Villa With Private Pool and Views Over the Valle D'itria, Puglia

Updated: 15-Sep-2016
Villa in Valle d'Itria, Martina Franca, Taranto, Puglia, Italy - Peaceful Location, 35 Minutes Drive to the Sea, 15 Minutes to Alberobello's World Heritage Site

Casa L'Oliveto (formerly Villa Rosa) is situated in the gently rolling countryside of the Valle d'Itria in Puglia. The popular towns of Martina Franca, Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino are in close proximity, and the characteristic trulli can be seen dotted all over the surrounding countryside. The villa boasts a beautifully landscaped private swimming pool in its own fenced area for security. It is being tiled with mosaic tiles early Spring 2015. There is a Puglian stone barbecue with patio for al fresco eating and drinking at the rear of the property, and a terracotta tiled veranda to the front, all with countryside views. The interior comprises a large sitting room, sizeable well-equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room. Central heating is available for chillier evenings, also a large log burner. Private parking area. Accessed by a short farm track off the Martina Franca-Alberobello road, so a peaceful location.

About the Owner

I retired from a long career in primary school teaching a few years ago and decided to buy Villa Rosa in Puglia, Italy. It has brought my friends and me a great deal of pleasure. Now it is time to share it with the wider public. I take great care of it, and have a manager based in Puglia to help me with maintenance and service.

Relaxed, private pool, clean, good location

I chose this property because it was within reach of many places we wanted to visit in Southern Italy. However, i wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of tourst time during the Summer. It fitted the bill perfectly. Many places to see within easy reach, and many, many restaurants nearby if we felt like eating out. The house itself is well maintained, clean and comfortable. There is an abundance of linen and towels even beach towels which was great. The kitchen is everything you need for a holiday and the various outdoor seating areas made it lovely to sit out in the shade for breakfast. The pool area is fab with new looking, comfy sunbeds, and glamorous lighting for splashing about in the evening. Not overlooked in the pool area as neighbours are far off, and obscured by olive trees etc. We had three children with us (18, 13 and 8) and they loved the relaxed atmosphere and the feeling of being at home the villa gives off. They ummed and arrred about the no wifi, and their honest feedback is that they didnt miss it. No TV was great as we were able to mess about together and have fun as a family. Rosemary is very attentive without being too much, and nothing was too much trouble. Some issues on the first day of arrival were sorted within 2 hours. Bearing in mindit was a Bank holiday in Italy, and Rosemary was on her way to Wales i have to say, was impressive. A shopping bag of items we had requested was available on arrival which was lovely, and a bottle of vino, which was even better :-). I have recommeded the villa to some friends, as i cannot fault any part of our time with Rosemary and her lovely villa. The handbook is good, not too long, or full of rules, and we used it almost every day to plan a visit to a nearby town, which i have to say, are amazing.

A lovely tranquil holiday

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Rosemary,

We had a lovely time in your wonderful villa, the weather was excellent, the pool was very much needed at the end of each day, by us all.

We took 3 teenagers with us, and although to there dismay there was no wifi, and TV, even they managed to do with out, and it ment we actually talk and played cards each evening, so that for me was a big plus.

I would highly recommend Villa Rosa, if you are looking for a quite, but beautiful retreat, away from the hussle and bussle, but near enough to some very wonderful parts off Italy.

Also Rosemary was on hand to help with anything we needed by text, and nothing was to much trouble for her, which we really appreciated.

We would definitely stay there again

Thank you Rosemary.

A beatiful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish Rosemary, the owner, was lovely and did all she could to make our stay as hassle free as possible, including arranging for a cot to be at the villa. It's perfectly situated to enjoy this amazing part of Italy, but the pool and gardens make is very hard to leave! The peace and quiet was such a break and the pool area was very safe for our young family. To make the most of the area I'd suggest hiring a car. The weather, beaches, local towns and food made this a very memorable holiday.

From the Owner

I love this area of Italy because of its gently-rolling countryside sprinkled with 'trulli'. It's very Italian and not too 'touristy'. I bought the villa as it was cool and spacious with lovely countryside views. I added a swimming pool which has greatly improved the property, and it is particularly attractively landscaped. I went to Puglia with the idea of purchasing a trullo, but, although they were very pretty, there was not enough space for me and I found them rather dark. The villa was so much roomier and lighter.

Activity and Interests

The nearest beach resort is Torre Canne which is about a 40 minute drive away. There are beaches which are nearer, but without the facilities of a resort. If you prefer to be away from resorts, there are rocky bays and sandy beaches all down the Adriatic coast.

The airports of Bari to the north and Brindisi to the south are each less than 1hr and a half's drive from Villa Rosa. Car hire is essential as public transport is very limited. The flight from UK takes about 2 and a half hours and there are direct flights to Bari from Stansted and Gatwick with Easyjet, Ryanair and BA. Also Alitalia flies from Heathrow, transferring in Rome or Milan.

The Baroque town of Martina Franca is only approx 3 miles away, while Alberobello with its characteristic 'trulli' is a 15 minute drive. Locorotondo, which has a lovely Old Town and stunning views is about 10 minutes drive. Egnazia with its well-preserved Roman ruins is approx a half-hour drive. The white hilltop town of Ostuni is 45 mins away (well worth a visit). Lecce is another beautiful old city, about 2 and a half hour's drive, or a train journey.

Further Details:

In recent years the towns in the Valle d'Itria have become more tourist-friendly, now with plenty of restaurants at reasonable prices, and supermarkets with a wealth of local produce as well as items you might find at home. The markets are also a useful source of shopping and are good fun to visit. There are banks and ATMs at Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Alberobello.

From the Owner

The villa is up a short farm track, but close to the MartinaFranca/Alberobello road. Nearby places of interest are easily accessible. Your holiday can be as lively or as quiet as you choose. Some people barely leave the villa for a week, others explore the entire area. It's your choice! There is plenty of space for children to run about in the olive grove, not to mention the attractive pool area(under adult supervision). I have found local restaurateurs and shopkeepers very friendly and helpful. Not many speak English, but quite a few are learning as the area becomes better-known. You can be sure of a good welcome in Puglia!

  • Notes on accommodation: Casa L'Oliveto is not set up for modern technology, though the mobile signal is fair. There is plenty to do in the area and it is an escape from the demands of everyday working life. There is an iron (rarely used) but no ironing board. There is no tumble drier, but there is rarely a need for one, as there are adequate washing lines in the olive grove. There is no air conditioning, but if the doors/windows are kept shut during the day, the villa stays at a comfortable temperature. Windows can be opened in the evenings if desired as there are mosquito guards installed in each one. Outside: There is an olive grove with 16 olive trees. The olives are harvested in late November. There is a patio with table/chairs and plants at the front of the villa, also a rear patio with a handsome beast of a barbecue in local stone, with table and chairs. There are 2 small tables and a set of pool chairs/sunbeds and umbrellas around the private 10 metre long pool. All areas have attractive plants which are kept watered by an irrigation system. CHILDREN MUST BE SUPERVISED IN THE POOL ENCLOSURE. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. The property is cleaned and beds prepared for your visit, and is cleaned after you leave. There are enough towels and linen should you wish to change linen yourselves during your stay
