The cottages are grade 2 listed and are set within the grounds of the Tillmouth Park Hotel. They are underfloor heated throughout by a ground source heat pump. There are beautiful communal gardens at the front and a large, private enclosed garden at the rear. The cottages are conveniently located between Berwick upon Tweed and Coldstream and are just 15 mins from the coast.
Really impressed with the facilities in both Grooms cottage and Jacks cottage. We are a large family and the cottage more than accommodated for us. The gardens were excellent, we took 3 spaniels with us and the cottage had plenty of space for their beds to be dotted about around the house. Our only downside was that we couldn't get the WIFI to work, however the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were lovely. there were plenty of cleaning products available too so it was easy to clear up after ourselves. I've stayed in a lot of English cottages and this one was one of the best.
I recently stayed here with family, 6 adults, 4 children and 1 dog. It was ideal, big garden, separate cottage (but linked) for grandparents and lots of space inside. Also in a really good location, lots of places to visit. The only problem we experienced was a foul smell in the master room ensuite. It was not possible to even use the bathroom, the smell was awful. We did text the owner but had no response (and still haven't!). In the evenings we could here some of the other inhabitants of the cottages running around in the loft space 🐀 and even found evidence of their smaller cousins behind a sofa!! When we were leaving we bumped in to the cleaners so explained about the smell in the ensuite. They immediately said was it the rats and they had been told they'd been dealt with. Such a shame, this would have been a perfect place to visit again and again were it not for a seemingly neglectful owner.
We visit the cottage in a group from the local photographic society and last year’s trip was, I think, our fifth. The situation is wonderful – set in the peaceful grounds of what is now a country hotel. Some of the best beaches in Britain, castles and beautiful countryside are all within easy reach, with the Scottish border nearby as an extra bonus.
It’s a good area for walking, but with lots for the naturalist and for the history buff too. One spectacular trip by boat from Seahouses – depending on the weather of course – is to the Farne Islands with their huge colonies of seabirds – and seals!
Over the years we have used the cottage as a base to explore Northumberland and every year we find somewhere new! The cottage itself is really well equipped, cosy and welcoming, with most of the bedrooms ensuite. It is warm and comfortable and a good place to relax in the evening, with books, dvds and board games all provided.
It has are good cooking facilities – but I must also mention the Collingham Arms in the nearby village of Cornhill which is a great place to eat, not to mention the village stores which are is a good place to stock up – or even have a coffee or a snack.
It says a lot for Grooms Cottage that we return year after year – and 10 of us have already booked our next stay later this year.
This was our second visit to this idyllic and dog friendly cottage. It's a real home-from-home, comfortably furnished with antiques and contemporary bathrooms - loved the baths. The fabulous underfloor heating is a real bonus, particularly as the Northumberland air can be a bit chilly in the evening. The considerate owners have thought of everything - from the lovely welcome pack of local produce to helpful tips on the local area as well as board games and DVDs for cosy nights around the log fire. The beautiful beaches of Embleton and Bamburgh are within easy reach and it's a short drive to Berwick and over the border into Scotland. Don't overlook the local area as there's much to see including the villages of Ford and Etal and some delightful walks. Definitely the place to stay if you want to chill out and unwind as there's no Wifi or mobile phone signal! We'll be back.
A beautiful property in a fantastic location which is really well equipped for a Fab stay. We really enjoyed both the property and its location close to some lovely country walks, places of historic interest and the wonderful Northumbrian coast. Sitting watching the wide variety of birds in the garden was also a treat. We would highly recommend a stay here and will return.
