Lovely character cottage in historic town of St Jean-D'Angely

Sat changeovers only July & August Quite secluded, extremely well located town property set in grounds near St. Jean D’Angely centre. Small Gite. In-ground pool covered parking and large garden. (Pool and gardens shared with 4 bedroom 'Grand Maison' ) The house and gite can be rented together or separately. The house and gite are both self contained, self catering properties and have been recently renovated. Spacious, modern bathroom. Open plan kitchen living area. Modern but rustic character with exposed original beams and stone walls. Off-road, undercover parking in the old stables. Pool fully heated to keep temperature comfortable.

Bathrooms have shower, wc and double vanity units. (bath in main house upstairs)


Kitchen with cooker, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Separate laundry room with washing machine.

Large lounge and separate dining room (adjoins kitchen). Also separate reception room. Seating for at least 10 and features UK TV, DVD, CD etc.

Bed Linen and one towel provided. Change of linen available at 10 Euro/bed (if required).

A fantastic stay. Lovely gite within walking distance of a great selection of sights, bars and restaurants. Only a short stagger from Cognac and the beaches. Justin Leese (Hants. UK)

Marvellous house with a wonderful welcoming ambience. Not too far to the pub, the Creperie or the cash machine! Too hot to do anything much, but not like we had a whole lot of plans anyway. Good stuff. C. Farrell (London UK)

Fab house! Sent out lots of enquiries and very satisfied with our choice. Perfect house for extended family. Lots of communal aeas but plenty of places to chill out. Big house. Perfect pool. Great location.

Our party of 12, including 5 children under the age of 14, spent a week here and we found the property (the Main House plus the Gite) to be the perfect place to gather the family for an anniversary celebration.

Booking the property was stress free, and I found the owner to be pleasant and helpful, and easy to contact.

The description on the site is accurate, although perhaps the photographs don't do justice to the size of the property: the gravel drive is big enough for at least six cars, and the rooms in the Main House are large and well appointed. The Gite is less impressive in comparison, and the kitchen and bedrooms are basic. There is some road noise in the evenings, but it did not disturb us too much in the Main House, and was not noticeable in the Gite. There was no significant noise from neighbouring properties. Apart from the traffic on the road outside, it is a quiet area.

The pool was just the right size, the right temperature, not too deep for youngsters, and very clean and safe. During the week we were there, it was cleaned twice. The small tub, shown in one of the photographs, was not usable while we were there, though.

We found the large covered terrace next to the pool to be useful for meals for the whole party, and cool during the hottest weather.

The local amenities in Saint Jean d'Angeley are very good. The centre is a 5-10 minute walk, and it has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. There are larger supermarkets within 5-10 minutes drive.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Saint Jean d'Angeley and our day trips to Rochefort and the beach at Royan. We would happily stay there again and thoroughly recommend the whole property for any other large family group considering a relaxing holiday.

Stunning house. Great location.

A long drive and we were delighted to arrive whilst still warm . Slightly confused on arrival as road side of house is nothing like photos but once you open the gates, it really has the wow factor. Great pool . House very nice, spacious, but quickly we realised there were things that hadn't been thought through. Had to ask for more towels- as although provided, we're few and small. Only 2 fans, but 4 bedrooms. Kitchen essentials missing. 1 chopping board, no coffee machine, no toaster - it felt like it had never been 'lived in'. A ' welcome pack' would have been nice - such a bore after a 7 hour drive to have to shop for basics. The upstairs bedrooms are very very noisy (traffic) if you sleep with open windows. Which made life difficult in the heat. I pillow per person - small complaints but would make such a difference.

The town was lovely, good bars and restaurants. Location good for the beach and other larger towns. Overall very good butility could have been perfect with a few small tweaks

Fabulous House and Garden

We loved our holiday here. The house was exactly as described.

The rooms were clean and bright. The living room was huge and the second living area was handy for us to use in the evenings while ours sons used the main living room. The kitchen had everything we needed and we love to cook.

The garden and pool area were used nearly every day - we were lucky with great weather in early June. The covered BBQ area was great too.

Proximity to the town and lake recreation area was very handy. Our sons could wander out without having to pile into the car. Once you entered the gates of this villa it felt like you were out in the country so it's the best of both worlds.

The town is beautiful to stroll around. Everything was so close. It would be nice perhaps to have a few bikes there.

Perfect family holiday

We had a perfect family get together here. The heated pool and surroundings were great. The children particularly enjoyed the table tennis, basketball hoop and badminton. The terrace was perfect for evening BBQs. The house was in a good location and we enjoyed many meals out in the town which was a 5 minute stroll from the house. Good shopping centre close to the house also. Also convenient for a day trip to La Rochelle. All in all a fantastic holiday and we hope to return.

St. Jean D'Angely itself. skyline of this medieval town is dominated by the twin towers of ancient abbey said to house the head of John the Baptist brought during the crusades.
