Luxury Grade II listed Cottage in St Kew - close to Port Isaac.

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
Lovely Beamed Barn in St Kew, Cornwall - Peaceful Location, Close To Port Isaac, Padstow and the Camel Trail.

The Old Dairy is part of an old Cornish Longhouse, renovated in 2013 to provide a wonderful one-bedroom holiday cottage combining loads of comfort and old-world character. The rooms are open to the rafters with exposed A-frames and has wood and slate flooring. The accommodation provides a huge kitchen with modern, fitted units and a dining table and chairs. There is a large walk-in shower, sofa and chairs, flat screen TV and WiFi throughout. The large bedroom also has exposed beams up to the rafters and a wooden floor and leads out onto a private courtyard which gets the early morning sun right through to late afternoon and is great place for morning coffee or an evening barbecue. Outside there is plenty of parking and lovely views over open countryside. The Old Dairy is situated on the village road that leads into St Kew where you can find the renowned and wonderful 'St Kew Inn'. The pub dates back to the 15th, offers a warm welcome and serves great food. Close by there are many beaches that are ideal for swimming and surfing, miles and miles of coastal path walks, golf courses, more pubs, great restaurants and the Camel Trail for flat, easy cycling out to Padstow or up onto Bodmin Moor. St Kew is close to the lovely market town of Wadebridge and provides easy access to the rest of Cornwall. The Old Dairy is a non-smoking property but guests can smoke in the courtyard garden.

About the Owner

We have lived in this wonderful long house full of character and charm for the past 14 years enjoying the peaceful calm of rural village life and having views of open countryside all around. We sometimes have neighbours when the cattle come to graze for a few weeks but generally the sounds are of birdsong with the odd tractor rumbling by. Being on the village road there is some light traffic coming by as well mainly heading for the local village pub.

We have renovated the barns that were once used as a dairy and as a carthouse to create the 'Old Dairy' and we hope that our guests will be able to enjoy all that there is to offer locally or further afield whilst staying in our cosy and comfortable holiday cottage. Dogs are most welcome.

Fabulous stay in an excellent location!

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent five nights in this beautiful little cottage which has been refurbished to a very high standard by the owners.

It was easy to locate, being just off the St Kew Highway. We were greeted by the owners very warmly and found a lovely card and welcome packet of shortbread waiting for us.

The cottage itself had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable, in particular the lovely bed and spotless bathroom.

A huge thank you to the owners and we hope to stay again soon!

Lovely place would recommend

  • 5 of 5

Loved this place. Spacious kitchen. Modern shower/ bathroom . Extremely comfy bed and a lovely peaceful courtyard. Every utensil you would need is included in the kitchen. Very thoughtful to have the little things you might not take such as tea bags, olive oil etc

The surrounding area is very peaceful and the pub is a 15 minute walk. Great place to visit the rest of Cornwall. Some lovely beaches nearby too. Lovely and clean and a real bonus to be able to take the dog.

Overall, a fab place to stay and the owners were very helpful and could not be more welcoming. I would thoroughly recommend.

A lovely comfortable place to stay

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully converted property with everything you need - we were even welcomed with free range eggs and shortbread, a thoughtful touch. We and our dog were made to feel very welcome and particularly enjoyed the sunny patio for that post lunch snooze. An ideal base for exploring, would definitely recommend it.

5 days in St Kew

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute booking which Phillipa politely accepted. The "old dairy" sits in a great spot, close to the A39 for access to the amazing north coast beaches whilst being secluded and quiet enough to enjoy the peace of the cornish countryside. The accomodation is great for 2, and our dog (well behaved puppy) was made welcome. There is a field adjacent to the property to exercise your pet as and when required. A warm, welcoming old cornish building which has been renovated sympathetically; clean, quirky and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Phillipa will go out of her way to ensure your time spent at the "old dairy" is comfortable including your pet which was appreciated. Overall, great value for money for a comfortable base from which to explore the cornish coastline. Would reccomend the pub in St Kew for supper; a proper country pub with cornish ales and great food. We would definately stay here again or reccomend it to a friend and for travellers with a dog looking for a cornish getaway it fills all requirements.

Lovely cosy getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Old Dairy is beautifully converted and equipped, with a lovely, spacious kitchen and great little shower room. The bed / sitting room is a good size and provided plenty of space for me and my two golden retrievers. All was very clean and well presented and the bed was comfortable.

We were given a lovely welcome by Philippa and Eddy, who could not have been more friendly and helpful throughout.

I stayed in winter, when the timber door to the private courtyard was unfortunately a little swollen after all the rain and wouldn't open, so it wasn't possible simply to let the dogs outside off the lead, into the courtyard. Philippa kindly said, however, that I could take them into their garden and field, which was very helpful - and I'm sure the door will be sorted in no time! Philippa also left me a handwritten note, unsolicited, giving directions to Colquite Woods, which was an excellent place to walk the dogs.

All in all, The Old Dairy was a great base from which to explore the beautiful surrounding area and I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay.

Location

From the Owner

The Old Dairy is very quaint with lop-sided walls, beamed ceilings and has loads of character but is also fitted with very modern facilities including a fully equipped kitchen, a large, open shower with dual heads, an extremely comfortable king-size bed, a private and a sunny courtyard perfect for relaxing, barbecuing and chilling out. We are surrounded by fields and have a small wood at the bottom of the garden where we have built a tree house. A great place for an evening drink whilst watching the sun go down and Guests are most welcome to use this.

Facilities

From the Owner

The Old Dairy is so old that parts of it date back to the 12th century. We are in a rural spot but the excellent 15th century St Kew Inn is just a 12 minute walk away, taking you across the ancient ford. The food is wonderful, there is a massive garden out front down by the running stream and dogs are most welcome. In the winter months there is a massive log fire, lively music on a friday night and always a warm welcome.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The Old Dairy is really, really old and bursting with character but with a small, narrow front door and steps down to the bedroom it is not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. For everyone else it is a must! Outside: Outside in the secluded patio there are 2 high-back wooden chairs, table and chiminea which is used for barbecues and also provides additional heating as the evenings start to cool down. There are fields on both sides of the property which can be used for dog-walking - ideal for an early morning lap or late-night finals. Utility Room: There is no utility space but we are happy to put on a wash for you if required. Plenty of outside drying space either in the open air or in large oak-framed garage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are provided and the property is thoroughly cleaned on change-over. Other: The Old Dairy is quirky, old and charming and slightly unconventional in it's layout. All furniture and fittings are new and high-quality but the old world character is still there in abundance.
