About Rebecca Hunter

My name is Rebecca and I live in Pembrokeshire with my partner Peter and dogs Quail and Puffin.

Rebecca Hunter purchased this house in 2012

Why Rebecca Hunter chose Fishguard, Newport, The Preseli Hills & Bluestone

I started building the house in January 2013 and it was finished in June 2014. It took a while but finally it's finished and I am very pleased with the result!

Since it is in the centre of Newport the house has all the convenience of being able to walk pretty much anywhere; along to the shops, down to the river, over to the Parrog, and it is just a stone's throw from several fantastic restaurants!

What makes this house unique

The house is traditionally built but has a very contemporary, modern interior. It is light, airy and spacious for summer living but with underfloor heating and a wood burner would be very cosy for a winter stay.

My partner and I have stayed in a lot of holiday houses over the years, both here in the UK and abroad. We like to think that we have learned what people need and want from a their holiday accommodation and how this can really make or break their holiday.

Since we have actually built this house ourselves we have really been able to design/decorate/equip from scratch and feel it really works!

Guestbook comments from the manager

'We couldn't have asked more more whilst staying in your delightful cottage! A home from home experience, everything was catered for!'

'…superbly stocked kitchen, lovely garden, and bodyboards for the children to use at the beach. This is definitely the best holiday home we have stayed in!'

'A really relaxing and charming place to come back to at the end of the day… a chilled glass of wine and BBQ in the garden - perfect all round!'

The house is situated next to a lane that goes down to the estuary and the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. A ten minute walk along this path will take you to The Parrog, Newport's old harbour. The beautiful Newport Sands are a 10 minute car journey away.

Further Details:

For a small town, Newport has a wealth of shops, restaurants and facilities. These include: Bank, Post Office, Chemist, Supermarket, Art galleries, craft shops, lovely cafes and a Monday morning street market.

Excellent restaurants include; The Golden Lion, Llys Meddyg, and Cnapan. These restaurants are very popular and booking is recommended especially at weekends during the summer.

Fantastic cottage from which to explore

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Puffins for an extra long weekend, with extended family and the cottage was absolutely perfect. Deceptively roomy, beautifully decorated inside and very clean, with everything you would need for a comfortable holiday. Nothing had been forgotten.

The courtyard garden is a real suntrap and perfect for any BBQs. A real extension of the house once both doors had been pushed open and lovely to relax in after a days walking.

Rebecca, the owner, had thoughtfully left out some information on local walks - knowing we were intending do some serious walking.

Newport is fantastic. Excellent restaurants - book ahead though - a lovely small high street, eclectic shops - perfect for some holiday brousing, Newport beach and The Parrog plus the mountain overlooking Newport all offering lovely walks for all abilities. We cannot recommend the immediate location enough and the surrounds are great too.

A wonderful sea-sidy cottage in a great location. Cannot recommend enough!

This was our first time at "Puffins" and we found it to be comfortable, well-equipped and in a convenient, easy-to-find location. Each evening we alternated between eating out (either in the restaurant next door, the Golden Lion , or a short walk down the road to "the Canteen" ) and self catering at the cottage.

In the area there's loads to see in the National Park or along the coastal path. We were lucky enough to twice see dolphins and also spotted an otter in the river near Cardigan.

Well equipped, pretty house, located centrally

  • 4 of 5

Great stay in a beautiful part of Wales! Lovely house with sheltered garden, conveniently situated to walk to local shops, pubs and restaurants. Short drive to good beach with shop/cafe and lifeguards. Pretty colourful decor, quality furnishings, very well equipped kitchen. Deckchairs, picnic set and bat and balls provided too! The only downside for a tall family were the low sloping ceilings in the upstairs rooms. The property was well main maintained, the owner was helpful over email and available by phone if required, useful house manuals were provided. Next door to the Golden Lion pub/restaurant which serves good quality food but it was noisy on Friday and Saturdays at closing time. We would definitely recommend the house to friends with the caveats noted above.

Superb holiday accomodation

  • 5 of 5

It felt very welcoming as it was beautifully decorated in relaxing, coordinating colours.Every attention to detail was given regarding the equipment and facilities provided for visitors. The pretty garden was also well-equipped.

Located in the heart of Newport, you could easily walk to the local pubs and cafes as well as the River Nevern and the Parrog area. The Golden Lion pub and the Llys Meddig restaurant were great places to eat and drink.

Highly recommended!

Fabulous cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cottage, right in the heart of Newport and just next door to the Golden Lion pub which apparently does very good food (we can't confirm this as they didn't have any space at all throughout our holiday - must be a good sign!). The house has all the amenities you could ask for and made the perfect base for our family of five (with three boys aged 10, 8 and 5). Rachel was very helpful throughout our stay and answered any questions we had quickly and efficiently.

If you are coming to Newport you will be spoilt for choice with restaurants and places to eat, although you may want to book in advance. The Canteen does superb food and is staffed by some of the loveliest people we have met! The Vic North Cafe and Deli is also very good - we had a lovely breakfast there with some really good coffee! The surrounding beaches are stunning, especially Mwnt, further up the coast. However, the boys had a great time playing in the sand dunes on Newport Beach and beachcombing at low tide. A highlight for my husband was the Pentre Ifan burial chamber (he's an archaeo-bore!), and we all loved Cilgerran Castle, about 20 minutes away.

All in all a fabulous holiday in a lovely village in a very special part of the world, made all the more special by the outstanding accommodation. Thoroughly recommended!
