House in Borth-y-Gest, Porthmadog, North Wales - Pets Welcome. Short Walk To Coastal Path And Unrestricted Beach

Llecyn is a well equipped self-catering property, newly decorated in seaside style and offering very comfortable self-catering accommodation for 4 people. Situated just back from the bay in an extremely quiet location, it has the added bonus of a very pretty and private garden which is completely enclosed on all sides for sunbathing, barbecuing or just sitting under a tree with a good book and listening to the birds! It is a very safe spot for dogs and children; there being an open green area beyond the garden gate across which it is a few minutes walk to the beach. There is allocated parking in the private car park adjacent to the houses, which is a real bonus in this small village and there is room to park two cars one behind the other. Porthmadog with its shops, restaurants, supermarkets and pubs can be reached on foot or by car and is approximately one mile away. There are several dog-friendly pubs and unrestricted beaches in the area. The tourist information centre in Porthmadog has details of the many attractions the area has to offer including National Trust properties ,the wonderful steam train journeys across Snowdonia and the unique Italianate village of Portmeirion. There are scenic walks with views of the coast and mountains to be enjoyed or why not try something more unusual like llama trekking or a visit to the slate caverns? Along the coast to either side it is possible to explore several seaside towns, each with their own character or to cross the Menai Straits and have a day out on Anglesey.

The Snowdon mountain range itself offers wonderful opportunities for some serious climbing. The world's first inland surfing lagoon, the spectacular 'Surf Snowdonia' is within easy reach, as is the world's fastest zip wire at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Indeed, for those enjoying outdoor activities, the Porthmadog area offers an all year round opportunity for mountain biking, horse-riding, quad biking, segway, carting, white water rafting, high ropes, gorge walking, underground climbing and all types of fishing.

Borth y Gest stands at the head of an area of outstanding natural beauty, namely the Llyn Peninsula with its rugged coastline and spectacular views across the sea and mountains. There are gorgeous unspoiled coves and beaches to explore such as Aberdaron, Llanbedrog and Porthdinllaen. The area attracts many varieties of sea-birds, and seals and dolphins can sometimes be spotted. There are boat trips available for those with a keen interest in wild life and there is an osprey nesting site just outside Porthamadog.

About the Owner

Hello

I am a retired teacher and my husband is a retired computer software designer. We live in the Midlands with our big black Briard, Lily.

For many years we have enjoyed visiting this area because there is so much to see and do and the people are very welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxing and 'laid-back' and quite dog friendly, which is important to us.

We particularly like Borth y Gest as being a beautiful unspoilt bay, yet within a mile of all the amenities of Porthmadog. We feel very privileged to have been able to buy a house here to use in our retirement and we hope you will enjoy sharing it with us.

A lovely holiday in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

A lovely dog friendly holiday home in a wonderful location. A 2 minute walk to the beach - and only 15 minute walk into Portmadog. If you like quiet, spectacular views and walking, this is the place for you! We couldn't fault the property - it was perfect. We even had a rain free week.

Owner's Response: So pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay in our little holiday home - how we wish we could 'lay on' good weather for every guest!! But we try to do our best to make people (and dogs) feel at home, so we're glad it suited you and thank you for taking the time out to give us a good review.

Smashing stay beside the seaside!

  • 5 of 5

If you dreamt of your ideal spot beside the seaside, this cosy house would be it! We cannot recommend this property more highly. Everything was spotlessly clean & beautifully decorated, with a fully equipped kitchen (even if all you can face is microwaving some potatoes). The location is fantastic, near to lovely stretches of coastline & also to Portmeirion. There are some great cafes & bistros a short stumble away in the village. The owners clearly take great pride in giving everybody a warm welcome. We will return!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for taking the time out to review our little house by the sea and we are so pleased to hear how much you liked it. We do try to make it feel like a 'home from home' and our housekeepers do a grand job to keep it looking nice. We have had it for three years now and every time we go we find a different place to visit or a new restaurant to try so never tire of it!!

Back again!

  • 5 of 5

Love this cottage, so comfortable & cosy. It's a well maintained cottage with a beautiful garden to relax in after, a busy day, visiting all the nearby towns/villages. Or just stay close with lovely walks along the headland or stroll down to the beach your 2 minutes away from either! Then drop in for a delicious ice cream at the Seaview cafe. Cook your own meal in a well equiped kitchen, visit the cafe or bistro in Borthy or choose from a wide variety of restaurants/pubs etc in nearby Porthmadoc. Looking forward to our next visit. Got to be 5*'s every time. Thank you Gill & Bill.

Wonderful place to stay - real home from home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weeks stay at the property. It is a lovely house- a real home from home. Lovely large rooms inside all tastefully decorated. I loved looking at all the plaques on the walls and the knickknacks that made it feel like a beach house. The house was very clean. I stayed with my husband, teenage daughter and 2 dogs (who had a wonderful time). Arriving to tea. coffee, sugar, milk and some welsh cakes was lovely. It was a couple of minute walk from the house down to the front, and another few minutes walk round to the lovely beach - a walk we did several evenings. We did have some rain, but the large collection of DVDs and games provided kept us entertained during showers. The Wifi was a very welcome addition as it allowed us to check the weather and plan days out.

We had a Chinese from Happy House Chop Suey in Porthmadog which was nice - although very busy and quite a long wait on a Saturday night. We also got fish and chips one night from the shop in Tremadog which was nice. We ate Sunday lunch at Tarfan Pencai café in Porthamdog harbour which was lovely and good value.

All in all a lovely week in a lovely house, and we definitely hope to return one day.

Thank you for the pics of Lottie and Lily having a good time as well - we always find the whole area to be dog-friendly. You would be most welcome to return some time in the future - repeat bookings always attract a little discount!

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special place to stay. Gill and Bill have made a lovely home here, not just a holiday let. They have decorated it with wonderful, tasteful, seaside décor and we felt very lucky to have found such a beautiful and peaceful place to spend our holiday week with Bailey, our dog. The house was lovely and clean on arrival with everything you might need to cook a meal if you feel so inclined.

We ate at the Moorings a couple of times and at the Thai Harbwr in Porthmadog which are both on our favourites list. Sometimes we had a snack in the Big Rock Cafe in Porthmadog, which is also dog friendly and we bought some of their lovely Rosemary bread to bring back and have later. We enjoyed a barbecue, sitting outside the house with twinkling lights on the tree and around the garden.

We did have the weather for it but that also meant that there were crowds of people in Borth-y-gest. It was lovely to be able to get away from it all after a walk on the coastal path and a paddle on the beach then come back to a peaceful place to sit and relax and enjoy the lovely outlook. The two parking spaces were an added bonus especially with Borth-y-gest being so full of bank holiday traffic.

This was our first visit to Llecyn but we loved it and we'll certainly be back. We've been visiting Borth-y-gest for several years now, usually in the off-season, but we haven't before stayed in a dog friendly property as nice as this one. Thank you again Gill and Bill for lending us your lovely seaside home.

A beautiful house in a great location - my two girls loved the quick and easy access to the beach and ice cream shop! A spotlessly clean and very comfortable property with lovely decor; also very dog friendly. Excellent communication with owners. Will be recommending to family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
