Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
2 bedroom cottage in peaceful location within walking distance of Ventnors shops and beach.

Southgrove View Cottage is in the traditional seaside town of Ventnor. With fabulous sea views from each of the three floors it is a well equipped home from home with a fresh, coastal style. Ventnor is a traditional seaside town with everything you need for a great holiday. The town is full of small independent shops, cafes and restaurants with many Victorian buildings that hark back to its Victorian days as a fashionable health resort. Ventnor’s sheltered south facing position makes it one of the sunniest spots in Britain and its clean golden beach is perfect for swimming. Children will love the seafront paddle pool, bucket and spade shops and beach side cafes that line the esplanade! Visitors to Ventnor shouldn't miss the famous Botanic Gardens and Ventnor Down, an area of outstanding natural beauty, but they will find it easy to access everything the Isle of Wight has to offer , unique wildlife, hundreds of different family attractions, 500 miles of footpaths and great hospitality.

About the Owner

I live with my husband in the South of England. We both run our own businesses, and our two daughters have now left home, so we are able to sneak away to our holiday home regularly.

Modest exterior hides a first class interior

  • 5 of 5

Google Earth showed an ordinary Victorian terraced, but we booked anyway and were delighted once stepping inside. Lovely decor, superbly well equipped, genuine sea views (cruise liners passing in the night were captivating). Helen's communications are very welcoming, with a delicious cake, milk etc. on arrival. The only gadget we would have liked: knife sharpener ... in self-catering, blunt-ish knives are the norm! What do people do with 'em? Highly recommended.

Best holiday cottage by far

  • 5 of 5

As the title says, this is the nicest self catering rental property we have stayed in. The house is clean, well decorated and everything is to a high standard of comfort and convenience. The pint of milk and locally made cake on arrival were just some of the little touches that make a difference to the holiday experience. We had a brilliant weekend and would love to return for longer with the children in future. Highly recommended.

Top quality holiday house with a great view.

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect holiday home in every sense. Spotlessly clean, fully equipped, very comfortable and cosy warm (it was a cold week in Ventnor!).

The owner has thought of everything and more. The cake on arrival was a lovely surprise and very tasty indeed.

It's location is perfect for exploring the island and for energetic walks down to (and back up from!) Ventnor. It was a daily treat to come back from a day out and sit in the lounge bay window looking out to sea with the binoculars provided with a fresh cup of cafetiere coffee (again provided by the owner!)

I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Excellent base for exploring the Isle of Wight

  • 5 of 5

The property is immaculately clean, well maintained and has superb attention to detail. Everything you could imagine you'd want in a holiday property is there from a PlayStation for the kids to buckets, spades and beach gear. Lovely views to sea from the living room and master bedroom.

Ventnor is a great place to stay, loads of good places to eat and drink and the paddling pool is a winner for small children. Visit the ice cream parlour for probably the best ice cream you'll ever have. Take a walk also to Steephill Cove for a crab pasty - awesome!

Brilliant Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time in this lovely house, first time in November 2014 and May 2015. This house has everything you could possibly need, great attention to detail and in easy reach of the town. Very clean and well presented.

Would recommend the restaurant at The Botanical Gardens for lunch, and Cantina in the town for breakfast. Steephill Cove is a lovely place and not too far to walk from Ventnor Park, the Cafe at Steephill Cove served amazing crab sandwiches, worth a visit. We would certainly recommend this house to friends and family and will return sometime in the near future. Many thanks to Helen

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many self-catering holiday homes over the years and can honestly say that Southgrove View is one of the best - really well equipped, tastefully decorated and with a very comfortable bed (great bed linen too!). If steep stairs are a problem then this may not be the house for you but my husband managed them fine, six weeks after his hip operation, and the fact that the bus stops outside is a great bonus.

Location

From the Owner

We chose to buy in Ventnor because the Isle of Wight has always been a favourite location of ours and I have very fond childhood memories of it. Island life is always more relaxed and as soon as you get on the ferry you feel like you are on holiday. Ventnor is a lovely, traditional seaside town that makes you feel like you have stepped back in time to a gentler age!

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Ventnor's golden beach is a five minute drive or a 12 minute, downhill walk away. The beach has a traditional seaside feel with beach huts and deckchairs available to hire and a variety of independent cafes and shops.

All of the Isle of Wights beaches are within easy travelling distance of the cottage.

Distances:

The town of Ventnor with it's wide variety of independent shops, cafes and restaurants is a 7 minute downhill walk away. Ventnor Botanical Gardens is a ten minute drive.

Facilities

From the Owner

The property has lovely sea views from all floors and sits on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty, with fantastic walks, either on the Downs behind the cottage or along the coast. Ventnor is known for it's good restaurants and interesting independent shops, many selling great Isle of Wight produce. The cottage is within walking distance of so many great cafes and restaurants that you can stay for a fortnight and not get round them all!
