Horrible!

  • 1 of 5

It is like a seedy, creepy bed sit . Not somewhere to go on holiday! It's damp, whiffs, ill equipped, no instructions or welcome pack. Light in bedroom is faulty as is the cooker. Open fire but no smoke alarm or extinguisher. Gloomy and depressing. Avoid like the plaque !!!?

The house was Ok, but no more.

  • 3 of 5

We had a lovely holiday in Scotland, we stayed 8 days in the cottage, and the weather was from fine to glorious nearly every day, so we were away for the whole day and could visit a lot of places.

The house was clean, although, probably due to the fact that it is old and simple it iwas quite humid; besides, it stands isolated between old tall trees, beside a little road.

Very very sparse with everything related to the household: 6 dishes, 6 bowls, no coffee machine, a wash machine but nowhere to hang the washed clothes for drying, no vacuum cleaner -although there is carpet all over the house-.

We had booked for five persons, but there were just four chairs in the house, so one of us had to sit on a small table when eating.

It was very clear in the first emails exchanged that the owner did not want to meet us: the key to the house was in a safe beside the door, and we got a code for it per email.

All contacts before and during our stay were made per email. They were answered, but after only after insisting, and with some delay (we had to ask twice within two days for a vacuum cleaner, as we had spilled some sugar on the carpet delay, before the owner broight one)

All this was no problem for us, as we are a very flexible and easy going family, but the owner could really take a little bit more care of his customers!

Looks can be deceiving

  • 3 of 5

Cottage is lovely from the outside but the interior lets it down. Adequately furnished but missing the finishing touches. No lamp in living room to make it cosier. No door either - a curtain could keep out draughts. Fortunately we had superb weather so were out most of the time. No books, games and very little in the way of local information, but there is a decent TV and broadband. No lamps on both sides of bed, so only one can read at night, and I felt the bedding was cheap and thin. Cleanliness could have been better and I had to empty the hoover bag by hand as it was so full it wasn't picking up. The list could go on. On the plus side the location is very central for exploring the area which is stunning. Fabulous scenery, plenty of nice places to eat and lots of walks and activities and we enjoyed our holiday. We have been using rental cottages for twenty years and I'm not a fussy person. I've never given a bad review before but I was really disappointed this time. Sorry.

Picturesque setting with good base to travel aroun

  • 5 of 5

We booked last minute and Alistair was very accommodating with our last minute request. The cottage is set in beautiful surroundings just off a main road but its very quiet. Half an hour to Stirling or Glasgow and an hour to Perth or Edinburgh. Great base if your planning a few trips out by car. Bedrooms are spacious with plenty of wardrobe space. 1 single and 2 double room (1 has a folding bed also). Bathroom with shower over bath, plenty of hot water. Living room has a real fire but house has central heating back up. A 3 seater comfy sofa and single chair with dining table with 4 chairs. Kichen is small but has everything you need even washing machine and outside washing line. Picnic bench in the garden. The outside is well lit but if your walking dog at night you'll need a torch. A well stocked co-op is 3 miles away with a Indian restaurant / take away next door which we used, lovely food. We had a great few days here and the dog loved it. An ideal base. The only negative is no DVD player but the internet connection was great. Very reasonable prices. I would definitely stay here again and hopefully will. Throughly recommended.
