About Kate Kirsopp-Reed

I was born and brought up at Old Town Farm, which has been in our family for centuries now! Although I have lived and worked overseas, Otterburn is my home and I cannot imagine living anywhere else in the UK. My family also live on the farm, or nearby, so it is still very much a family concern.

I am Massage Therapist and a Freelance Gardener with a passion for outdoor life and activities.

Fabulous Spring getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Hemmel is a fabulous property, perfect for our small family of three (including our investigative 16 month old baby girl)! Kate was very welcoming and on-hand with any queries we had, whilst also giving us the privacy to relax. Whilst the weather wasn't as kind to us as we would have liked (and we're used to cold Lancashire rainy days!), the barn was always a comfortable temperature and the fire was great to relax next to on stormy evenings. The property provides well for those truly self-catering but is also within a reasonable distance of larger villages for top-up amenities and also access to key attractions, including Kielder Forest. A beautiful rural hideaway - highly recommended!

Fantastic approach to the property & real 'wow' factor. Outstanding accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

All of us (including the dog) were made to feel extremely welcome. The property is beautifully laid out & presented with thoughtful touches throughout. The bed was the most comfortable we've had to date in a holiday cottage. A fantastic space & location with views that even the awful weather couldn't spoil.

Brilliant Cottage - Dog Friendly andWell Equipped

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in the cottage – 4 adults and 2 dogs. It has all the amenities you would require and a ‘boot room’ for muddy shoes and wet coats which was really useful. Beds are comfy and the bathroom is amazing.

The enclosed garden space is brilliant and although hard to tell from the photos the fencing has a mesh over it so our dogs couldn’t escape. I can imagine in summer this would be a very well used addition to the cottage.

We also went to the ‘William De Percy’ restaurant in the village which I would recommend, lovely food.

Would love to return and will be recommending to others.

Warm & peaceful cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was warm and comfortable even though it was mid January. Really peaceful setting yet within reach of the coast, countryside, Kielder Water and Hadrian's Wall.

Great Holiday

  • 5 of 5

A well appointed property with all the home from home touches you could want. The property is well maintained and clean. The pictures do not do the setting justice, it has amazing views. We arrived to flowers and home made cakes on the table. The owner is friendly and very helpful and nothing is to much trouble. We found it a great base for visiting many National Trust properties, Keilder, Newcastle and the North East coast. Our nine year old son enjoyed the holiday destination and property so much that he didn't want to leave. The destination and property is ideal for families and couples for short or long stays, we would definitely recommend it. We all enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again for next year.

Home from home with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

The Hemmel is a home from home with amazing views. Modern, clean, fully equipped, fabulous location for us for a wedding, biking around Kielder, lovely local walks and family so it ticked all our boxes and much more. Kate the owner was amazing and even checked in on our four legged family member while we were at the wedding!!! Simply wonderful and would highly recommend - we will be back.
