Flax Mill ticks many boxes for families with members of all ages, being largely on one floor. The space, both inside and out, is a major feature, with high wood panelled ceilings and two lounges for relaxing, so that the different generations in a party can enjoy relaxing in their own way all under one roof. Patios at both front and rear give the best chance for outdoor relaxing and dining, with particularly lovely views from the rear. The 'Secret Garden' with secluded areas and an orchard are a favourite with children looking to explore, or let off steam.

Parking next to the bungalow brings easy access for unloading and parking for two cars. 2 well behaved dogs are welcome, we just ask for £24.50 per dog, per week.

About the Owner

Our love of the Yorkshire Dales (inc honeymoon in 1992) led to a dream being fulfilled in 2011 with our first (neighbouring) cottage in Redmire. A warm welcome from the villagers and the nearby excellent Bolton Arms confirmed that Redmire was also the place for our first foray into letting a holiday home. One of us tries to be on hand to welcome guests and explain the extensive amenities and grounds that your party can enjoy, with orchard and small paddock, great for children and dogs.

Although only opened in August 2014, we are pleased with the delightful comments guests have made, mostly about the spacious interior and grounds and how Flax Mill has 'everything they need'. Our guests' comfort is our paramount concern and we want you to feel Flax Mill lives up to, and exceeds, our claim.

From the Owner

Apart from the pub, friendly villagers and views, convenience is a big plus for Redmire, with Leyburn and its small supermarkets and speciality stores only 5 miles away and lots of local attractions to visit. Walkers and cyclists will find ample trips and walks on the doorstep, with (for the energetic) no need to get in the car to see Castle Bolton, Redmire Falls, Bolton Hall, Aysgarth Falls and the Wensleydale Railway at its Redmire terminus.

Leyburn (5 miles from Redmire village) is well equipped with all amenities including a Co-op, Onestop and Campbell's delicatessen/wine-merchant and cash points. There is a Village Shop in Redmire (limited opening hours) and a Post Office. The Village pub in Redmire serves excellent home cooked food (including breakfast) and stocks local ales. Redmire is situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales so is a perfect base to explore from, is the last stop for the Wensleydale Railway and is surrounded by a plethora of things to do and places to see.

  • Notes on accommodation: Comprehensively refurbished in 2014 - new additions include the country style kitchen, log burner, central heating system, and one of the 3 bathrooms. Flax Mill combines comfort and convenience with attractively decorated and furnished rooms, and specially selected art works which reflect the local area. Outside: Patios at front and rear. Stunning views from rear patio. Garden furniture to seat and dine 8 people at rear, with BBQ chiminea and parasol. You can roam in the half acre of informal garden with bluebells in Spring, a small orchard and secret 'play area' alongside sheep grazing fields. Parking for two cars off street. Utility Room: Sink drainer, washing machine, new central heating boiler and access to patio with morning sun (east facing) and garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels included. Property cleaned and linen/towels changed weekly. Other: Warm and comfortable snug, with seating for 6, high ceiling with exposed beams, flatscreen TV with DVD, iPod dock, Freesat. Entrance conservatory with patio furniture and an entrance hallway with storage for outdoor clothing and boots.
