Former Smugglers Cottage In Yorkshire Seaside Village

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Cottage in Staithes, North Yorkshire Moors, Quiet Location, Good For Walkers, Dog Owners, Cyclists, And Fossil Hunters

Lynn Cottage is a delightful, former smuggler's cottage positioned in an ideal location, right in the heart of the fishing village of Staithes, on the Yorkshire Coast. It has an abundance of character and charm and has retained many original features including beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. Lynn Cottage has been furnished and decorated to a high standard and provides an excellent standard of accommodation to couples and families looking to enjoy this beautiful coastline. The warm, welcoming log burner is perfect for unwinding in front of after a busy day exploring. The area is a haven for keen walkers and dog owners with numerous pathways located close by. The best views of the village can be enjoyed from the famous Cleveland Way which runs down the Cliffside to the sea's edge and covers 110 miles passing through some beautiful resorts like Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby. The area is renowned for its fossil hunting and fishing and Staithes is one of the most photographed villages in Yorkshire and claims connections with Captain Cook, who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and is the setting for the new CBeebies children's series ‘Old Jack's Boat' with Bernard Cribbins. It also has a good selection of pubs, shops, tea rooms and an Art Gallery. Staithes is also well known for its group of Victorian artists and art classes which are still very popular today. The historic town of Whitby is only 10 miles away and is famous for its connections with Bram Stoker's book, Dracula and also its delicious fish and chips which you must sample whilst enjoying a great day out with the family. The cobbled streets lead to a sandy little cove and cliff top walks afford stunning views. Whitby is a short drive from the holiday home, as is Goathland, Heartbeat's very own village. Shops and pubs 100 yards.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say we had an absolutely lovely stay in the cottage. It felt like a real home from home and was fully equipped with everything we could have possibly wanted. I know the weather hasn't been that cold but we found the cottage really cosy and warm. I think I mentioned to you before, we've stayed in a few cottages in Staithes, but this is definitely our new favourite - it's really good value for money and will be great to bring the rest of the family to. Again thanks for making it an easy and enjoyable booking. I'm sure you'll hear from us again. All the best

Perfect for a cosy, family break

  • 5 of 5

Lynn Cottage is the best cottage we have stayed in in Staithes over a 4 year period! The cottage retains the character of old Staithes, but with all the benefits of modern living. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped, even to the point of cooking a New Year's Roast. The cottage is really cosy with a woodburning stove and night storage heaters and the thick walls mean it's also really peaceful. We had a restful New Year's break in one of our very favourite places. The lack of WIFI and phone signal actually turned into a blessing for us, and meant we spent quality family time. Dotty's tearoom has free WIFI, so a perfect excuse to grab a great coffee and a delicious cake. Best day was beachcombing with http://realstaithes.com/ which taught us lots of new stuff about a place we love. Will definitely return.

unforgettable experience

  • 5 of 5

Our Christmas holiday break was wonderful. The cottage had everything we needed as did Staithes itself. The decorated tree on arrival was icing on the cake. It was an 'at home' Christmas with us cooking each day and there was every utensil we needed in the cupboards for this and a reliable supermarket at the top of the bank. A few walks around Staithes but otherwise we didn't venture far. On this occasion the lack of a phone signal was heaven, although we did use the red phone box at the bottom of the bank a few times. Yes we'd come again and recommend the cottage to friends.

Lovely Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely spacious cottage in the heart of the village. It was a perfect getaway for the three of us (including a toddler - 23 mths). Everything we could possibly need for a toddler was provided, the owner was very accommodating. Would definitely recommend visits to Runswick Bay & Sandsend. Cleveland Corner bistro is also recommended .. we had a delicious meal on our last night. Wish we'd had a longer stay!

Location

From the Owner

We bought this cottage as an alternative to campervan holidays as we have a toddler and it's not possible to get a travel cot in the VW! I holidayed on the Yorkshire Coast as a child and have some fantastic memories that I'm hoping to pass onto my daughter and step-son.

Facilities

From the Owner

I love the fact that we don't need to drive once we're there. We love the beach, cycling, walking with our dog and nice country pubs. We can enjoy all of that without even getting in the car.
