About Ros Clarke

Our family has lived in North Devon for several years so we have always visited and holidayed there. As our children grew older we thought they would not want to go any more, but as adults they are now taking their children, so we thought we would buy somewhere for anyone to enjoy, any time. We love our chalet and feel very lucky that we own such a fabulous place so ideally located.

Ros Clarke purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Ros Clarke chose Westward Ho!

Location, location, location! Sea views and walking distance to amenities and beach, good size rooms and well kept site and chalet.

What makes this chalet unique

Great to be able to arrive and relax without driving. Comfortable and spacious even when sharing. Fabulous views and patio for relaxing.

Notes on accommodation: The chalet is in one of the best positions on this small chalet site. The site is relaxing but only a few minutes walk along the seafront to shops, bars, restaurants, pubs and beach. There are rock pools in front of the site and a large tidal swimming pool built into the rocks. There are plenty of grassy areas between the chalets, a small children's playground and a picnic/BBQ area on the seafront. The patio is very sheltered, private and sunny, ideal for eating outside! Fabulous for walks including the South West Coastal Path which passes the front. Golf, fishing etc all within a mile. Outside: There is the lovely, sheltered private patio with table and chairs. The patio has the sun most of the day and stretches all across the chalet. It is surrounded by flower beds. There are also large grassy areas to enjoy and a small children's playground. There is a site reception and laundrette with books and DVDs to borrow as well as an information centre. Large car parks. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and cleaning is included, provided weekly. Tea towels, oven gloves and bath mats are provided but we find people prefer to bring their own bath/beach/hand towels.

Beautiful location and position.

Ros was super with regard to communication and help with anything we needed. Thank you!

The chalet was well equipped and very clean. The children felt cosy and safe and enjoyed exploring the area. The location was super to enjoy the end of Autumn sea before the Winter set in. We thoroughly enjoyed our surfing and the proximity to the sea was perfect, not to mention the lovely glimpses of the sea you would achieve through the chalet windows.

A really beautiful contrast to our moorland home. The sound of the sea at night was wonderfully lulling for us all. To summarise, a super little chalet, wonderful owner and perfect location for beach and exploration of a great area! Thank you. The Kerswells - October 2017

Lovely clean chalet close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Westward Ho! Plenty to do locally - walks and a great beach, although the tide goes out a long way! Plenty to explore in the area if you have a car. The chalet was very clean, and we found the 3 bedrooms and separate loo and shower rooms a bonus. Nicely decorated, and the kitchen well equipped. A great place for a relaxing family holiday.

Superb holiday chalet

  • 5 of 5

This is really great chalet in a fabulous spot.

We've stayed on this site a few times now due to its fab location - but no.92 has been the best by far. It is probably one of the better positioned chalets on the site. Always a great feeling waking up looking across the green towards the sea.

Inside the property is of a really good standard. It was smart and clean, well maintained and felt very comfy. I've stayed at too many holiday lets in the past which are full of cast off furniture and old VCR recorders. Not at no. 92 though! The owners have spent a lot of time and consideration to provide everything that you would possibly need on your stay. Well equipped kitchen - fairly new TV and /DVD player, cupboard full of outdoor bits there was even buckets and spades for the kids. These are only little things but it does make a big difference when holidaying with the family.

Great location too - just a short stones throw to the promenade and a 5 minutes stroll down to the centre of Westward Ho. Also, Westward Ho is well situated for getting out and exploring the surrounding areas.

Had really good, prompt responses from the owners on the run up to the holiday - also, my mother managed to leave a purse in one of the rooms which Ros kindly tracked down and sent back.

Will definitely be back again.

The chalet is in a prime location on the site. It is lovely and quiet with wonderful views of the sea. There is everything you need for a holiday home from home. The weather could have been better but we still had a fab time. Hope to come back in the future.

Nearest Train
11 Kilometres
Car: not necessary

The site is on the seafront which is pebbly at high tide, sandy at low tide. The main access to the huge sandy beach is through the village, about 5 minutes walk away. The beach at Westward Ho! stretches into the distance and is never crowded. There is plenty of room on this Blue Flag beach for sand castles, cricket, rounders, or a more gentle game of boules. It's one of the best areas for surfing. There are lots of rock pools for exploring and a swimming pool built into the rocks with lifeguards.

Nearest railway Barnstaple 10km. National Coach stop 50m away. Buses run every 15 minutes to Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and other local towns. Approximately 50 minutes by car from J27 of M5 along the North Devon Link Road. Once here, car not required except to explore the local area!

Bideford 3 miles, Barnstaple 10 miles, Clovelly 10 miles, Appledore 3 miles

Further Details:

There are a few supermarkets in the village which are open from early morning until 10pm. There are plenty of pubs which serve food, the Waterfront Inn has an indoor ball pool and fun room for children as well as large garden with play areas. There are restaurants of all kinds; Thai, Chinese, Pizza, carvery etc. It is a couple of minutes' walk in the other direction to the Pier House, a seafront restaurant/bar with lovely outside terrace. There is also entertainment including mini disco here in high season which is free for anyone to use.

Golden Bay is ideally positioned for exploring the beautiful unspoilt countryside, beaches and coves of North Devon and Cornwall. Westward Ho! facilities include golf, walking, surfing, go-karting, mini golf, sand yachting, horse riding, fishing and canoeing. There is a swimming pool built into the rocks which has daytime lifeguards. Exploring the rock pools is a popular pastime, as is crab fishing off the quay at nearby Appledore.

Westward Ho! nestles under the Tors, leading directly onto the South West coastal path. To the east is Northam Burrows and the Royal North Devon Golf Club, which is England's second oldest club. There is also a course at Saunton Sands, a twenty minute drive away and one at Barnstaple.

Around the headland lies the ancient port town of Bideford. The quaint fishing villages of Clovelly and Appledore are close by. The market town of Barnstaple is a short drive away with its many High Street shops and indoor shopping centre. A couple of miles away is The Atlantic Village – a Factory Outlet centre boasting famous names at greatly reduced prices, including children's activities and many cafés. There are local fishing trips, boat trips and even a helicopter ride to to Lundy Isle. Local attractions for all ages also include the Big Sheep.

North Devon offers the perfect holiday location, with huge beaches and sandy coves, rugged moors and picturesque villages. There are plenty of family activities and days out exploring nearby.
