The beach resort of Almyrida is a short car drive away with shops, tavernas and restaurants nestling around a perfect sandy cove and pretty little harbour, which is only a 7 minute drive away. Nearby are lovely traditional Greek villages, while the beautiful medieval city of Chania with its international airport is just a 40 minute drive away.

Access to the Villa is via an unmade, private road and Car hire is essential.

About Gary and Sallie Hill

Craftsmans Pride was built especially to Gary and Sallie's own specification and is their second home. Gary runs his own IT / Business Services company from their home near Colchester. He is also a musician and plays an active role in his local community.

We work in the UK for most of the year and live in Crete at our beautiful home at least six weeks each year until we retire, whereupon we will spend more of our time in Crete. Should you decide to stay in our beautiful home for your well deserved holiday I can guarantee that the service you receive will be outstanding. The villa is our own private residence and not a holiday let and it is very rare to be able to rent such a property directly from the owners. Enjoy your stay at our home.

Why Gary and Sallie Hill chose Chania area

We purchased the land and had our house built by Bentley Award Winning Housebuilders, Hellenic Homes. We were shown around various plots and houses and when we both saw this plot we looked at each other and instantly knew 'this was it'.

After looking at several 'concrete' houses we saw the quality of a stone built home and were sold. Although a lot more expensive to build than pouring concrete into a mould, we think the quality and look of the house speaks for itself.

The location is very quiet, but suits us just fine, we have one neighbour who visits about 3 times a year and so rarely meet up.

This villa is in the perfect getaway-from-it-all location.

Craftsmans Pride is located in one of the nicest locations in the area. Uniquely positioned above olive groves and the sea in the distance, it is situated in a superbly elevated position

The villa is situated a short drive to the, blue flag beaches, amenities, tavernas and sea front restaurants of Almyrida.

This is what gives Craftsman's Pride a clear advantage over most other villas in the area. Its location is perfect for that very quiet getaway

The villa is fully licensed by the Greek Tourist Authority (EOT).

Notes on accommodation: When enquiring about the Villa we will phone you back if you leave a number and you can ask us questions etc. We are happy to offer advice on flights, car hire and driving. Feel free to call us as well. Please note that we provide pool/beach towels but these are not changed mid stay. You are welcome to use the washing machine to wash them. Outside: Set in a 1200m sq plot of landscaped gardens including rockeries, flowerbeds with many quality plants, lemon, orange, apricot and olive trees and oleander. Set just above the swimming pool is a shaded alfresco dining area with a large table with seating for 6 people. It is rare to find a heated swimming pool, which takes the chill out of the water during the early and late season. The 30m sq solar heated infinity swimming pool, depth 1.2 - 1.5m is ideal for children over five years, as well as adults and is cleaned and tested on regular basis. Around the pool area are sun beds and an outdoor shower. The patio areas around the the villa enjoy areas of sunshine and shade. The sun sets in a spectacular display to the front/left of the villa each night as it slowly disappears behind the distant hills. Utility Room: The washing machine is located in the ground floor utility room, which contains a laundry basket, iron, ironing board and general cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The villa is fully managed and maintained. Towels and linen are changed midstay, on stays of 10 days or more. As the villa is a private residence, guests are kindly requested to keep the villa and its facilities in an immaculate condition at all times. Other: Dining areas are all located inside and outdoors. Breakfast and evening meals can be prepared and enjoyed in the outdoor alfresco dining area, which has a large solid table and 6 chairs. The indoor Kitchen/Lounge has a large dining table

Beautiful villa and views. Really well finished

Great villa, well equipped and very well finished inside. Aircon in all bedrooms and the living area was appreciated and the first time we've had a solar heated pool, which really took the edge off the kid's 8am swims! Also noticed the location provides some protection when the wind when it gets up. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic getaway!

The property was superb, tucked away on the edge of a small village. The views over the Sea of Crete were amazing. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat and everything about the property was very well maintained. We had a really chilled time and would return in a heat beat. Thank you so much to Gary and Sallie for being so attentive and also thanks to Walter and Isobel the local property managers.

Beautiful villa with a fantastic view!

Once we had eventually found the villa(check out the you tube clip that the owners email you prior to your visit...we didn't!) we arrived to a spotlessly clean, well equipped villa.

You definitely need a car and would recommend a 4 wheel drive with enough ground clearance to manage the steep, uneven track leading to the property.

The owners had given careful consideration when equipping the villa with more than enough plates, glasses, cutlery etc. Nice extras such as a bottle of wine, milk and bread on arrival.

Fantastic view of Souda Bay from the veranda and pool and areas of shade around the property for when it got too hot!

Air conditioning in the bedrooms lovely at night but downstairs in the day you got enough breeze through the doors to keep it cool.

Nice to be able to use adapters provided in all rooms for your own appliances. Loads of games and books provided for entertainment however we lost the will with the 'genius' version of Trival Pursuit!

If there was one criticisum it would be the hard double bed but it is really tricky to please everyone and for 1 week was fine.

We enjoyed eating in Plaka in the evenings which is only a 5 min drive away.

The owners are particularly accommodating and speedy with the paying back the breakage deposit ( I guess if you don't break anything!)

All in all I would highly recommmend.

A fanastic, secluded gem of a villa.

We had a wonderful two week family holiday staying in this beautiful villa.

It is a real gem. We were delighted and excited when we arrived - it is even more lovely than the photos on line make it look! It was perfect for us as a family of 6. Well worth the drive up and down the unmade track to the secluded, very private location. The setting is amazing with spectacular views out to sea which we loved and were a joy to wake up to everyday. It was peaceful and relaxing. The pool is perfect and it was very nice to have the use of lilos and balls too. We enjoyed the covered outdoor terrace at lunchtime and in the evening. The well compiled file/book in the villa has all the information in it that you need to know. Easy driving distance to lots of lovely locations - we particularly enjoyed Chania, the capital of the west of Crete with its beautiful old Venetian town and harbour and pretty lighthouse.

The property has a well equipped kitchen and it was great to have the use of a washing machine!

We highly recommend Craftman's Pride and very much hope to stay there again one day.

The owners provide very good customer service indeed and the property is well maintained and clean.

Lovely Villa, lovely views

A lovely villa in a secluded spot, with views over the bay and coastline. Beautifully kept villa, furnished to the highest standard. Everything you need is there, from DVD's, books, a good wifi internet connection, air conditioning, towels, coffee maker, satlellite tv, bbq. Nice quiet area, good pool. Would recommend this to anyone.

Fantastic Villa

This is a fantastic villa, equipped with everything you need and more. It is a very peaceful location and the views are stunning. The infinity pool is brilliant and the whole property is kept in pristine condition by the very friendly managers, Isobel and Walter.

The tavernas in Plaka offer a great variety of delicious food, or drive down to nearby Almyrida and eat beside the sea. Don't miss a visit to the wonderful bakery in Almyrida.

We love to visit Georgioupolis, the Venetian harbour in Chania and Rethymnon. We also booked a day trip to Santorini which sailed from Rethymnon. The bus then took us on a tour, visiting Oia and Fira, followed by a choice of shopping, swimming or a sail round the volcano. It was a little expensive, but well worth a visit.

This was our second visit and we are already planning to go back next year.

As a general note, the island is quite hilly and the roads are both steep and tortuous - our recommendation would be to hire a car with automatic transmission and a reasonable ground clearance !

The owners, Gary and Sallie, are very friendly and make the booking process easy. They provide you with all the information you need to have a great holiday in Crete.

Special interest holidays:

There is a PADI scuba diving centre located in Almyrida, and dives to the famous underwater elephant cave are regularly arranged.

Coast/Beach:

The pretty sandy beach of Almyrida is only a seven minute drive away and the village has a host of traditional Greek tavernas, sea front restaurants, shops, cafes, mini-markets and water sports.

Further afield is the town of Georgioupolis which has many resort shops and tavernas and a sandy beach which stretches approximately 10kms!

Travel:

The nearest airport is Chania, which is about a 40 minute drive away. A hire car is essential for the Villa and you can arrange a hire car directly from the airport. The hire car firm Flisvos located in Almyrida offers great rates and will have a representative waiting for you in arrivals for the hand over. Heraklion airport is about a 2 hour drive. Please contact us if you would like contact details of car hire companies.

Distances:

The nearest beach is the stoney tiny cove in Kokkino Chorio and is perfect for Snorkelling. If a sandy beach is more you, Almyrida, with it's safe, sandy beach, tavernas, sea front restaurants and mini-markets is a 7 minute drive. Kalyves is a 12 minute drive. A host of other small Greek villages are only a short drive away. The villa location is simply unique and possibly the best location for access to all areas. We always recommend a hire car.
