About the Owner

At Menslaws we farm sheep, grow fruit and vegetables in the walled garden and enjoy having guests. Originally I'm from West of Scotland, but have lived in various parts of England. I studied at Edinburgh University and have three, grown up children of whom I am very proud.

Cosy peaceful cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We wanted a quiet relaxing week and that is absolutely what we got. The cottage was really cosy and we enjoyed having a real fire - although it took us a little while to get back into dealing with a coal fire. The cottage is perfectly located for visiting all the border towns with only short distances to travel to all of them.

Comfortable cottage in rural location.

  • 5 of 5

Our three night stay was to visit and be visited by family members including young children. The cottage provided all the essentials for a short stay. It's location near to the A68 was one of the reasons for booking. The garden provided space for young children to run around, and the peaceful location and comfortable beds allowed the grandparents a good nights sleep. There are a lot of attractions in the Border area within easy driving distance. We visited the Teviot Water Gardens near Kelso which the adults and children enjoyed and it was free!

Beautiful property on stunning land

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a stay here with my partner and 3 children and what a wonderful time we had. Marjorie is a lovely host, showed us around and kindly told us we were welcome to wander round the walled garden and through her land. We loved seeing all the wildlife around and saw rabbits in the garden everyday. Really wish we could have stayed longer.

A lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our weekend at Stable cottage. Marjorie was helpful in responding to emails and was there to welcome us, both to the cottage and to the fields and woods and the walled garden. We had a great time exploring. The cottage was clean and comfortable, it had everything we needed, including a coal fire for a cold June day! It is so peaceful and quiet, with lots of singing birds and a few rabbits on the lawn in front the cottage. We even saw a fox on our walk. .Stable cottage is a lovely place to stay and we would have been happy to stay longer.

Beautiful characterful cottage set on a farm

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is well equipped, with beautiful character features. Plenty of books and board games, lovely enclosed garden with gates but our three year old soon opened them.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Stable Cottage was built in the 19th Century and sits next to the Victorian stables (currently not in use). It is in an idyllic setting; a wonderful place particularly for those who love birdsong, trees and wildlife. You are welcome to walk around the walled-garden, through the woodland and along the river banks. You can even fish from our banks in the Teviot or Rule. Find time also to explore the surrounding area with its four Border Abbeys, Floors Castle, Walter Scotts' country and many other places and towns of interest, not forgetting that Edinburgh, is only 48 miles away. To round of your day there are some excellent local restaurants and inns in the area if you fancy eating out. Outside: There is a large lawn surrounded by flowerbeds at the front of the house. The patio area is ideal for sitting out for a meal or drink and the grassed area is perfect for playing games. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and the property is cleaned weekly.
