Great place to stay in Port Isaac

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here! These are the plus points for the Sail Loft. It is, as you say, very conveniently located in Port Isaac, aka Port Wenn. The cottage is rightly described as 'cosy,' i.e. small, but it it well furnished and equipped and has the advantage of car parking, which is a real bonus in Port Isaac. Access to coast walks is great. Port Isaac to Port Quin, via the coast path is demanding, but well worth the effort the scenery is superb. there is, a seasonal refreshment van in Port Quin. The return route, overland, is much easier! Tintagel is nearby, as is St Agnes, Chapel Porth, and the remains of the old tin mines. We had a great walk around Pentire Head today, which was stunning.

In our view, the only problem with Sail Loft is logistical. You have to pick up the key in Trebetherick, which is a 20 minute drive from Port Isaac. You also have to return the keys to Trebetherick, which means an extra 40 minute detour, there and then back towards your destination, which in our case is Manchester, a long drive without having to take the key back. Is there any way around this?

The only other problem was waste disposal. It was clear that the rubbish had to be placed in grey bags, but there was only one furnished for our use. However, I asked for another, and this was delivered today. (Wednesday). This was important, because the dustbin men only pick up bags labelled with their company logo. In talking to the bin men, they seemed to suggest that black bags were picked up on one day, and grey bags the next.(Another bin for the Manor House property was not emptied whilst we were staying at Sail Loft, possibly because the rubbish was in a black bag?) There is also conflicting information as to where the waste should be put. One leaflet suggested the edge of the property, Middle Street, the other Church Street.

The property is compact, but has everything you need.

The only complaint I have is that it was cold in the downstairs. It was February, but if rented in the winter months it could use another radiator.

The building is otherwise perfect!

Owner's Response: Lori, thanks for your helpful and constructive comment on the need for another radiator during the Winter. I have that 'in hand' and hope you decide to return one day. Best wishes, Richard

An idyllic Cornsh fishing village, just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The Loft- style apartment has been tastefully created in a building steeped in Cornish character in the perfect location of the fishing village. We felt immediately relaxed with views of the beautiful white-washed cottages and a colourful autumnal garden. The owner recommended walks , the highlights of which included seal spotting on the coastal paths and following the valley stream inland through the Cornish countryside. We can't wait to return!

Excellent Location for Exploring Port Isaac

  • 5 of 5

When we travel we always stay in self catering apartments. We shop and cook as if we were at home. Therefore a fully equipped kitchen is of prime importance. The only item that my husband would have liked would be a four cup drip coffee maker.

To be fair we found this amenity in only one of the seven accommodations we rented during our 25 day vacation in the UK. The kitchen is very well equipped.

The apartment was very clean and well furnished. The wall of windows provided light as well as good ventilation. There were flowers, wine and treats to greet us. Much appreciated!

We suggest leaving your luggage on the main level as the spiral stairs are difficult to negotiate with even a carryon size luggage.

Parking on location was a real find in Port Isaac where free parking is non existent. Driving through the narrow streets can be a challenge. Compact cars are preferable.

We are fans of the program "Doc Martin". Luckily they were filming one of the days during our visit.

We enjoyed our visit to Port Isaac and our stay in Sail Cottage.

The one drawback to this accommodation is that you must drive 20 minutes on very narrow roads to another town to pick and then drop off the keys on arrive and departure. We found this to be a real nuisance. Other accommodations we used in the UK had key safes on site which were much more convenient.

Because of the this key situation we would probably not return to Sail Cottage.
