Flat 5 Seabirds House

Flat 5 is a ground floor extension at the back of the main house, so it doesn't have a sea view. But the location is great - just 5 minutes or less down to the beaches, harbour and shops. It's a steep hill so coming back takes a bit longer - not suitable for people with mobility problems.

The flat is cosy, compact and cheerful - ideal for a single person or a couple. It's our most economical option.

There’s TV with Freeview, a DVD player, and broadband internet access.

The kitchen, which is well equipped with gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven, toaster and kettle.

Short breaks – minimum 3 nights - are available at quieter times, or at the last moment, just ask. Our garage can be hired when it's available.

About the property

Flats 2, 3 & 5 Seabirds House

Seabirds House is a large Edwardian sea-captain's house with a very commanding position overlooking St Ives and the sea in all directions.

This listing is for the 3 one bedroom flats in the house - numbers 2,3 and 5.

The views from Flat 2 are superb - it’s almost unique in St Ives to be able to see both the crashing waves on the Porthmeor surf beach, and the sheltered harbour beach.

Flat 3 has a lovely view of the harbour.

Flat 5 has no sea view but shares the great central location and is a cosy, economical choice.

Godrevy Terrace is quiet with very little passing traffic - you'll only hear the wind, the seagulls and the sea itself. Yet it's 2 or 3 minutes down the hill to the lively heart of this bustling little holiday town, and equally quick to get to the 3 main beaches. It takes a little longer to walk back up the very steep hill - and Seabirds is not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The flats are bright and modern, comfortable and convenient with everything you need for a holiday, but we don't claim to provide "luxury" accommodation and we don't have dishwashers or very posh kitchens so our prices are reasonable.

There’s a garage that can be hired by anyone staying in one of our flats. Garage access is awkward, so enquire and I will explain.

We also have 2 two bedroom flats in Seabirds House, which are on a separate listing - 8145290.

And a small separate one bed flat 100 yards away - our Barnoon Flat - listing 8151990.

About Mary Brown

Hello! We are Mary and Henry Brown, the owners.

We live in London and have a wonderful team of people in St Ives who help us to take care of Barnoon and Seabirds House. Henry looks after any issues with the building, and I manage the bookings. I really enjoy the contact with our guests - many regulars feel like friends even when all the contact has been by email.

Apart from St Ives and family, our main interest is sailing - in a dinghy on the Thames and a bigger boat on the sea.

Mary Brown purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Mary Brown chose St Ives

In 1998 we bought a little flat in Barnoon Terrace, having fallen in love with St Ives, and the view. We let it as well as using it ourselves from the start.

Then we saw another property just up the hill which was in a very sorry state indeed. We bought it and had the inside completely rebuilt, turning the original 7 flatlets into the 5 lovely flats of Seabirds House, taking full advantage of the position.

The position is great - less than 5 minutes down to Porthmeor beach or the harbour, or the shops of the pretty little town.

The location of the flat was perfect, the interior of the flat was ok but didn't live up to my expectations.

It was quite comfortable and well placed, though you have a steep hill to climb up to the apartment. It was very clean though I feel the bathroom & shower needs a refurb (grouting replaced) and the toaster, frying pan & tin opener needs replacing also the handle on one of the pans is very loose. Trivial things perhaps but I feel important. We accidentley left some things in one of the cupboards when we left, but after a phone call to the cleaning agency (Brian Bruce) he very kindly posted them on to us straight away for which we were very grateful. We would certainly like to go back again in the future.

A 4 minute walk takes you down to the beautiful sandy expanse of Porthmeor surf beach. There's a surf school, surf board and wetsuit hire and a good cafe. The St Ives Tate Gallery overlooks the beach. From there you can walk across or around the headland known as "the Island" to Porthgwidden beach. Less than 5 minutes in the other direction and you are at the picturesque harbour, with its lovely clean sandy beach at low tide. It's a steep climb back up, so that may take you longer!

St Ives can be reached easily by train. Many mainline trains from London stop at St Erth from where there is a charming little branch line along the coast to St Ives with a frequent service. It's a spectacular way to approach the town! Seabirds is a 15 minute walk from the station or there are plenty of local taxis.

There is a small airport at Newquay, 30 miles away.

From west of London, including Heathrow, it is a 5-6 hour drive.
