Chalet Clementine offers skiing luxury in Oz en Oisans part of Alpe d'Huez area.

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Chalet Clementine's offers Stunning views of the Belledonne Mountains in one of the best skiing, and hiking areas of the Alps. Free WiFi

The chalet is part of an exclusive development of 33 detached chalets tucked away in a quiet corner of Oz en Oisans, part of Alpe d'Huez ski resort, at 1350 metres. There is an entrance hall on the first floor with ski and boot rack and plenty of hooks to hang your coats. This leads to a large open plan room with fireplace. Two patio doors lead onto a balcony which we have extended to run around two sides of the chalet and offers a great space to sit, with wonderful uninterrupted mountain views. At the other end of the room is a large dining table seating 10. Round the corner there is a kitchen from which double patio doors provide another access to the extended balcony which has outdoor seating and a table which seats six comfortably and offers more wonderful views. On the ground floor are three bedrooms and from the lounge, steps lead to a fourth mezzanine bedroom, with restricted height at one end. The resort of Oz en Oisans, which is part of L'Alpe Duez Grande Domain is particularly suited to families, with most of the village pedestrianized and peaceful. The chalet is perfect for both winter and summer holidays. Oz en Oisans is a quiet resort, but with a fast ski lift connection to Alpe d'Huez and Vaujany offers great access and a huge ski area to explore. in the summer during July and august the resort of Oz en Oisans comes alive again providing a fantastic summer family experience.

About the Owner

About the owners

We are an English couple who have been skiing in and around Oz for over nine years.

We purchased Chalet Clementine in 2014 with the aim to provide our guests a luxury self catering chalet for them to relax and enjoy a comfortable stay in the resort, whilst enjoying all the outdoor activities Oz en Oisans and the surrounding area of Alpe d'Huez Grand domain have to offer.

We spend the winter and summer seasons in Oz, so we will normally be onsite to personally welcome our guests. When required we use the services of a local multilingual person to greet our guests out of season. This is the only rental property we own in France so it is very much a labour of love.

We have extensively upgraded the furnishings and kitchen in the summer of 2014, installed stairs to access the drag lift in 2015 and extended the balcony in 2016 and plan further improvements to the mezzanine area in 2017.

Wonderful Ski Break

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent our second week-long visit to Chalet Clementine and once again had a fabulous time. The location is perfect, right next to the drag lift giving us easy access to the whole ski area of Oz, Vaujany and Alpe D’Huez and the addition of the new steps up from the chalet certainly make it much easier to reach.

The chalet itself is very well maintained with everything that you could possible need to hand including a 3 good sized bedrooms along with the attic room, comfortable lounge and dining area and a well-stocked kitchen allowing us to eat in after a hard day out on the slopes.

Oz village is also very nice, with its car free main street and has a good supermarket along with a number of restaurants and bars.

The owners, Gary and Jan are on hand to deal with any issues that could possibly come up, like when we lost Internet access and Gary was immediately down to assist and waited in while the telecoms engineer came over to resolve. This meant that we could go out and enjoy the skiing rather than having to hang around with the engineer.

Overall, a great holiday in a wonderful chalet with attentive owners and a fantastic location. We will return again in 2017.

Another wonderful stay at Chalet Clementine

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Chalet Clementine and once again we had a wonderful time. The owners have made some changes recently adding steps closer to the chalet and an extension to the balcony which gives more room to sit outside. This may be predominately a winter destination but you are missing out on the spectacular summertime appeal of the mountains.

The cycling and walking was exceptional with plenty of local events to go and watch, the Alp d'Huez triathlon and MTB national series were on whilst we were there. We are already looking at returning next summer as we love it so much. We have no hesitation in recommending this chalet.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for a lovely review......as you know, we love the area as it offers so much for both winter and summer seasons. Yes, it is known for its skiing and winter sports but it now has so much more to offer during the summer and is growing in its activities and events for all age groups! We hope to provide an excellent standard for self catering accommodation and will strive to improve year on year. Hopefully, Jan will also be there to meet you next year.... We are looking forward to seeing you all again!

Lovely chalet with excellent hosts

  • 4 of 5

Just back from Oz-en-Oisans with my family (a party of 3 children under age of 11 & 4 adults)

Chalet is presented in very good, clean order, with all amenities that you could realistically expect. Our hosts made a conscious effort to keep in touch, well before arrival date, with a broad range of facts and info that helped us plan out our holiday in advance. On arrival day, they met us at the resort & Gary even assisted with unloading baggage, giving us a tour of essential places we'd need next day, all at a late hour of the evening. Thanks!

The chalet is rustic, comes with a lovely log burning fire, which we used on most nights. We just love the atmosphere that is created with a log fire, especially when up in the mountains.

Accommodation was ample for a party of our size, with one spare bed. Feedback on the mezzanine level at time of writing this, is that it's only sensible for adults of elder children, due to the steep incline of the stairs. I understand that the owners have plans to modify this feature, which would very much add to the safety aspect & usability of that extra sleeping area.

Kitchen is very good, with space to prepare your evening meal if you decide, like us, to eat in most nights. We also came back for lunch most ski days, & as the weather was pleasant, we sat outside on balcony. Not a huge factor for those who are generally fit & able, but the climb up from the chalet to the road, is one to take into consideration if you have small children. Walking down the metal grated steps in ski boots is a challenge for those not too steady on their feet, although the option of leaving skis/boots in your car close by (30 metres from steps) in the free underground carpark, is there for you. As a group of differing ages & abilities however, this proved a challenge for us. ESF ski school and meeting point for beginners is a bit of a hike away (all uphill), but this should not deter you from renting the chalet as the benefits outweigh this slight inconvenience. For those who are able to take a drag lift, the Clos de Pru poma lift is situated at the top of that small climb, and at very least, will get your heart beat going in the morning and blow away the cobwebs. Chalet Clementine is not quite 'door to door', although close to it though. Would recommend the resort and this chalet. Good access to Alpe D'Huez area and not too far from Grenoble. Thanks Jan and Gary!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave such an honest and detailed review. We are are so pleased you liked our chalet and service, which we will continue to invest in and improve on. We recognise navigating the pedestrian resort of Oz, which is built into the mountain, can be a challenge for some family members, wherever they choose to stay in the resort, and we do try to explain the various options available to guests as best we can. Thank you once again for choosing to stay in our chalet.

Confortable, bien équipé, décoré avec goût

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful Chalet, excellent service!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Chalet Clementine, right from the very start of the booking the owner was extremely helpful and excellent communication throughout. The chalet was beautifully presented, to a high standard and stocked with everything we could possibly need.

Thank you for a lovely holiday!

Owner's Response: Exactly the type of guests we are trying to attract. Enthusiastic, despite the worst snow conditions at resort level to the start of the seson we have seen for a number of years. Appreciative of the improvements we have made since taking ownership a year ago, respecting the chalet and leaving it immaculate. Perfect guests. Please come again.

Location

From the Owner

We have four children who love the outdoor life Oz en Oisans offers, whether it is winter sports or summer activities. The Oz / Alpe d'Heuze resort provide the perfect backdrop for a mountain holiday. Alpe d'Heuz is large enough to offer all the skiing terrain you need but Oz is small enough to retain a relaxing safe family atmosphere. Oz has a supermarket, restaurants, sports shops, bars, a heated indoor swimming pool and a spa area with whirlpool, sauna and steam room, a climbing wall and an outdoor ice-rink in the winter. Oz is a charming family resort nestled at 1350m in the heart of Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine Ski, Oz has all the charm and authenticity of a family resort. We hope you enjoy staying at our chalet as much as we do living in Oz.

Facilities

From the Owner

The property is located only 20m from the Clos du Pre drag lift, which can now be accessed by a short flight of steps, so it is a virtually ski in ski out location. It is close to the Ozzie bar and restaurant and only a short distance to the resort centre where you can find a supermarket, more bars, restaurants and shops. It is not suitable for the elderly or anybody with mobility restrictions, but is perfect for families who want to be based in a safe environment, offering stunning views and facilities to provide both a little apres ski and home family comfort. We allowed our children to spend most of their time on the baby slopes and toboggan run with minimal supervision both during the day and early evening. Vehicle access terminates at the edge of the village, so the resort is essentially pedestrian only.
