Large 1 bedroom duplex apartment in Sainte Foy Station. Sleeps 2-4

Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Ideally suited to couples or young families. Flexible peak week holidays

A large, beautifully renovated 1 bedroom apartment in an old farmhouse spread over 2 floors. At 70sqm Chalet Susie is as large as some 3 bedroom apartments.

Xmas 2016 is available from Saturday December 17 to Tuesday December 27. For clients who wish to extend their stay beyond the normal 7 days we can offer a discounted rate for the additional days. Guests wishing to start skiing on Saturday December 17 may check in on Friday December 16 at no additional cost.

Situated in the old hamlet of Bataillette on the northerly edge of Sainte Foy Station the lifts are a short walk or a 30 second shuttle ride away. The shuttle runs a small loop from the Eco Le Ruitor hotel (just a few seconds walk from the front door of the apartment) to the ESF meeting point. In terms of convenience access to the slopes is only bettered by a genuine ski-in/ski-out property.

The property was fully renovated in 2014 in a traditional style by local craftsmen using high quality materials and features underfloor heating. The interior is completed with a Nero Victorio antique limestone floor and an extremely comfortable Chesterfield suite.

Whilst the apartment is comfortably large enough to accommodate 4 adults using the Chesterfield sofa bed in the living area we have designed it to primarily appeal to couples or young families who might otherwise find themselves having to rent a two bedroom apartment and compromise on the available living space.

The front door opens to a garden area with beautiful and extensive views of the Tarentaise valley.

The Winter season:

Contact us if you are interested in a long term stay. We can offer discounts outside the peak periods of Xmas, New Year and the UK half term.

We operate a Sunday changeover for most of the Winter season. This offers clients the dual benefits of travelling to and from the resort when the roads are quiet (the main changeover day in the wider area is Saturday and traffic can be extremely heavy, especially during the peak weeks) and being able to enjoy a Saturday on the slopes as the final day of their holiday (as most people are either leaving or arriving on a Saturday the slopes are generally very quiet on a Saturday).

Outside the ski season:

We can offer discounted deals on extended stays of 4 weeks or more. Contact us for more information as it is not always possible to reflect these discounts in the listed prices.

Chalet Susie offers great walking, hiking and mountain biking opportunities direct from the front door and is superbly located for exploring the wider Haute Tarentaise and Savoie area with its rich and varied history.

The resort itself shares a 25km border with Italy and several historic fortifications are within an easy drive. These include the Fort de la Platte, Fort du Truc and Fort de la Redoute Ruinee.

There are several nature reserves in the area with the Réserve Naturelle des Hauts de Villaroger being a 15 minute drive away. Please be aware that this area serves as a refuge of the Tetras-Lyre and can only be accessed with an approved guide.

The apartment contains several maps and books detailing local walks for all levels of fitness. The walk to the hamlet of Le Monal is easily achievable whilst the return hike to Lac Noir is likely to take most of the day but is well worth the effort. June is a particularly colourful month as the meadow flowers are in full bloom.

The resort's Grand Plan lift opens for foot passengers and mountain bikers during the Summer holiday period. Opening times for Summer 2015 are Sunday to Friday 10:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 16:00.

About the Owner

Lee first discovered Sainte Foy in 2007 and was taken in by the uniqueness of the resort holidaying their regularly. He introduced Rhiannon to the resort a few years later and it had the same effect. In 2012 they bought a 4-story house in an old farm building on the edge of the resort. The property has been professionally renovated using local craftsmen and traditional materials and now consists of 2 very comfortable duplex apartments. We plan to rent the larger of the 2 apartments - Chalet de l'Ours - on an ongoing basis, while making the smaller apartment our permanent home when circumstances permit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Lee

Yes my wife and I were very pleased with the chalet. Everything was fine for us and it was nice being self contained. We had breakfast in our chalet and when we didn't eat out in restaurants we joined Colin etc for the evening.

Our chalet was nice and warm and we had plenty of room. It would be ideal for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. Parking was good and we went out and about as we do not ski. We would not hesitate to use Chalet Susie again if Paul & Donna were going again at a similar time of year.

Kind regards

Philip

Luxurious and perfectly formed

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in this property over a number of weeks, I can honestly say that a couple or a small family would want for nothing in this beautifully appointed chalet. With the sofa bed in the living room, it was an ideal space for 4 people over a busy week of skiing, and the with the worlds biggest bed upstairs you could almost forget that anyone else is with you!

At every turn there is a little touch which makes Susie a home from home; we particularly appreciated the washer dryer which eradicated the usual dramas surrounding wet ski gear! The dishwasher was also a welcome addition, and with seemingly endless hot water from the shower there was plenty to go around everyone.

Having stayed in many chalets around Sainte Foy, I have to say that if you are looking to stay self-catered but want the luxury of a catered Chalet, this is the perfect place for any couple or small family.

Nice apartment in Sainte Foy Station

  • 4 of 5

Very pleasant stay for a week in Sainte Foy apartment. Good communications when booking and apartment is well equipped and very comfortable. Sainte Foy is very quiet, almost empty at this time of year but it was great for a peaceful week.

Wonderfully Snug

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Susie was a delight to stay in. Ski-in access to under 100m by piste and <25m gnarly off-piste. The navette to the first chair lift was too easy and just always there, virtually no waiting time at all. The kitchen is well appointed with more than enough space to prepare hefty meals. The furnishings are excellent and very comfortable after a hard days riding with the downstairs sofa bed providing a great nights sleep (I'm not small) - no piste bashers beeping throughout the night here! A little limited privacy for those on the sofa bed, but really not much of a concern. First time in Sainte Foy for me and the resort has something for all, a couple of gentle blues through to some extreme off-piste. Hugely recommended all round and I will definitely be back.

Lovely week

  • 5 of 5

This is a great compact smart-looking newly-renovated apartment, right by the slopes. Most perfect for a couple (unless you're REALLY tall - it's in an old converted farmhouse) but you could fit in some kids if you had too! You're in the more picturesque bit of Sainte Foy station, there is a little bus that takes you to the chair lift in 30 second (or you could walk it in 5 mins max) and you have all the superb design (see pics) and necessary home comforts (wifi, huge bed, walk in shower, dual sinks etc) in the apartment. There is a very smart restaurant just over the road, other restaurants and bars (and a bakers/supermarket) within 5 mins walk and one of the ski runs ends pretty much behind the house. We've stayed here on our own and we've stayed with friends in the bigger apartment the owners have which is above Chalet Susie and both are great places. We're fairly new to ski-ing but already making use of the red runs whilst our friends (better skiers) found plenty to do going off piste in the resort. And both times we've stayed (Jan and March) the resort has seemed much more chilled and relaxed than others nearby such as Tignes or Val.....we've hardly ever queued for a chair lift, certainly for no more than a minute or two, and on some occasions we seem to have been the only people on the slope! There is also a really good ski-school in the village which is great for private lessons, and a few mountain side / ski-in/out places for where you can stop for lunch.

Apartamento bien equipado. Ideal para dos personas. Tranquilo y acogedor. Repetiremos.

  • 5 of 5

Location

From the Owner

Sainte Foy Tarentaise is a gorgeous little ski resort. In contrast to the its larger neighbours (Val d'Isere, Tignes and Paradiski are all within 20 minutes drive) there is a pronounced lack of large concrete buildings. It retains a lovely village atmosphere. The resort has only 4 lifts but queues are almost unheard of. The lack of crowds and relaxed atmosphere make Sainte Foy an ideal place for beginners or for families. However, the lifts also open up an incredible amount of off-piste terrain and this is the resort that local guides and instructors head for on their days off. The resort has some fantastic restaurants and there are a couple of small but lively bars in the central square but those looking for a party atmosphere will be better served elsewhere.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Black Diamond Lodge at 50 Metres Nearest Restaurant : Black Diamond Lodge at 50 Metres Nearest Ski : In resort - Sainte Foy Tarentaise

Travel:

By car Chambery airport is a 1.5 hours drive, Grenoble airport is a 2 hour drive and Geneva and Lyon are 2.5 hours drive. The train station in Bourg Saint Maurice is a 20 minute taxi journey away.

Further Details:

All the restaurants - whether on the slopes or in the resort - are excellent. The village of Sainte Foy Tarentaise is a 5 minute drive from the resort and has 2 excellent restaurants in Le Monal and The Grange. It is advisable to book in advance for all restaurants.

There is limited shopping available in the resort although it is possible to obtain the basics, fresh vegetables and nice wines. Some may find this adequate for a week long holiday but for those who are more adventurous in the kitchen we recommend the supermarkets in Bourg Saint Maurice for a larger shop.

We highly recommend SnoCool for children's group lessons, private instruction or guiding throughout the Haute Tarentaise. They can even arrange a helicopter drop in Italy and can guide you back down to the village of Sainte Foy Tarentaise from where a free bus will return you to the resort.

Additional pricing information

Concierge & Cleaning £150
Refundable Damage Deposit £300

As we are not present in resort we must employ a cleaning service to clean and prepare the apartment. We apply this charge separately to each booking so that clients will only pay this fee once regardless of the length of the booking. During the winter we have set monthly prices to try and make 4 week bookings during the low- and mid-season periods more attractive. It is not possible enter prices in this way for the remainder of the winter season but we are open to discussing longer term lets - especially for periods outside the peak weeks of Xmas, New Year and the UK half term. Just drop us a note and let us know what you are looking for and we will see if we can help.

Facilities

From the Owner

Chalet Susie sits on the northerly edge of the resort in the old hamlet of La Bataillette yet the centre of the village and all amenities are only a 5 minute walk away. The apartment is part of an old traditional farmhouse and has been renovated to retain much of the charm of the original property. La Bataillette borders a national park and as such planning restrictions prevent further development to the north, but it is possible to ski to the front door through this area if you have basic off-piste skills.
