About the Owner

I have known Elsley all my life and we have taken all our family holidays for the last 30 years in Combe Martin. Our love of North Devon stems from strong family links to the area over many generations and the glorious landscape.

From the Owner

Elsley is a nice homely property with a pleasant outlook across a colourful front garden to the hills in the distance. The North Devon coast with it's fantastic walks and outstanding views is only a short walk away. The South West Coast Path and the chance to escape from the world away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life is on the doorstep. Although tucked away, Elsley is conveniently located for many family friendly attractions as well as being just 10 miles from the larger town of Barnstaple; which offers all the usual delights of town life.

Special interest holidays:

Combe Martin is situated on the edge of Exmoor National Park and is part of North Devon's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty making it an ideal base for walkers. The South West coast path runs through the village offering outstanding views of North Devon's dramatic coast and unspoilt countryside. The Hangman Hills that dominate the scenery are the highest cliffs in the country and if you can manage the climb, the views from the top are fantastic!

The sheltered bay of Combe Martin is only a 3 minute walk away and is largely pebbled with large areas of firm sand exposed at low tide. It's numerous rock pools are crammed full of sea life and are a magnet for children and their fishing nets. The bay is also perfect for kayaking from local hire companies.

In contrast to the west of Combe Martin, the rugged coastline gives way to the magnificent sandy, surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton Sands about 12 miles away.

Elsley is best visited by car, but there are good bus links to the nearby town of Ilfracombe and county town of Barnstaple which has access to main line train services. The nearest airport is Exeter about 60 miles from the property.

The South West coast path runs through the village and easily accessed from Elsley and offers stunning views of the whole of the North Devon Coast. The nearest town to the property is Ilfracombe which is just over 5 miles and is home to a Damien Hurst gallery and statue Verity. I would recommend a trip along the coast road, along the edge of Exmoor to picturesque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth about 12 miles away. For the best sandy beach, head to Woolacombe also 12 miles away.

From the Owner

Being at Elsley offers a great base for exploring all that North Devon has to offer. It's closeness to Exmoor National Park which has been designated as the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe, offers fantastic opportunities to see the stars at night with no light pollution. On a clear night it is amazing and only a short distance from the bungalow! If you love nature and the wildness of the coast you'll love North Devon. It's beaches, quaint villages and hidden valleys are great to explore for the young and old and in between.
