About the property

Barn in Llandderfel, Nr. Bala, Snowdonia National Park, North Wales - Peaceful And Quiet Location On The Edge Of The Snowdonian National Park, 7miles Bala, 23 Llangollen

Tyn-y-fron Holiday Cottage

Tyn-y-fron is a place to remember and return to.

A cosy and sympathetic Barn Conversion with views over the Dee Valley and the hills beyond.

Set on a hillside above the River Dee in the Vale of Ederynion, the eastern gateway to Snowdonia National Park, this little cottage, comfortably furnished, has been converted from an ancient barn to a quiet and warm retreat to unwind from the world.

Everything you could wish for. Cosy, warm and welcoming.

Lovely lounge with wonderful outlook over the distant mountains and amazingly quiet.

Fully equipped modern galley kitchen and bathroom.

Access to bedroom by spiral stairs.

From the roof light in the bedroom you can see for miles into the valley and the hills beyond.

However you like it. It doesn’t really matter what you like to do on your holidays.

Tyn-y-fron wraps itself around you like a warm blanket and lets you be yourself.

Laze away your days with a bottle of wine either on the sheltered veranda or tucked up by the lounge window losing yourself in the view.

Watch the mountains, the sheep, the sky. Feel the silence.

Maybe you prefer to put on your boots and walk the amazing hills, or go sailing on Bala Lake, or maybe white water rafting just for the fun of it. Or hire a mountain bike and see how fit you are. Maybe walk your dogs along the lakeside.

Some people bring their instruments and play away the week. After all there is no-one for you to disturb. Some catch up on the books they have been promising themselves for ever.

It doesn’t matter what you do, Tyn-y-fron will look after you when you are at rest and welcome you back after a days adventure.

Our visitor book is testimony to the magic that this little cottage seems to have.

We have had engagements here, marriages, honeymoons, birthdays and even first baby announcements. On one memorable occasion we nearly had the first baby!!!

Come to Tyn-y-fron and share the magic. We can guarantee that you will want to return.

Now Winter is just around the corner, how about considering a short Winter break or week. And don't forget Christmas. We are open all year so a quiet Christmas on a Welsh hill might be just what you need!!!!

About Dee and Peter Smith

Peter and Dee Smith.

We moved to Wales in 1996.

We started off as smallholders but decided simply to share our lovely location with others.

The Holiday Cottage was an old Barn when we moved in containing nothing more than a vintage Rolls Royce which was worth more than the cottage itself. Sadly the previous owners moved it before we arrived.

We have a couple of dogs, an old Jack Russell called Bod and a middle aged Lurcher called Lucy.

Bod potters around all day but Lucy is always supervised as she has a taste for my chickens!

At present we have three cats and our fields are full of ewes and lambs and cattle. These change with the seasons.

The Barn has been a holiday cottage for seven years now and we look forward to many more lovely guests arriving in the future

The main cottage at Tyn-y-fron recently featured on BBC Wales Coming Home as the former home of the great grandfather of Welsh Athlete Iwan Thomas.

Guestbook comments from the manager

“Breathtaking scenery, friendly owners, lovely warm cottage, overall fantastic!”

Reviewed March 30, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

Came here as a couple for our anniversary, and was more than pleased. The scenery was lovely, we walked to a pub for dinner one night which took about 20 minutes to half an hour, and popped into the nearest town one day which was about an hour walk, but it didn't feel that long with all the lovely scenery to look at! The owners are lovely, they came and introduced themselves, then they let you get on with your trip but are there if you need anything. We loved the cottage and didn't want to leave! And loved the warm bathroom it was definitely a plus!! We had such a lovely, quite, peaceful trip and will definitely be coming back again for longer in the summer! Would recommend to anyone!

we only came for a few days but wish we were here longer

A beautiful home in a wonderful area of the world. I would recommend it to anyone!

  • 5 of 5

Even though the photos are beautiful they still can't quite do justice to the breadth and charm of the landscape. The porch area is just fantastic, meaning you can sit and enjoy the view regardless of the weather. There are excellent walks and jogging paths just above the barn, on a beautiful forested hill, where you can run for hours if you like. Dee and Peter, the hosts, were fantastic - very friendly and helpful. It was such a refreshing trip and I would love to go back.

Great views, heavenly tranquility en very nice hosts.

This cottage was a perfect hit; the location is great and from this spot one can cover the whole of north Wales, the views are stunning, it's quiet (there's just the wind and the birds) and Dee & Peter are very nice people who make you feel at home.

The cottage is quaint. Though it is soberly furnished, it's comfortable with a bath (no shower) and is was nice to have our breakfast and diner at the attached porch overlooking te valley.

When we visit Wales again (and we most certainly will), we intent to stay here again.
