Barn in Great Asby, Appleby. Fantastic romantic getaway.

Turnip House is a traditional stone built Cumbrian Bank Barn converted to the highest standard and finish. True luxury for a romantic weekend break or relaxing holiday. A multitude of interesting walks from the door and a traditional pub five minutes away in the centre of the village. A real away from it all cottage with every facility you'd need for the perfect break, iPod docking station for your music, free 20Mb broadband, slipper bath, double power shower, under floor heating in the bathroom. The bedroom features a slipper bath, oak is the timber of choice and the exposed oak floors enhance the contemporary interior design. Visitors return time and time again, some using it as their 'special place' for a honeymoon. Ideally located to visit all of the norths natural wonders, The Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Northern Pennines as well as The Roman Wall, Durham Cathedral, Bowes Museum, York Minster.

Dogs are welcome, max 2 dogs allowed (to be from the same household). £5.00 per night per dog.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The cottage is suitable for a couple with a baby in a cot, high chair, cot, stair gate all available. Outside: The barn is set in an old apple orchard which is across a grass paddock. Both have tables and chairs, stunning view across the village below with High Cup Nick in the Pennines prominent. Free range chickens wander around the grounds, red squirrels run along the walls and up the apple trees. The area is noted for its rare flowers and unique limestone pavement, wonderful quiet walks with so many interesting feature can be taken from your door. The local pub is 5 minutes walk serving cask conditioned ales, there are some wonderful local restaurants that will not hurt your pocket! Utility Room: Bike storage and freezer in separate barn. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Egyptian cotton towels and bed linen provided, bath mats changed with every rental. Fresh flowers on arrival.

Cosy cottage perfect for dog walking

Fantastic place to stay, very cosy, would highly recommend this to everyone. Lovely area, plenty of walks. The cottage was very clean and has everything you need, the owners are very friendly and helpful giving us a list of dog friendly pubs in the area. We had a perfect few days away and will defiantly stay at the Turnip House again if we return to the area.

Cosy, modern & beautifully presented cottage

Steve met us on arrival & told us about afew local pubs to eat that night, such a lovely friendly guy. The cottage is decorated to a high standard, with bathroom & kitchen being modern. The place has everything you would need, a 'home from home'. We had out 8month old with us & cot, high chair & safety gate were all provided for us which was a great help as we had so much to bring along already! Thank you for a great, relaxing place to stay.

We Didn't Want to Leave!

Perfect cottage, beautiful area, fantastic hosts, the lakes & walks are amazing. We absolutely loved our stay here, we didn't want to leave!

I'd highly recommend a stay at Turnip House, its a wonderful couples retreat.

The only point I would make it that our sat nav took us down a dirt track that nearly took the bottom of my car off, the owner also informed us this had happened to others as well. BEWARE!

Romantische Cottage

Wil je een romantisch weekend weg naar 'the Lakes' en een cottage huren? Dan is the Turnip House precies wat je zoekt. Het is een beetje afgelegen in een klein dorpje, omgeven door mooi natuur, maar zeker niet ver weg van the Lake district. Het is juist fijn om buiten de (eventuele) drukte te verblijven. De cottage is super mooi ingericht, het voelt echt aan als je eigen huis. Zeer ruim, maar met een knus indruk en je kan lekker chillen voor de open haard. De eigenaren hebben overal aan gedacht tijdens het inrichten, het is erg stijlvol en ontzettend schoon. Boven is de mooie slaapkamer met een luxe badkamer. Steve heeft ons warm onthaald en vele tips gegeven voor uitstapjes. Op de site staat dat je bij hun brandhout kan kopen, hier hebben we om gevraagd en werden vriendelijk uitgelachen omdat het augustus was! Echter toen we thuis kwamen s'avonds, lag er een emmer brandhout voor de deur en konden we de open haard aansteken.. samenvattend een erg romantische cottage! :)

Location

Travel:

Newcastle, Manchester and Carlisle are the closest airports. Excellent rail communications via the main west coast line. Appleby sits on the world famous Carlisle - Settle railway. Road access from the M6 junction 38 is 15 minutes away, providing a gateway to Scotland, the A66 trans Pennine road again 15 minutes drive away allowing easy access to the east coast for visits to Durham, Newcastle and York.

Distances:

The cottages are five minutes walk from the centre of the village, where you'll find the school, church and pub.

Further Details:

Appleby 10 - 15 minutes in the car is the former county town of Westmorland. A picturesque historic market town with castle, cloisters, Moot Hall, alms houses and ancient buildings. Local shops provide all that one needs in terms of fresh produce, the butcher sells local reared meats, Appleby boasts its own wonderful cheese company, bread is provided by Appleby bakery. Two small late opening supermarkets are available for any last minute items. Chinese, Indian and Thai take-a-way meals are available along with pizza.
