This handsome apartment is ideal for relaxing during a weekend or a short holiday. Unfortunately, we cannot accept pets and we do not have wifi [which is available at café hotspots nearby] . About GWYNN JONES
While living further north in Wales we bought this apartment because we enjoy visits to our wonderful capital city of Cardiff. We selected Penarth because is offers so much in stylish town and so we plan to continue using the apartment when our guests are not using it.
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
Cardiff Bay is nearby where sailing and power boating take place. An artificial white water canoe slalom and rafting centre can offer excitement as well as an indoor surfing centre.
The seafront with promenade and interesting refurbished pier is less than a mile away. Sea angling takes place off the pier and further west there are good beaches, and places that are ideal for surfing.
Cardiff airport is not very far away and a taxi to Penarth should be available for about £20
The M4 motorway (Junction 33) is just under 10 miles away. Cardiff city is 5 miles away.
The compact centre of Penarth has a number of unique and stylish shops such as Hamptons, with unusual gifts and a lovely eatery. Barnums toy shop is a virtual Alladin’s cave for children. These are complemented by fashion shops for men and women and a variety of restaurants and coffee shops. As you might expect, four of the supermarket chains have convenience stores here, but you may chose to buy from independent butchers, greengrocers or a baker.
Among its attractions, Penarth boasts a refurbished Pier Pavilion, a promenade and Alexandra Park. You can drive the half mile or stroll down to the seafront Esplanade through Alexandra Park. The pier jutting out into the Bristol Channel offers views to Somerset and the nearby islands of Flatholm and Steepholm. Fishermen and people out for a stroll can enjoy the pier and visit the cinema and café and art gallery in the Pier Pavilion.
Walk north and within 10 minutes you will see a panorama of Cardiff Bay. Close to the Portway Penarth Marina entrance are the impressive lock gates of Cardiff Bay. From here you can take a leisurely, traffic free stroll along the Barrage to Windsor Quay with its restaurants and shops. And there are a host of other places of interest to visit including the Millenium Theatre complex, Pier Head Building Exhibition, The National Assembly building and the Norwegian Church. Information about other Cardiff attractions within easy reach and further afield will be found in your Holiday Folder and bookshelf in the lounge.
Approximately a mile away is the opportunity to swim in the Cogan Leisure Centre. Travel southward and visit the lake and surrounding Cosmeston Country Park with its medieval village.
