Set in the heart of an old Andalucian Village, less than an hour from Malaga Airport with regular flights from all the major UK airports, and only a short drive or bus ride to Nerja, Frigiliana is one of the most picturesque Andalucía ‘White Villages’. This small house is filled with character and charm. The village is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets lined with white-washed houses and best explored on foot as there is very limited access by car. The old historical centre of Frigiliana, distinctively Moorish in appearance and design, is a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets and alleyways. Exploring these narrow streets you will discover many small shops selling local products and artefacts. There are many bars and restaurants throughout the village. Situated in the Almijara, Tejeda and Alhama mountains its history has been recorded way back into the 16th Century. The hill overlooking the village, El Fuerte, was the scene of the final battle, and defeat, of the Axarquia Moors in their rebellion of 1569. On top of the hill are a few remains of the old fort from which it is said that many Moors threw themselves from it rather than be captured by the Christians. The rio Higuerón runs in the valley below the town, the walk down to it offers stunning views of the valley and the town and is a wonderful place for a nature ramble or picnic.
