The Lookout is a luxury South Devon holiday home in Broadsands, Torbay. The property has been completely refurbished in April 2014 to a very high standard. It is a stunning three bedroom bungalow overlooking the blueflag Broadsands beach & Torbay. It offers the perfect self catering holiday accommodation for the larger family holiday or two couples sharing. The house can comfortably sleeps 4 adults and 2 children and includes all modern conveniences including complementary wi-fi. Broadsands beach is easily approached (500m) down a public footpath which leads from the road above to the beach. With stunning coastal views from the living area and raised decking, it’s also an ideal place to sit and watch the steam trains go by or to venture further afield to Brixham, Dartmouth or the South Hams.

About the Owner

We are a family of 5 and have owned the Lookout since 2013 and totally refurbishing it in 2014. We make several visits each year. Our young children love Broadsands beach, crabbing in nearby Stoke Gabriel and all the local activities in Torbay and we love the South Devon Coastal path and visiting the villages and resorts in The South Hams.

Great house.

We had a excellent time in this modern house. It had everything you need and more. You could spend hours just relaxing in the big living room enjoying the view. Just a 5 min walk from broadsands beach and trail system. We will be back again.

Lovely Relaxing holiday

Bella age nearly two, Claire her mum, Viv, Nana and Pearl ,age 88 Great Nana, stayed in this lovely property. Close to safe sandy beaches which Bella loved and Great Nana enjoyed watching her. Easy access to Goodrington Sands for disabled. Property very comfortable and everything you need there. Just a little challenging for Great Nana to get up steps to property and a steep drive. Overall we wish to come back!

Lovely little part of the world

Wonderful short break with the children and grandparents. Ideally situated. Stunning views, spent ages just looking out across Torbay and watching the steam train. Walking distance to a brilliant beach. Local shop and licensed restaurant/cafe (Squires Fish and Chips). 10 minutes drive from just about all the attractions/shops/fabulous restaurants/swimming pool.

Despite cold wind and rain we had an action packed holiday with the most luxurious accommodation to return to at the end of the day.

Lovely comfortable beds and very child friendly. Great for cooking if you are on a tighter budget. We look forward to staying again in future!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay. We love the beautiful views too and the beach is perfect for young children. We also like the Weary Ploughman which is local or the pub in Galmpton plus the many fish restaurants in Brixham. Comfortable beds are very important to us and we strive to provide a well stocked kitchen as we know that it is expensive and not practical to eat out all the time! We look forward to you returning in the future!!

Amazing views from a gorgeous cottage

We have just returned from an amazing short break at the Lookout. The property is extremely well stocked and furnished to a very high standard throughout. It is in immaculate condition and felt like a real luxury escape to the coast.

The view from the decking with the steam train and the ocean in the background is just beautiful. Could have easily slept 2 smaller families, or a family and grandparents, but was perfect for our family of 5. It is in a quiet residential location and a little way from the shops, so probably not that suitable if you don't have a car (unless you want to spend your time very locally).

That said our kids loved the walk down to the two local beaches (took about 10 mins to get to Broadsands and 15 through idyllic country lanes to get to Elberry Cove) and we could have easily spent the whole time in and around the house.

We got some delicious fresh fish for dinner from the wholesalers in Brixham, and had a great day pottering in Dartmouth and crabbing at Stoke Gabriel (think kids caught over 50 crabs!). Local pub was beautiful too - Churston Court Inn.

We would definitely recommend it to ramblers, young families and anyone looking to make the most of what South Devon has to offer. We would love to come back.

Tyne and Wear

1st class

We stayed in the bungalow for a couple of weeks at the end June 2014 and were delighted to find it was absolutely 1st class. The views were great, it was peaceful and an excellent base for enjoying all of the local trips, boats and trains. We also recommend going to Ayur one of the many restaurants in Brixham, which was where we went most nights and is only a 10 minute drive away.

We would very much like to return when we get a chance.

It is perfectly located in the middle of South Devon between the South Hams villages of Salcombe, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and the lively resorts of Goodrington, Brixham & Torquay meaning rain or shine there is always something to do!

Activity and Interests


Broadsands beach is easily approached (500m) down a public footpath which leads from the road above to the beach. The Marine Conservation Good Beach Guide lists Broadsands Beach amongst its top recommended beaches Elberry cove is an idyllic, pretty pebble beach with beautiful clear water. It can be reached by a footpath from the house that goes though a field or two.


Fly to Exeter (30miles) or Bristol (90miles). Ferry to Plymouth (30miles). Trains come into Paignton (4miles). Car hire highly recommended to take advantage of exploring the surrounding area.


Brixham (2.5 miles)

Churston (0.5 miles)

Galmpton (1 mile)


Further Details:

Places of interest include Brixham, the historic picturesque fishing town which hides the working fishing community. The River Dart, Dartmouth, Totnes & Torquay are all a short drive away. The nearest pub, the Churston Court Inn, is a 10/15min walk and is a historical 12th century coaching inn located next to the church in Churston. Whilst local amenities include award winning fish and chips shop, a small shop in a nearby parade of shops or the Churston Farm shop a short drive away.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park for grown ups & children alike

Greenway – beloved holiday home of Agatha Christie with trips down the River Dart
