Converted Croft. Original Wood Panelling, In A Small Hamlet Near The Coast

Updated: 26-Oct-2016
Cottage in Cuaig, Nr. Applecross Peninsula, Scottish Highlands - Rural location nestling between a stream and the river.

Situated in the north-west of the Applecross Peninsula, the house nestles between a river and a small stream. 5-10 minutes walk takes you to superb views towards Skye and Rhona and to 2 sandy beaches, from one of which you can access a small waterfall. The house retains the original wood paneling of the old croft. It has a cosy sitting room with open fire and has been extended to include a shower room and a large kitchen/dining area. The house has a garden and parking for 3 cars. Very comfortable for 4 people, the property can sleep up to 7.

The Torridon mountains and Beinne Eighe are approx. 40 mins drive away. Plockton, with its unique climate is 45 mins drive.

A little further afield, ideal for a day out, you will find Gairloch with its wonderful sandy beach, the famous Inverewe Gardens and Loch Maree.

Closer to home there are plenty of scenic walks on the Applecross peninsula and the Applecross Estate has many well signed walks.

Enjoy local seafood in the various pubs, restaurants and cafes in the area.

We've stayed in the Applecross area many times, but using a different company for accommodation. The house itself was a good size, but unfortunately was dirty. There are no curtains or blinds at the large kitchen window which directly overlooks another property, at the shower room window or any of the upstairs windows. The kitchen cupboards were dirty and disorganised. The fridge was dirty inside. We had to vacuum and mop the floors before we could relax.

Other than that the area is lovely and quiet and near to a private beach.

The Applecross walled garden once again provided an excellent meal one evening and the Applecross Inn was as welcoming as ever.

We did venture to Sheildaig one day, but both Nanny's and the restaurant were closed. Did manage to purchase some live squat lobsters from Mandy at the Smokehouse, which we dashed back and enjoyed for lunch!

Applecross is a lovely area with some stunning views over to Skye, but we wouldn't stay at this property again.
