has all the usual tourist restaurants and a good High Street. Situated above Kaminia, which we think is the best beach on Kefalonia, soft and sandy and has nesting turtles. Will definitely return.

Beautiful, spacious villa with stunning views.

  • 5 of 5

Villa Valentina enjoys a remote, high up location, with stunning views of the rugged mountains, sea and beach, yet it is just a few minutes drive away from local amenities, the pretty village Katelios and the much busier and touristy town of Scala.

The villa is very spacious and very well presented and offers excellent facilities. A real feature is its outdoor space - a huge pool and outdoor area, with stunning views of the sea and Zakynthos Island. Outside are a variety of terraces, seating and dining areas, allowing everyone to really spread out.

We particularly enjoyed sandy Kaminia beach a few minutes drive away, so quiet and peaceful and Katelios village close by in the evenings - great waterfront restaurants and bars. Pleasantly busy very friendly offering delicious fresh fish. We hired a motor boat from Katelios one day and explored the remote beaches and enjoyed a sea kayaking expedition in and out of caves from Argostoli.

A memorable holiday made all the more special by having such a lovely villa to stay in.

Would advise having a car.

Owner's Response: Villa Valentina are English owners and always strive to improve the property and amenities to meet and exceed guests holiday experiences. The villa also offers hydrotherapy jets, a large pool, a great outdoor barbecue area, professional table tennis, satellite TV and Wifi and more. With so much to do on the island from horse-riding, water sports, boat hire, sailing, quad biking, off road 4 x 4 experiences, walking and other specialised activities, Kefalonia is still an island that has not been spoilt. A safe, family friendly island, it offers everything the holidaymaker would want and more which sees guests returning year on year.

Lovely villa with beautiful views

  • 4 of 5

A lovely villa, well designed perfect for both sun lovers and others who prefer to sit in the shade whilst both enjoying the fabulous views. Great facilities , very clean and well maintained. A good pool although take care when getting out as easy to slip on the surrounding tiles. Definitely need a car as easier to go to bakery, shops , restaurants and although you can walk down to a lovely, sandy beach at Kaminia it is not so easy to walk back up. Driving in and out of the drive can be a bit tricky but there is a mirror to help one way. We did a couple of boat trips from Skala, one to Ithaka and the second up to Fiskardo with both very enjoyable and could swim from the boat on way back. Also drove to Argostoli one morning to see the turtles which swim round the fishing boats on the quayside.

We had a very enjoyable time and would definitely recommend to friends.

Special interest holidays:

Watersports (parasailing, pedal boats, doughnuts), quad biking, off road safaris, hiking, cycling, 4 x 4 road trails, horse riding, donkey riding, cookery courses, mini cruises, glass bottom boats, coach trips, vineyards, wine tasting, local cuisine, caves, lakes, scrambling, touring, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, boating. Historical sites - Roman, Myceanean. Neighbouring islands: Ithaka.

A two minute drive or comfortable stroll takes you to the beautiful turtle beach of Kaminia within the Bay of Mounda. This is a beautiful unspoilt sandy beach with gentle shelving and is ideal for families as it has very safe bathing. Walking distance to Katelios and a short drive to the busier resort of Skala.

The island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world including Myrtos beach (famously shown in the film Captain Corelli), Agia Ifima, Skala to name but a few.

Kefalonia has its own airport, Argostoli which takes approx. 35 minutes to drive which is now serviced by budget airlines Ryanair, Easyjet, Flybe, Thomas Cook. The island also has two major sea ports of Sami and Poros which connect to the mainland of Greece. You can also island hop to the mythical island of Ithaca or if staying longer on the island why not visit the neighbouring island of Zante!

Car hire is not essential but recommended to take advantage of what the island has to offer.

Therre is a water taxi operating between Katelios, Skala and Poros in the main Season offering those without a car to visit the main neighbouring resorts.

200 metres to the nearest village of Ratzakli which hosts a modest cantina and shop.

Katelios is a 15 minute walk away, a few minutes by car and has mini market, butchers, fine fish restaurants, cocktail bars and beach. This is the place where you can also hire small motor boats for daily hire. Look out for the visiting Loggerhead Turtles!

Skala is a 5 minute drive away and has a high street with a good array of shops, mini markets, bakeries, fine restaurants some with evening entertainment, larger hotels, cocktail bars, on site watersports facility on beach.

Further Details:

Apart from the glorious coastline of Kefalonia, there are plenty of further tourist attractions for visitors to see, experience and enjoy.

The capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, located on the south-western coast, is a very lively spot and central to much of the island's action, being home to many quality attractions.

Visitors will also find plenty to see within the villages and resorts of Assos, Fiskardo and Sami, which each have something quite different to offer in the way of tourist attractions.

Many holiday makers on Kefalonia also like to sightsee whilst enjoying a leisurely glass-bottom cruise, taking a hike through the countryside. Alternatively, why not visit one of the many locations featured in the blockbuster movie, Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

The island is great for sports, especially biking, hiking, scrambling in the not so hot months and also of great interest for bird watching and seeing the beautiful flora and fauna in the Spring. The Spring months are the best months to walk, bike, horseride and see the wildlife and flowers.

Skala is beautiful and has several historical sites such as a fine mosaic floor which was part of a Roman villa and a temple which is currently being restored. You can also explore and look for the old amphitheatre above old Skala.

The capital of Kefalonia is Argostoli was devastated by the 1953 earthquake and very few original features remain. However, it has an attractive waterfront around the beautiful bay, which features a colourful fruit market, for farmers to sell their produce, good shops, restaurants, theatre and museum.

There are so many beautiful places to visit such as Assos, Fiskardo, Myrtos beach (renowned for being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world), the castle of St. George, St. Gerrasimos cathedral to name but a few.
