Farmhouses in Launceston, Cornwall, England - Peaceful Location Yet Near Main Roads For Easy Access To Beaches, Moors And Towns.

Cullacott is a Grade 1 listed medieval Hall House situated in peaceful countryside near the Devon and Cornwall border. It is situated in a cobbled courtyard on a small working farm which has been in the family for 5 generations and commands splendid panoramic views over the Ottery Valley. The restoration of the property jointly won the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors' National Building Conservation award for best restored house. Its sensitive restoration has ensured the house has preserved its basic simplicity and yet great care has been taken to provide every comfort for the visitor. There are two self-contained units, the Longhouse and the Tudor Wing, both with entrances onto the cobbled courtyard and with a large garden and sunny terrace overlooking the fields running down to the river.

Beautiful and unusual medieval holiday property in peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

The Longhouse at Cullacott is a beautiful and unusual holiday property. It maintains the original charm and features of a medieval house, including original artwork, beams, stone and wooden floors, and a quirky staircases. It combines these with modern amenities, making it a cosy and interesting place to stay. The Longhouse is surrounded by peace and tranquility as it is located in the countryside. The views from the garden of fields and rolling hills dotted with sheep is very lovely. It is a short drive into Launceston, which also has some interesting historical features. We would definitely stay here again.

Wow! Amazing place. Like staying in a castle or museum. Have to experience it!

Everyone of us from 7 months to 40s loved the place. Not quite designed for tall people with short door frames but not a complaint as I wouldn't change it because of the athentic feel. Just have to learn to duck :). Beautiful gardens. We hired the two cottages together and really enjoyed getting the full experience you wouldn't get with just one. Each room is full of character.

Fantastic step back in time

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is a true oldy worldy place but with modern day comforts. The views are amazing and the history is really interesting. Stairs are a bit of a challenge. You definitely need a car.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, the building is unique and the stairs themselves are fascinating but not suitable for anyone who is disabled. One flight of stairs is historically known as 'trip' or 'burglar' stairs. The risers are of different heights and depths and are designed to trip any unauthorised person up when using them so alerting their presence to the household. They are medieval security!! Not many properties can boast this.
