Cottage in village location with lovely views to the Hambleton Hills and White H

Overview

Property

Updated: 04-Dec-2016
Cottage in Husthwaite, Nr. Easingwold, Yorkshire, England - 17 miles from city of York in rural location within easy reach of many attractions.

Located in the quiet village of Husthwaite offering accommodation for 6 people in 3 ensuite double bedrooms. Lovely views of the Hambleton Hills. Within easy access of the North Yorkshire Moors, The Wolds, East Coast and Yorkshire Dales. There is parking for one car on the driveway and street parking. A large, well equipped fitted dining kitchen on the ground floor, with patio doors to a paved terrace area. Upstairs is a large landing with a desk and seating, a large sitting room with tv and an electric stove and comfortable seating, with lovely views to the White Horse on the Hambleton Hills. All three bedrooms have double beds and ensuite bathrooms. Easingwold is the nearest small town (about 3 miles away) with plenty of shops, cafes, pubs, banks etc. There are many good pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area for those in need of a rest from cooking. The village pub is currently under renovation but should be open by Christmas 2016. Please note that the rear patio is enclosed and gated, but there is a pond in the garden beyond, so small children and pets will need supervising at all times.

About the Owner

I bought and converted the property in 2012. It was originally a Wesleyan Church Hall and is located next to my home - so I am always available to help visitors if needed.

Lovely, all we had expected and more

  • 5 of 5

This property was as good as the description and even better.

The directions were very clear and we were given a warm welcome by Yasmina. Teapot and snacks awaited us on the kitchen table. Yasmina is the ideal owner - providing information and near at hand when needed but not intrusive.

This property is a really good conversion - a feeling of spaciousness and light (particularly on the upper floor). All furnishings are of a high standard with very comfortable seating and beds. The kitchen was well equipped but there was also cupboard space for our food etc. The upstairs lounge was lovely to relax in at the end of a busy day. Having three ensuite bedrooms was ideal to accommodate our two adult relatives who joined for some of the week. Everywhere was clean and tidy, we were able to settle in immediately.

There was plenty of information on the area in the cottage. We only scratched the surface of possible activities, there was so much within easy reach. We walked to the neighbouring village of Coxwold (really picturesque) and would recommend the beef rolls at the Fauconberg Arms there. We enjoyed sunny days in both Whitby and Scarborough - the journey over the moors to Whitby is a lovely way to approach and both were easy trips. Kilburn was well worth the visit - the "Mouseman" musem and workshops are really interesting, the cafe there sells good quality lunches and the walk on the ridge above the White Horse was well worth the climb. We enjoyed the "foodie" delights and castle at Helmsley, another lovely, larger, village. Courtesy of the local knowledge of relatives, we finished this day off with afternoon tea at Ampleforth College. The tea was really good value with "proper" sized sandwiches! Finally, a wet afternoon was spent discovering only a little of all that York has to offer - an easy journey from Husthwaite.

We would not hesitate to recommend this property and hope we might be able to visit again.

Great place to stay - Remote and Roomy

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our 7 night stay in Husthwaite, the property is very well equipped and spacious. We found the location to be ideal, as close to York and only an hours drive to the coast. If you are seeking somewhere quiet to relax and explore Yorkshire, then Colton Loft is an excellent choice.

Colton Loft July 2nd-9th 2016

  • 5 of 5

The description of the cottage was accurate just as we expected with 3 en-suite bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen dinner and a lounge upstairs. The property was clean and well presented with tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival. The owner who lived next door came and introduced herself and said that if we had any problems just go round and speak to her. We would recommend the property to relatives and friends as the location was also ideal for many attractions. As keen gardeners and members of the RHS and National Trust we found plenty to occupy our stay and will probably revisit the area again as we hadn't completed our itinerary. A local restaurant was recommended to us by the owner (Durham Ox at Crayke) for an evening meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. The overall stay was very enjoyable and even the weather held.

Lovely cottage and village location

  • 4 of 5

Very well equipped and maintained, the cottage was a perfect location for a family wedding at the Church and then at the Hideaway further down the road. The garden was particularly beautiful and we hope to return for another stay.

Enjoyable stay in Colton Loft

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was well presented and very comfortable for six people. Village park is a real bonus for both younger and older with the gym area! Area is outstanding, lots of walks nearby, Helmsley is well worth a visit and York was easy to reach via the Park and Ride from Rawcliffe Bar. We also enjoyed Ampleforth Abbey and the walk to the woods and lake. Yasmina was welcoming and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend a holiday in Colton Loft, we hope to return.

Location

From the Owner

I bought the property because it is in the village where I have lived for 25 years and is in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire. The village is quiet and peaceful but within easy reach of many interesting areas and places to visit. We are surrounded by lovely countryside and the view from the cottage is towards the Hambleton Hills and the White Horse at Kilburn.
