About this property

Le Moulin has its own lake and stream and is surrounded by woodland so we are in the middle of nature which is perfect for the fauna and flora; we are in a noted area for a large range of orchid species as well as many other beautiful rare plants and the sound of the hoopoe, king fisher and golden oriole is common while lazing in the garden.

Our one bedroom cottage is ideal for those wanting to get away from it all, yet enjoy all the comforts of a modern gite.
You can enjoy the peace and quiet here, where most of the time all you can hear is nature; the birds and the stream and sometimes the church bells. We are surrounded by woodland and it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, yet with the reassurance that within minutes you can be in a bar or restaurant in the village catching up on daily French life, while enjoying a coffee and croissant.
We run our small micro brewery (Perigord Beers) on site and invite our guests to see how we make our beer and if they wish to sample our artisan beers they are invited to a free tasting session. We've been operating for 3 years and our guests welcome the opportunity to experience this as part of their holiday but for those that aren't into beer it doesn't impact on their stay in the gite.

Peaceful haven in a picturesque setting

Beautiful, clean, well-equipped gite with kind, friendly, welcoming hosts. Set in a peaceful countryside area. Perfect for getting away from it all and just relaxing.

Heavenly stay

We had a fantastic time in France, the owners made us feel completely at home within their beautiful gite. Perfectly furnished with everything you would need whilst staying there. We were given local advice about the area and what to go and see. The gite is based in a lovely part of France and has instant walks straight from the front door. I wish I'd taken the dogs. The local village was also great, it had all the normal shops like a butcher, baker and cafe. To top it off there was a local lake that you could use. Perfect for the hot weather. It really was a fantastic stay and we will be next year to experience it again.

The delights of the Perigord

We had a fantastic week enjoying everything the area could offer. Val and Mike were very friendly, helpful and the gite offered us every comfort we could wish for. They kindly left us a comprehensive welcome pack. If you enjoy beautiful scenery, wildlife, pretty villages, chateau and plentiful markets this is the place for you.

We are the Povey family - Mike and Val and our daughter, Claudia.

We moved to France in 2005 in search of a new way of life. We believe in trying to be as self sufficient as practically possible, so have fresh produce from our potager for nearly all of the year and fresh eggs from our free range chickens. We also feel strongly about renewable energy sources, so our hot water is heated by solar and during the winter our heating and cooking system is fired by wood which is all managed on the property. As a last resort, we will use electric when the sun doesn't shine - so there is never a shortage of hot water !

Why they chose this property

After some time of searching for our dream home, we fell in love with the charm of Le Moulin de Mazieras and the surrounding area. We were searching for a tranquil location but not isolated and wanted to be close enough to a typical French village with shops and amenities. The countryside is beautiful and unspoilt and we are lucky enough to see flora and fauna here that has now become rare, if not almost extinct, in the UK.

You can enjoy the peace and quiet here, where most of the time all you can hear is nature; the birds and the stream and sometimes the church bells.
