House in Es Castell, Menorca, Balearic Islands - A Beautiful Location, Plenty To See And Do Within Walking Distances, The Whole Year Around
The view you see is the view you will get. This well equipped house has a wonderful bay window in the living room and a rooftop bedroom suite with very large terrace with stunning views. Close to Menorca's southern sandy beaches and approximately 3 km east of the capital Mahon. The house is an excellent base for people who want to explore the island and enjoy probably one of best locations for summer evenings out on Menorca. The delightful waterside promenade for daytime or evening strolls is just below the house. The numerous cafes entice you to sit down for a cup of coffee or drink a Mahon gin and tonic. There is a good selection of shops, supermarkets, banks (inc ATMs), restaurants and bars (no loud music) favoured by locals and tourists alike within a few minutes walk, that are open the whole year round. While there is no beach at Es Castell there are secluded places to take a swim nearby. There are sunbathing platforms at lovely Cala Padera, within a 10 minute walk from the house. There is a network of pretty camis (little country roads) with villages and hamlets to explore on foot or bicycle. A popular diving centre is just 15 min drive away. The distance to the airport is only 7 km.

We simply loved it.......!
Thank you so much for your kind words about our property in Menorca. We are happy you enjoyed your stay and regret it that Andy could not stay the whole week. It was fantastic to meet you three in person and we loved the day we were spending with you. Thanks again for the great lunch you offered us and please accept ours when you come back to Menorca. We hope that we will see you again.

About the Owner
The first time we experienced Menorca was when we were looking for a property what was far away from our work in The Netherlands and where we could relax with our children and enjoy good weather conditions.
We were tipped by someone who knew the house named Cariño in Es Castell for 25 years and saw it was for sale. So we went to Menorca, and yes, it was love at first sight! The view is never boring, Es Castell is never sleeping, the coast is always nearby, the people always nice, the food formidable...
After 13 years there one thing we know, we will never sell our Cariño home and even our grown-up children still enjoy going there with friends.
A never ending story for our family and all the friends who join us there.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Coffee with a bocadillo down at the harbour, a lazy swim at Cala Torret with a picnic of pan, sobrasada and menorca queso, and finishing the day with wine on the lovely rooftop terrace. What more can you ask for. A place to remember. Birgitta (Amersfoort, the Netherlands)

We simply loved it.......!
It was the cover photo that we were smitten with - an amazing view from a fabulous terrace - and it really is like this when you are there, including the feeling you get when you first see the photo - amazing view and yet very private, a wonderful place to have your breakfast or a sun-downer! The best bit about the terrace is that there is a bedroom off the terrace, so you can step out onto it with the sunrise, which you can see from your bed if you leave the door open! The property itself is very spacious and comfortable, with everything you need. It is very conveniently situated - all you need is literally on your doorstep - a picturesque harbour with a choice of several very good restaurants (you can have breakfast there, too), a supermarket around the corner, lovely bakery two streets away, a pharmacy, and more bars lining the streets. If you don't have a car (which we didn't), a taxi stand with taxis on hand at all times is a few yards from the house - a trip to Mahon is around €8 and takes about 10 mins. Mahon itself if a pretty town with its own market, trendy shops and lovely cafes. You can also catch a bus to Mahon from Es Castell, and from Mahon to many places on the island. We made the bus journey from Mahon to the beautiful historical Ciutadella, on the other side of the island (the express bus takes 45mins, normal bus journey takes 1hr, with a few stops, €10.20 return ticket per person). We were very lucky to have met the very friendly owners of this property, Rene and Frederike, who couldn't have been more forthcoming and helpful - who form a lovely memory of our first - and definitely not the last, trip to Menorca. Thank you Rene and Frederike for a fabulous time!
We loved this house!
If you want to be within walking distance of all amenities (waterfront, restaurants, bars, supermarket, bakery, taxi rank) with fabulous views and very comfortable accommodation to boot, this is the house for you. A garage on site is an added advantage, as street parking in Es Castell is tricky. All areas of the house are well designed and to a high standard in terms of both comfort and convenience. A very good kitchen is provided though, given the abundance of great restaurants in the Mahon/Sant Luis area, we didn't actually do much cooking! (We would recommend La Caraba, Pan y Vino - always great - and Alcaufar Vell - first visit this year, but definitely a favourite. Taxis around 12 - 15 euros to these destinations.) We all agreed it was one of the best houses/locations we've ever stayed in.
Jewel in the Crown
This amazing and beautiful house, Carinyo, stands overlooking Calas Fonts which is part of Mahon harbour in Menorca.
Carinyo is a three floors high, everyone decorated to high standards by the owners Rene and Frederike van der Weijden with a little help from local celebrity artist Marc Jesus and his 'Blue Ladies'.
Walking in from the street you are presented with very comfortable solid 8 seater dining table then into a spacious kitchen that is better equipped than ours at home. The garage leads off the kitchen which has full laundry facilities.
At the top of the stairs leading up to the next floor is one of Marc Jesus's paintings. This floor has a double bedroom, a three bedded children's room and a family bathroom. Also on this floor is spacious lounge with huge bay windows giving panoramic views of Calas Fonts and beyond.
The next and final floor is different again. This is the roof terrace and also accommodates a double en suite bedroom. There is a fridge in the wardrobe which was handy for drinks on the terrace. On the terrace is a 8 seater dining table, various armchairs a huge wind up sun shade. The views from the terrace are unprecedented. From people watching in Calas Fonts below to seeing the various boats going through Mahon harbour. We've watched the sun rise over La Mola and set over Es Castell.
Calas Fonts is plentiful in bars, restaurants and small shops, too many to mention. One bar we did visit for a cooling 'cana' is Pindapoi situated on the waters edge close to the hotel Hamilton just around the corner from Calas Fonts in Moll de'n Pons.
We had a wonderful family holiday and fully recommend Carinyo.
Beautiful apartment over 3 floors. Fabulous views. Fantastic location for restaurants. 👍🏻😎

Fabulous house in stunning location and amazing views from roof terrace that you never get tired of
WOW !! What a wonderful holiday we have had in this fabulous, clean, well equipped house. Everything you could imagine needing is there, it was so nice to be able to wash beach towels ready for the next day. The lounge is very comfortable and relaxing with lovely big windows that open wide to let in a welcome breeze, with the most amazing view of the stunning Calla Fonts. The bedrooms have comfortable beds with nice soft pillows and all have air conditioning which was very welcoming some nights. There is plenty of storage and wardrobe space with many hangers. There's a large clean family bathroom. The best place in the house is definitely the roof top terrace, i never got tired of the stunning view while people watching and the boats and cruise ships passing by. It has everything you need from sun lounges, comfortable chairs, umbrella and barbecue. we enjoyed having our breakfast on here every morning and one night we even had a take away Paella made for us which was lovely to sit and relax with a glass of wine and the fabulous views after a full day at Son Bou beach. Getting out and exploring this beautiful Island is so easy and cheap to do by bus, the house is perfectly situated a few minutes walk from the bus stop. Its also in a minutes walk to numerous bars and restaurants there is enough choice to eat somewhere different every night. A big thank you to the lovely owners for renting out their family home.
A lovely house in a very desirable location'
This was our second visit to this lovely house which is by far the largest, best equipped and nicely furnished property we’ve rented on the island. On arrival, the house was spotlessly clean and tidy. An ice bucket with chilled Cava and a can of Coke for our son together with glasses was waiting for us; a very nice touch :-) The owners description and photographs are very accurate. The house is in an excellent location overlooking the 'picture postcard' harbour of Cales Fonts. It has a large, bright, well equipped kitchen adjacent to the large dining area with heavy wooden table and beautiful white leather chairs. This year the lounge had the addition of internet TV, mini hifi with bluetooth, but the same great views! The view from the roof terrace is even better, with stunning views of Cales Fonts, Lazareto, La Mola and the large variety of boats entering and leaving Mahon's harbour and marinas. Cameras with 'panorama mode' and binoculars are highly recommended for the terrace (the owners even provided pair of binoculars for guests this year)! The bedrooms are very spacious with plenty of storage space. The first floor bathroom is large and well equipped. The bathroom of the roof terrace bedroom is more compact, but perfectly OK for two of us; the view from the bedroom in the morning is a great way to start the day! If you can't find any 'on street parking', the garage is perfect for small to medium sized cars (after a bit of practice reversing in!). The remote control for the garage door was a very useful addition to keep in the car this year! The owners have provided a wide selection of leaflets, maps and guide books for things to do and places to eat; these allow guests the opportunity to sample some of the less 'touristy' places on the island.
We've visited Menorca several times over the last few years, so the owners suggestions of new places to visit and eat were very welcome.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely house to future guests and very much hope to visit again soon.
From the Owner
“The location is one of the best you can imagine to relax and enjoy the local atmosphere. The local people ensure a lively atmosphere all year round. The main square, with weekly markets and festival activities (like Fiesta de San Juan at the end of July), is only minutes walk from the house. Saunter over the promenade at Calas Fonts harbour just below the house and enjoy the atmosphere of the people, restaurants, bars and shops.”

“This house has the advantage of being in a small town, close to the main square and the harbour. The magnificent view over the harbour and all the ships that pass by on their way to Mahon. There is always something to see and to do. The village Es Castell doesn't sleep. Most of the shops stay open the whole year around. The house is convenient the whole year long.”
