Overview

About the property

House in Borth-y-Gest, Porthmadog, North Wales - Pets Welcome. Short Walk To Coastal Path And Unrestricted Beach

Llecyn is a well equipped self-catering property, newly decorated in seaside style and offering very comfortable self-catering accommodation for 4 people. Situated just back from the bay in an extremely quiet location, it has the added bonus of a very pretty and private garden which is completely enclosed on all sides for sunbathing, barbecuing or just sitting under a tree with a good book and listening to the birds! It is a very safe spot for dogs and children; there being an open green area beyond the garden gate across which it is a few minutes walk to the beach. There is allocated parking in the private car park adjacent to the houses, which is a real bonus in this small village and there is room to park two cars one behind the other. Porthmadog with its shops, restaurants, supermarkets and pubs can be reached on foot or by car and is approximately one mile away. There are several dog-friendly pubs and unrestricted beaches in the area. The tourist information centre in Porthmadog has details of the many attractions the area has to offer including National Trust properties ,the wonderful steam train journeys across Snowdonia and the unique Italianate village of Portmeirion. There are scenic walks with views of the coast and mountains to be enjoyed or why not try something more unusual like llama trekking or a visit to the slate caverns? Along the coast to either side it is possible to explore several seaside towns, each with their own character or to cross the Menai Straits and have a day out on Anglesey.

The Snowdon mountain range itself offers wonderful opportunities for some serious climbing. The world's first inland surfing lagoon, the spectacular 'Surf Snowdonia' is within easy reach, as is the world's fastest zip wire at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Indeed, for those enjoying outdoor activities, the Porthmadog area offers an all year round opportunity for mountain biking, horse-riding, quad biking, segway, carting, white water rafting, high ropes, gorge walking, underground climbing and all types of fishing.

Borth y Gest stands at the head of an area of outstanding natural beauty, namely the Llyn Peninsula with its rugged coastline and spectacular views across the sea and mountains. There are gorgeous unspoiled coves and beaches to explore such as Aberdaron, Llanbedrog and Porthdinllaen. The area attracts many varieties of sea-birds, and seals and dolphins can sometimes be spotted. There are boat trips available for those with a keen interest in wild life and there is an osprey nesting site just outside Porthamadog.

About Gill McCrae

Hello

I am a retired teacher and my husband is a retired computer software designer. We live in the Midlands with our big black Briard, Lily.

For many years we have enjoyed visiting this area because there is so much to see and do and the people are very welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxing and 'laid-back' and quite dog friendly, which is important to us.

We particularly like Borth y Gest as being a beautiful unspoilt bay, yet within a mile of all the amenities of Porthmadog. We feel very privileged to have been able to buy a house here to use in our retirement and we hope you will enjoy sharing it with us.

Borth y Gest Gem

  • 5 of 5

Immaculately clean and well-maintained cottage with everything you’d need for a break in picturesque Borth y Gest. The welcome gifts were a surprise and very much appreciated! Our little Westie dog loved the cliff and beach walks. We would highly recomment this cottage and will be back to stay again.

Everything you could possibly need and more

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in Porthmadog several times over the years but always fancied something a little further out. This was the perfect find - coastal walks on the doorstep, warm and comforting in the cooler evenings and a paperback I'd been meaning to read for months. Very well-equipped kitchen and a freezer in the shed! What more can we say except that we'll be back again next year.

There are two licensed eateries in Borth y Gest, both with outside seating and beautiful views. The Moorings serves drinks, snacks and lunches during the day and has an excellent dinner menu in the evening. It is very popular at night so booking is advised. Dogs are welcome on the terrace. The Seaview serves delicious breakfasts, lunches and cakes and is open in the evenings for dinner at weekends in the high season. Well behaved dogs are welcome inside during the day and often given biscuits!

There is a large Spar and Fish and Chip shop about a mile or so on the main road between the village and Morfa Bychan. Porthmadog itself has a Tesco, Lidl and Aldi as well as an artisan bakery, butcher and greengrocer.

The Sportsman hotel has a very smart restaurant but it also welcomes dogs in the bar where you can have a meal, as does the Tafarn Pencei on the harbour. Spooners on the station is a very pleasant place to eat outside in the Summer and, again, you can sit there with a dog.

There are a good selection of independent shops, cafes,take-aways, pubs, banks, post office, library etc and a tourist information. Nearby Tremadog has a restaurant, good fish and chips and two pubs where you can eat in the bar or garden with your dog!

Two steam train routes run directly out of Porthmadog.

There is a golf course just over 1 mile away and a wealth of fishing, walking and climbing opportunities in the area.
