I recently stayed at the sail loft together with my little dog Daisy . I am delighted I chose this house .

The sail loft is v small but has everything you need .

The property is spotless and comfortable

I had read previous reviews re collection of the keys , I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to collect/ return them as I came by train to Bodmin parkway

I emailed Richard and he arranged to leave in a key safe.

In addition to the comfortable house

We were blessed with the weather.

The house has a parking space so if you have a car it’s very handy .

The green area was really good to let the dog run about.

I hope to return to the Sail loft

I’d like to thank Richard for his clear and friendly communication .

His recommendations re taxis and getting around was so appreciated.

Natural Retreats were also very easy to deal with.

A big thank you from us for allowing us to stay .

I hope the next people enjoy it as well

Great little pad, couldn't be any closer to the harbour

Had a great 5 night break in the Sail loft with wife and 2 dogs. Location is superb and excellent to nip out for evening drinks, albeit make sure you reserve a table if eating in village in school holidays. Access to the property is tight if in a 4 wheel drive especially being there was scaffolding up next to the Outlaw's Kitchen. Internet not working and no phone signal, which was great for me but wife not so happy. Would we go back.........yes loved it!

Great place to stay in Port Isaac

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here! These are the plus points for the Sail Loft. It is, as you say, very conveniently located in Port Isaac, aka Port Wenn. The cottage is rightly described as 'cosy,' i.e. small, but it it well furnished and equipped and has the advantage of car parking, which is a real bonus in Port Isaac. Access to coast walks is great. Port Isaac to Port Quin, via the coast path is demanding, but well worth the effort the scenery is superb. there is, a seasonal refreshment van in Port Quin. The return route, overland, is much easier! Tintagel is nearby, as is St Agnes, Chapel Porth, and the remains of the old tin mines. We had a great walk around Pentire Head today, which was stunning.

In our view, the only problem with Sail Loft is logistical. You have to pick up the key in Trebetherick, which is a 20 minute drive from Port Isaac. You also have to return the keys to Trebetherick, which means an extra 40 minute detour, there and then back towards your destination, which in our case is Manchester, a long drive without having to take the key back. Is there any way around this?

The only other problem was waste disposal. It was clear that the rubbish had to be placed in grey bags, but there was only one furnished for our use. However, I asked for another, and this was delivered today. (Wednesday). This was important, because the dustbin men only pick up bags labelled with their company logo. In talking to the bin men, they seemed to suggest that black bags were picked up on one day, and grey bags the next.(Another bin for the Manor House property was not emptied whilst we were staying at Sail Loft, possibly because the rubbish was in a black bag?) There is also conflicting information as to where the waste should be put. One leaflet suggested the edge of the property, Middle Street, the other Church Street.

Owner's Response: Dear Dudley, Thanks for your thoughtful feedback and glad you enjoyed the walks. The most enjoyable walk I have done is to take a 1053 bus from the top of the village to Rock, get off at the Rock garage and walk back via Rock, Daymer beach, Polzeath, Pentire Head, Lundy Bay etc- 5-6 hours but not too many steep hills. I agree with your points on the improvement areas. If you decide to return, we can arrange to have someone meet you at the property with the key. The rubbish problem is a big 'headache' at the moment. Despite the fact I pay council tax, the council has ruled that holiday makers must having special disposal bags for which they charge £5 a bag. There seems to be confusion at the council how to manage the refuse collection. We have the added problem, as you point out, that people who haven't paid for the bags are dumping their black bags in the Cory labelled bins for The Manor House and Sail Loft and other properties. Apparently, Port Isaac is an experiment with this new system. Best wishes, Richard Phelps

The property is compact, but has everything you need.

The only complaint I have is that it was cold in the downstairs. It was February, but if rented in the winter months it could use another radiator.

The building is otherwise perfect!

Owner's Response: Dear Lori, Thanks for your constructive comment on the need for another radiator during the Winter. I'm pleased to let you know that I have now installed an extra radiator for cold days. I do hope you will return again. Best wishes, Richard Phelps
