Lovely Beamed Barn in St Kew, Cornwall - Peaceful Location, Close To Port Isaac, Padstow and the Camel Trail.

The Old Dairy, part of an old Cornish Longhouse and once a working dairy, provides a wonderful one-bedroom holiday cottage combining loads of comfort and old-world character and charm. The rooms are light and airy with lovely exposed beams. The accommodation provides a huge kitchen with modern, fitted units and a dining table and chairs. There is a large modern walk-in shower, leather sofa and chairs, flat screen TV and WiFi throughout. The large bedroom also has exposed beams up to the rafters and a wooden floor and leads out onto a private courtyard which gets the early morning sun right through to late afternoon and is great place for morning coffee or an evening barbecue. Outside there is plenty of parking and lovely views over open countryside. Bikes are easily stored securely in our garage as we are an ideal base to explore the flat trails, the hills of Bodmin Moor and the Coastal Highway. The Old Dairy is situated on the village road that leads into St Kew where you can find the renowned and wonderful 15th century 'St Kew Inn' where you will receive a warm welcome and excellent pub food. We are very close to Port Isaac where you can wander the winding lanes and dine out with marvellous coastal views and Padstow which you can reach by ferry from Rock or arrive by bike on the Camel Trail. St Kew is close to the lovely market town of Wadebridge and provides easy access to the rest of Cornwall. We are surrounded by lovely sandy beaches for surfing and walking and many have cafes and restaurants for refreshments after a long laze in the sun. The Cornish coastal path also provides miles of undulating and some challenging cliff top walks again with stunning views and we provide maps and can suggest a variety of interesting walks locally and across the county. The Old Dairy is a non-smoking property but guests can smoke in the courtyard garden.

About Philippa Eddison

We have lived in this wonderful long house full of character and charm for the past 14 years enjoying the peaceful calm of rural village life and having views of open countryside all around. We sometimes have neighbours when the cattle come to graze for a few weeks but generally the sounds are of birdsong with the odd tractor rumbling by. Being on the village road there is some light traffic coming by as well - mainly heading for the excellent local village pub.

We have renovated the barns that were once used as a dairy and as a carthouse to create the 'Old Dairy' and we hope that our guests will be able to enjoy all that there is to offer locally or further afield whilst staying in our cosy and comfortable holiday cottage. Dogs are most welcome.

Why Philippa Eddison chose Saint Kew

The Old Dairy is very quaint with lop-sided walls, beamed ceilings and has loads of character but is also fitted with very modern facilities including a fully equipped kitchen, a large, open shower with dual heads, an extremely comfortable king-size bed, a private and a sunny courtyard perfect for relaxing, barbecuing and chilling out. We are surrounded by fields and have a small wood at the bottom of the garden where we have built a tree house. A great place for an evening drink whilst watching the sun go down and Guests are most welcome to use this.

What makes this cottage unique

The Old Dairy is so old that parts of it date back to the 12th century. We are in a rural spot but the excellent 15th century St Kew Inn is just a 12 minute walk away, taking you across the ancient ford. The food is wonderful, there is a massive garden out front down by the running stream and dogs are most welcome. In the winter months there is a massive log fire, lively music on a friday night and always a warm welcome.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The Old Dairy is really, really old and bursting with character but with a small, narrow front door and steps down to the bedroom it is not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. For everyone else it is a must! Outside: Outside in the secluded patio there are 2 high-back wooden chairs, table and chiminea which is used for barbecues and also provides additional heating as the evenings start to cool down. There are fields on both sides of the property which can be used for dog-walking - ideal for an early morning lap or late-night finals. Utility Room: There is no utility space but we are happy to put on a wash for you if required. Plenty of outside drying space either in the open air or in large oak-framed garage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are provided and the property is thoroughly cleaned on change-over. Other: The Old Dairy is quirky, old and charming and slightly unconventional in it's layout. All furniture and fittings are new and high-quality but the old world character is still there in abundance.

Lovely cosy little cottage for two, close to excellent pub and beautiful coastline.

We had a very enjoyable 9-day stay over autumn half-term, and were very comfortable. Great shower, good heating and TV for soggy evenings, and very helpful owners handy for advice and any issues at all.

Quirky wee house

Lovely conversion of old farm building, unusual having the tv in the bedroom but mostly used lap top/ i pad so it wasn't needed much. Great kitchen space, well equipped and the whole house very clean. Brilliant shower and very comfy bed. Our thanks to Philippa for her friendly help whenever it was required, a couple of electrical problems were dealt with very promptly, quite outstanding really !! I would definitely recommend.

Cornwall is, as expected, a beautiful and diverse place, one week was not long enough, st Michaels mount and the Eden project were both awesome and Lands end is worth going to just for the view, Port Issac is a lovely place and Mariners at Rock is a great eatery as is the more local st Kew Inn.

Comfortable, warm, clean , dog friendly accommodation with very helpful owner nearby . Perfectly located, just off the Atlantic highway, easy access to Padstow & nearby beaches &Port Isaac/ Tintagel area. Hope to return it was so good!

We really enjoyed our stay, it was well situated lovely pub minutes away. The cottage had plenty of room and was very well equipped. Shame about the weather but it didn't spoil our enjoyment. We hope to go back.

Fab cosy cottage from which to explore Cornwall!

Absolutely perfect for a couple on their Mini Moon! Great sized bed, good sized kitchen, with the added bonus of a dishwasher!

Small courtyard is great to enjoy a glass of wine or G&T in when the sun shines.

The only thing that would have made this better is a DVD player for when the weather's not so great... we love a box set! This wasn't enough to spoil our stay in any way, as we had a lap top.

Fabulous stay in an excellent location!

We have just spent five nights in this beautiful little cottage which has been refurbished to a very high standard by the owners.

It was easy to locate, being just off the St Kew Highway. We were greeted by the owners very warmly and found a lovely card and welcome packet of shortbread waiting for us.

The cottage itself had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable, in particular the lovely bed and spotless bathroom.

A huge thank you to the owners and we hope to stay again soon!

Coast/Beach:

Port Isaac and Port Gaverne beaches are a 12 minute drive away and these rocky coves have many places to eat and drink as well as swim and bathe. Polzeath and Daymer Bay are 15 minutes drive and are great for surfing and relaxing. Again they have many restaurants and cafes for refreshments during the day or dining in the evening.

Travel:

Newquay airport is 20 minutes drive with flights to London and the north and Bodmin railway station is about 30 minutes away. Exeter is about an hour's drive and there is an airport there or you can catch faster services from Exeter train station.

Distances:

St Kew is nestled in beautiful open countryside but is close to many beaches and is 5 minutes from the lovely market town of Wadebridge. Newquay is about 25 minutes away and the Eden Project is 35 minutes away. The A39 provides good access to the south-west from here.

Further Details:

St Kew has a late-night shop open at the petrol station at St Kew Highway. Wadebridge has many lovely shops and restaurants and there are loads of places to eat out at the beach, in quaint villages like Port Isaac and in numerous welcoming country pubs.

The area is great for cycling with many easy, flat trails and lots of more challenging hills and off-road courses. There are lots of local potters and artists running day courses and many food related cookery schools running courses of varying length including fish, bread-making, thai and japanese.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday but this may be more flexible during the winter months. Generally we ask our leaving guests to be out by 10.30 am so we can prepare for new guests who can arrive anytime after 4 pm.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
