Lovely Farmhouse In Laignes, Cote D'or, Burgundy near Champagne region

Updated: 20-Aug-2016
Farmhouse in Laignes, Montbard, Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France - Peaceful Location, All Amenities, Chatillon Sur Seine 15min, Marcenay Lake 5 Mins

This lovely North Burgundian farmhouse situated set back from a quiet road has recently been renovated and is now a large house on different levels. It is well equipped for a real 'Home from home feel'. There are beds for 7 people and a cot is available.

The property is entered by the ground floor kitchen which is well equipped with electric oven and hob, toaster, filter coffee maker, crockery, glasses. cooking utensils, table linen, tea towels, etc and has the original fireplace and Burgundy stone floor. There is a pine kitchen table to seat six to eight. Above, reached by a wooden staircase, is a family room. The family room is on two levels and is very light with whitewashed walls and original beams. A few wooden steps up from the kitchen is a lovely comfortable sitting room with a leather two seater sofa, two wingback chairs, wooden dining table and six dining chairs. It has a beautiful original wooden floor. There is a tv/dvd and cards, games, jigsaws etc. Also lots of leaflets about places to visit. Another step up leads to a hallway along to the shower room (all towels are included) and a single room with a day bed and curtain for privacy from the hallway. Then on to a small hallway with the large double bedroom going off and a door leading outside with stone steps down to the courtyard. The large courtyard is shared with the owners other holiday property but here is a private lawned garden for guests to use at the end of the courtyard up some stone steps (the other property has it's own garden). The house is well equipped with books, games, toys etc.

The washing machine, garden furniture and barbecue are found in the cellar. There are also various bikes which guests may use. Please bear in mind that as we are not in permanent residence we cannot necessarily keep the bikes well maintained though they are always checked when we visit. We advise that you bring your own cycling helmets.

The village centre is within easy walking distance and has a supermarket, bar, pharmacy, two boulangeries, wine shop, garage and a flower shop. There is also a new restaurant on the village square serving traditional Burgundian food. The set menu is priced at a very reasonable 12€50.

There are many places of interest to visit within a short distance. Marceney Lake with a small man made beach is only 5 mins away by car. Semur en Auxois is a lovely town to visit, also with a swimming Lake. Buffon tower and museum in Montbard which also has a TGV station and Fontenay Abbey is a short journey away from Montbard. There is the Roman Fort of Alessia with it's new visitor Centre at Lenarey les Laumes. The nearest cities to visit are Troyes 43 miles, Dijon 46 miles, Auxerre 45 miles. Paris is a 2.5 hour drive passing the historic chateau at Fontainebleau. Reims is 2 hours away by car. Being so close to the Champagne border there are two wine routes to follow. A visit to Les Ricey is well worth a visit for Champagne tasting and Chablis is less than an hours drive away. Cyclists will enjoy quiet roads and forest tracks. Chatillon sur Seine at 12km and Montbard at 18 km are the nearest towns to the property. Both towns have ample shopping facilities with major supermarket chains, they both have swimming pools. Wi'fi access is available locally.

We are sometimes on hand but we do not intrude. Our caretakers are very friendly and helpful, should you need help or directions, in our absence. All bedding, towels etc are included except cot bedding.

About the Owner

We live in Buckinghamshire. We have holidayed in France for many years. A few years ago we thought we might like to buy a property in France but it was only in 2008 after my husband had to have a heart bypass operation that we got serious about realising our dream. We bought the property in Laignes in October 2008 but work didn't start until spring of the following year. We have done most of the work ourselves except for some work converting a barn into more rooms and to have some double glazing fitted in the other property. We hope in the future to finish our other property on the same site and also to go on improving the this property that we hope you will want to book from us.

Relaxing break in Laignes Cote D'or, Burgundy

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely relaxing stay at this lovely farmhouse in August 2014. The house is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The house is spacious with plenty room for small or large parties. The kitchen is very well equipped for any indoor cooking you may do. The outside area is spacious and private and very pretty with lots of flowers and plants and ideal for outside eating. The friendly owners are around to welcome you and offer advice and directions but do not intrude at all on your stay. I would recommend this holiday let and would definitely stay here again.

Peace and tranquility

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here last July. The village is lovely, extremely peaceful and is a great base for exploring the rest of Burgundy and the surrounding areas. The cottage is charming and has been recently refurbished to a good standard. It was clean and well maintained. The owners are nearby and can offer practical help and advice if necessary but are not intrusive. Overall a perfectly delightful holiday and I would recommend it.

From the Owner

We had been to many regions in France and loved every one. We wanted to be fairly central without too long a journey from Calais or Dunkirk. We had been to Champagne and the Auvergne so we thought we would try in between, in Burgundy. We loved it immediately with all the forests, gently rolling hills and numerous lakes. Laignes is a quite a large village but where our home is situated is quiet and peaceful. You never have to travel very far to visit places of interest. The villagers and especially the neighbours are friendly and welcoming. There is quite often something going on in the village square ie fairs, book fairs, sometimes a concert.

Activity and Interests

The property is a long way from the coast but there are several lakes within easy travelling distance mostly with man made beaches. The nearest is Marcenay but there is one at Semur en Auxois and another at Lenarey les Laumes.

Car is essential.

There is a Spar supermarket on the edge of the village next to the garage. Close by is the Cremant route. Cremant is made in exactly the same way as champagne but in Burgundy. The Champagne region is within just a few miles. Chatillon sur Seine is the nearest town with supermarkets, speciality shops, cafes and restaurants.

From the Owner

We enjoy the peacefulness of the property. It's useful to have the shops within easy walking distance in case you decide not to go out for the day. It's nice to have a stroll around the village in the evening. The roads are quiet for cycling with the children.
