Las Piedras, Rute, Cordoba, Spain - A self-contained heaven in a peaceful location.

Situated in olive groves with the gentle 'bingle-bongle' of the nearby goat herd Casa Los Linares is a dream. A fully restored Cortijo or Country House, it sleeps 9 and has all the amenities you would expect from a modern home. Internal space is generous - 4 reception areas, one of which is a games room of 60 square meters complete with pool table and bar. Outside is a huge terrace for sunbeds plus a covered area for relaxing in the shade and dinning al fresco, all within view of the 15 metre pool. In 2015 we added a deck onto the end of the pool which is home to 2 double sunbeds.

About Claire Wilkings

We are a professional couple who have worked all over the world and this world experience is reflected in our beautiful house together with our love for entertaining and relaxing.

Sadly our work commitments will be keeping us away from Spain for a while and therefore we thought you'd like us to share our home with you and your family and friends.

This means we're unlikely to meet you but the house is being looked after by our good friends Peter and Claire Wilkings.

Why Claire Wilkings chose La Subbetica

We chose this house as it was a clear break from the hustle and bustle of life in China and the Middle East. Peaceful with just the 'bingle-bongle' of goat bells - but Rute's night life and bars just 10kms away and accessible to Malaga, Cordoba, Costa Del Sol, Seville and Granada for day trips.

What makes this villa unique

Our house sleeps up to 9 people comfortably. There is so much space even 9 of you will 'rattle around' to some extent. The facilities on offer mean that you could do one huge shop and 'hole up' for week without having to leave if you so wished.

Our favourite thing though is the 15 x 6 metre salt water pool - roomy enough for chilling on a lilo or having a water themed sport's day which we had last year, great fun.

Raining? Retire to the games room complete with huge sofas, huge tv, huge bar area, and full sized pool table, plus a load of board games to keep you amused and wifi if you'd rather not play with others :D

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is on the lake at Iznajar, 20 minutes drive south. There are water sports available and 2 restaurants waterside. The Costa Del Sol is do-able in a day - leave Rute early and stay all day. There are cool boxes and bags for guest us if you want to take a picnic. (We often go to Cabo Pino/Marbella for the day).

Distances:

Rute is the nearest small town - 12 minutes drive. The nearest bar is 5 minutes drive, or a brisk walk (take a torch). Granada, Malaga, Seville, Cordoba are all within 60 to 120 minutes away.

The actual location of the house is as little south of the marker on the map, If you switch to satellite view and zoom in you will see the blue pool.

Full details of local amenities will be found in our welcome pack at the house. Banks, supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies etc can all be found in Rute.

A floor plan of the property is available - just email me. Outside: Private 15m x 6m salt water pool. Gardens and olive grove area. Large curtained covered terrace with seating and dining furniture including day beds. Terrace big enough for all sunbeds. BBQ, large larder fridge, sink, worktop, recycling bins. Cool boxes and bags and deck chairs for beach/picnic use. Pool toys. Utility Room: Washing machine, dryer, sink, ironing board, iron, cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: 100% cotton bedding. Mattress/pillow protectors are changed with each change of customer. Duvets are provided when cooler. All towels provided, including pool towels. Sheets and towels are changed weekly, excluding pool towels. Other: Games Room (60 m2) with sofas, chairs, tables, huge TV, dvd player, full size pool table, bar including fridge, access from the terrace. There is also a separate gym with a running machine and free weights, steps, golf clubs etc.

Perfect retreat

The pictures on this site do not do justice to the house. It is far larger than was expected and furnished in a comfortable, traditional style. Stepping into the entrance on arrival was a real treat but the bar and pool room were even better. Wifi, TV and DVD all worked well and were easy to operate. The outside space around the pool was just fantastic, plenty of lounging areas, a large table and a gas BBQ meant we ate outside every night. The mountain setting among the olive groves is lovely, it was just so peaceful, the silence only broken by the goat bells. Thanks to Claire for greeting us on arrival and explaining everything we needed to know. We had a fantastic week it was a shame we couldn't stay longer.

Amazing scenery, great pool and house

We had a wonderful three weeks here, far from the madding crowd, and were just sad that our children and partners could join us for only one of the three weeks. The setting and the views are spectacular: this part of Andalucia, on the edge of a national park, is full of magnificent scenery and seems very light on tourists. The house is not all that easy to find, but that, for us, was part of its charm. You're 600m down a dirt track in the middle of an olive grove (everywhere in this part of the world is olive groves) and next to a goat farm.

The house was indeed very spacious, clean and well equipped, with quirky but welcome extras like the bar, pool table and daybeds. (I have to admit we did sleep outdoors under the stars one very warm night.) Our only criticism was the lack of aircon in the annex – something I think the property owner should remedy for next year, as sleeping there is difficult when it's hot. I almost reduced my star rating because of that, but decided that overall this was such a great place as to merit 5 stars.

The very best thing for me was the 15m non-chlorine pool - probably the best house pool we've had. I managed 1km most days (70 lengths by my estimation), if that's not showing off too much.

Claire was a very efficient manager and responded very promptly to any concerns; eg a small plumbing issue resulted in a plumber on site within hours. And Francisco and his wife Toni who maintain the house and pool were delightful and offered a good chance to practise my ropey Spanish.

Amazing villa set amongst Olive groves and with superb views of the Andalucian mountains.

Our family stayed at Los Linares in order to attend a wedding and also to celebrate our 60th birthdays. The villa was very spacious and was very well stocked with everything we needed. We were impressed with the welcome pack as we'd had a very early start in the U.K. The pool was superb and the shaded areas were well used.

The villa proved hard to locate as we'd had a delay in our flight, so maybe a map and a sign on the main road would have helped. The air conditioning was essential as even Spain was experiencing a heat wave! The annexe bedroom would benefit from the same air con as the others.

In conclusion, we had a fabulous holiday. The views were stunning and we loved lazing around the pool all day and the sitting out and watching the bats in the warm evenings. Thank you.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad everything went smoothly for you and yes bat and swallow watching is one of the best pasttimes at the house I think Regarding your feedback the house is pinned on Google Maps (I think I did mention it before you came) and the GPS is provided. Unfortunately aircon in the annex is not practical because of it's open plan aspect. Most people find they get a through draft when upper and lower windows are open, but yes it has been very hot for an extended period this year. There isn't a sign on the road for security reasons.

Perfect!

A beautiful setting for this lovely house which even in August, when temperatures were at their hottest, was cool and relaxing. The pool is just stunning, vast, very clean and surrounded by lovely scenery with sun loungers and also plenty of shaded seating for the hottest part of the day. Watching the swallows flying over the pool each evening was a real treat as was hearing the goats going past each day. There is also an outside dining table with plenty of space (and no mosquitos!) and a large gas barbecue which was well used as the excellent supermarket in Rute was very well stocked and had a particularly good selection of fresh fish. A huge air conditioned games room which included a pool table proved very popular in the evenings and there was plenty of seating and good sized bedrooms and bathrooms. It was the perfect place for our three generation family. We were also really impressed by Claire, who manages the property, she made sure we had all the information we needed before we arrived and was there to meet us on arrival and to show us around. Thank you very much Claire, we had a wonderful time in a beautiful house.

Had a great time!

We all enjoyed our stay and made the most of the location, pool, facilities and sunshine! The house was very comfortable and close to local shops etc and as we'd brought a couple of great chefs with us the food was fantastic. We had day trips out to Seville and Córdoba which are highly recommended for a visit albeit they involve a fair amount of time driving but well worth the journey. Our host Claire was very helpful throughout and we would definitely recommend this place as it ticked all the boxes for us.

Peace & quiet in a beautiful location

Spent two gloriously sunny & peaceful weeks in late September at Casa Los Linares. The house was more than large enough for our party of 8, but as we spent most of our time outside, it was the external space that made the stay so enjoyable. The pool was excellent - large & very clean - and the combination of open & covered patio space gave us ample room to spread out & relax.

The location is beautiful, the house being surrounded by hills, with the view of the mountains to the east particularly impressive. As its a 20-25 minutes drive to nearest towns, we dined in every evening. The kitchen, though a touch on the small size is very well equipped, and the local supermarket in Rute was surprisingly well stocked - especially with fresh seafood - so we were able to prepare lots of extremely nice meals to enjoy at the outside dining table. And in the evening after dinner we could also indulge in a spot of star gazing as the lack of light pollution means the night sky is spectacular.

Though the location is very quiet - the only disturbance being the daily passage of goats on their way to & from grazing on the hills - we found plenty of places to visit within an hours drive & also visited Cordoba & Granada (twice!) as they are both less than 90 minutes drive. All in all a great place to stay & chill, or to get out and explore central Andalucia, particularly if you like peace & quiet in a beautiful location.
