About kate Holdom

My husband and I have two children and in 1997 we moved from London with our two young children for an idyllic life in Cornwall. We did indeed have 7 fabulous years in Kingsand until family circumstances meant that we had

to move back to London for a time. Kingsand is truly unique place which we all love and miss greatly. We hope you too enjoy our wonderful home and village.

kate Holdom purchased this house in 2007

Why kate Holdom chose South East Cornwall

Whilst on a tour of Cornwall with a friend I visited Kingsand almost by accident.

On the same trip we visited St Ives, Rock, Padstow and other famous places in Cornwall but for us, none of them compared. We hear this time and again from people who visit.

We feel Kingsand is quite a unique place and hard not to fall in love with. The village is a really friendly place, very much unchanged by time and stunning whatever the weather. Visitors always comment on how much their children love the freedom they are afforded by the safety in the village, a rare thing today. A favorite with little visitors is being sent to the shop, money and list in hand getting the Sunday paper and fresh baked croissants…..very grown up.

What makes this house unique

We hope you enjoy our house and this fabulous area as much as we do.

PS:This place is also doggy heaven!

Property not really up to the standard expected of a property of a high calibre

  • 3 of 5

Fridge/freezer not working on arrival. Had to use cool boxes for 2 days. Had to defrost freezer, and wait in for delivery of new one as according to owner everyone was away. House in a great location.

A Fantastic Home & Setting - Perfect For Families

  • 5 of 5

The property had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing. Comfortable beds, ample room for all the family, well maintained and very clean. The property is positioned in the perfect area for exploring, long walks with dogs and is within reach of lots of Cornwall's beautiful coastal villages and towns. Although there is no need to venture far as Kingsand has the scenery, the walks, good places to eat and drink (Afternoon tea at The Old Bakery is the best!). The little ferry is a short pleasurable trip over to Plymouth. Overall I would recommend this property.

Coast/Beach:

A mixture of sand & shingle, there are three main beaches in the villages of Kingsand & Cawsand. All beaches are ideal for swimming, sailing & rock-pooling.

Whitsand Bay: A stunning walk or a few minutes drive will take you to a 7km stretch of perfect sandy beaches with its own surf school.

Kayaking, diving and snorkelling are also popular as is sea angling, with a good variety of fish being caught from the rocks or further out on boats.

Travel:

4.5 hours drive from London

Nearest railway: Plymouth or St Germans 33 km

The Cremyll passenger ferry departs from Stonehouse, Plymouth and arrives in the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe which is a short bus ride or taxi ride to the village.

1.5 hours from Exeter airport.

Distances:

Between March and October there is a delightful passenger ferry (the Red Pig) that departs from Cawsand Beach and takes passengers to the Barbican steps in Plymouth where you can walk to the city centre, the Hoe, Aquarium or enjoy the atmosphere and restaurants of the famous Barbican.

Further Details:

We are in a conservation area of outstanding natural beauty. The South West Coastal path runs through the village providing a range of coastal and countryside walks.

The historic village of St. Germans and Port Elliot House are well worth a visit as is the nearby Edgcumbe House and Gardens and the National Trust's Anthony House. There is a well stocked village store in Kingsand and a delightful deli which sells it's own hand made specialty breads. A Co-op, Spar and cash point in the neighbouring village of Millbrook (2miles). All the main supermarkets will deliver to the village. There are charming passenger ferries that will take you to the trendy Royal William Yard which boasts an array of boutiques and restaurants.
