Homestead, Lyme Regis is a cosy riverside cabin, 10 mins walk from the beach

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
Riverside cottage in Lyme Regis, Dorset - Peaceful location on the Wessex Ridgeway, With Terraced Garden And Sun Room Overlooking River

Overlooking the River Lym, Homestead is a wooden cabin built in 1915 and recently refurbished to a high standard. This cosy and comfortable home, retaining much of its original charm, provides a perfect base for holidays in Lyme Regis. Footpaths along the tranquil River Lym provide an attractive and easy walk to the seafront, shops, pubs and restaurants, or, heading upstream, walking routes in the beautiful surrounding countryside including the Wessex Ridgeway long distance route. The living room is cosy and comfortable, with a wood-burning stove. There is a sun room at the front of the property providing a lovely spot for relaxing, looking at the river, and watching the world go by. Off-road parking for a medium sized car is available on the property's driveway, and larger vehicles can be parked nearby. Parents of young children should note the terraced garden and proximity of the river. Friday changeover only. Sorry we do not take dogs. Our website www.HomeSteadLymeRegis.co.uk

About the Owner

We moved to Lyme Regis from rural Derbyshire in 2010 to be closer to family and the beautiful Dorset coast. Homestead is a family venture, owned by my mother and managed by myself and husband Ben with assistance from our three girls and various friends and family. This is an entirely new undertaking for our family and we are excited about sharing Homestead with visitors and giving more people the opportunity to visit this beautiful corner of the England.

Fantastic, clean & well located property

  • 5 of 5

Amazing house; well furnished; clean & tidy. Everything thought about! Lovely little bolt-hole, close to the centre of Lyme! Parking challenging.....but easy to leave the car for a week & potter! A real break from the Hurley-burley of every day life! The kids loved it too! Thanks Sheena & Fiona. We will be back! Xxx

Very good.

  • 5 of 5

This property is just as described, very clean and tidy, it is a lovely cottage in a lovely location.

If you want peace and quiet this is the place for you.

Every thing that you need is there. Lovely walk down by the river into the town, and if you can get past the Mill Bakery without sampling

their cakes, pastries, bread, or breakfast, your a better man than I am.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property to anyone.

A really good find!

  • 4 of 5

So glad I happened across this little place for our holiday. It was perfect for the 3 of us. A cute, clean and bright cabin with all the essentials you need for a week's self catering and more! The supply of kitchen roll, cling film, foil, tea bags, dishwashers tablets etc (and ice in the freezer!) was unexpected and so helpful to have on arrival and through the week. Just a short, pretty walk to the town centre along the river. Our only niggle was that the sofa wasn't very comfy for those wet nights in, I appreciate it's an extra sofabed but for a husband with a bad back it was hard for him to get comfy!!

We really enjoyed two visits to LBK for excellent burgers and the Penny Black cafe (down the side of the Post Office around the back of an antiques centre)for lunch & cake. So much to see and do in Dorset and Somerset, this is a great base. Although Wi-Fi would be handy for looking up places to go there is a good supply of local literature plus books & games at the house. It was so nicely decorated, felt so homely and a little retro. Would recommend!

Great location, family friendly property

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful accomodation everything a family needs. Great location less than 10 minute walk to the beach even for a 4 year olds tired legs. Plenty to do in Lyme Regis and plenty of other options such as theme parks, zoos etc less than an hours drive away. We spent a week here, but could have happily spent longer, will definatley book again.

A fantastic hidden gem; perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The property is hidden away next to the River Lym in a quiet spot just 5 minutes walk from the shops and cafes of Lyme Regis. It has been sympathetically restored in seaside hues and gave our family of four the perfect base for out holiday. The facilities were excellent, and it was a real help having a washer dryer available after a day on the beach.

The car parking is tight, and anyone with a longer vehicle is going to struggle, but this should not detract from the charm of this property. It was also very quiet in the evening, so a perfect place to relax. we couldn't fault it.

Owner's Response: Thank you Marcus, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay so much and the look of Homestead. My girls and I had a great time putting it all together and what is so nice is that our guests have really looked after it. I always admit the parking is tricky, as it is in most of Lyme, but once you are parked up the joy is to leave the car behind!

The conservatory was the most-used space.

  • 4 of 5

The key feature of this cottage was the conservatory which was light and airy - not to say that the rest of the property was questionable, quite the opposite, but without the conservatory we would have felt a lot differently. Nicely decorated, good beds, kitchen and bathroom facilities. The only area for improvement would be a 'quick start' guide for all the major appliances rather than having to ferret through the folder containing all their manuals but that would be the only gripe.

The location was also very good, near enough to the sea front while far enough away not to be bothered when Lyme was busy.
